Today at 10:00 AM U-34 the newest type 212 u-boat entered service in the german navy as part of the "100 years German Uboats" celebrations http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Submarine commanders of 14 nations were present at the ceremony. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

U-35 U-36 U-37 and U-38 are in production and will follow within the next years.

With the type 212, the german navy owns one of the most modern sea warfare units in the world aswell as the technological peak of conventional submarine technology.

They are perfectly capable to operate national or within the forces of the NATO alliance to do their part in multinational security.

Their duties are guarding of international seaways, reconaissance operations, intelligence gathering and transport of special forces.

Because of their unmatched stealth abilities the boats of the type 212 are capable to conduct their missions freely even within enemy controlled waters and gather vital intelligence even under the toughest circumstances.

Celeon999 Has not heard of the Royal Navy's latest design then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The HMS Astute I believe is currently under construction, and like all good British projects over time & budget! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

However, when she is (eventually) completed she will be the most advanced Nuclear submarine in the world ~ and the quitest!!

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif We can STILL do things right when we want to lol!

There is a box with glass front and little hammer in the control room. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

When the electronic gizmoes fail ,one can still break the glass and take pen and paper out of it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

This is one of the first images displaying the sonar systems, it still has the old conning tower that was exchanged with a fully hydrodynamic one to increase submerged performance and reduce noise. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

My God it's been more than 50 years and they haven't included the interior designers in the design team.

Just look at those pipes and cables. Somebody might strangle himself unwittingly on one of those cables. and knock off his head on one of those pipes...how about uncluttered interior? ever seen Star Trek? Been around for decades...

The pictures were taken during the testing phase. The cables do not hang like this anymore.

The pipes are intentionally not covered, this makes damage control and repair much easier and faster. Everything is easy accessible.

Thats a submarine and no cruise liner http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
