What the others said.

Or you can turn off the icons, that may help as well to get rid of those pesky arrows. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

If you dont know the answer dont post http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif...

I seen a server with custom Icons & somehow he had the red & blue arrows disabled yet had nice short Icons...

does someone have a real answer or am I just going to be bombarded by cockpit commies & there lame attempts at humor?

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gifYou really shouldn't get offended - people like to have fun you know.
A sense of humour should be compulsory at a public forum, or without one you're going to be offended a lot!

The answer is that you can't disable the arrows you refer to without also disabling icons.

"I seen a server with custom Icons & somehow he had the red & blue arrows disabled yet had nice short Icons..."
Perhaps you're memory fails you and there were also no icons.

Locust, can't you assign a key to "toggle icon types"? I am not sure if that will mess up the custom icons, but at least you can give it a try, since thaere are three different ways that the icons are enabled. Oh, yeah . . . I'm not going to judge you for the way that you personally like to play a GAME.

I think there is a way to set them in the Config file. I remember somebody walking me through through several months ago, but I can't remember for the life of me how they did it. I do know that there was a command like for the default FPS meter in FB. Sorry I can't be of more help. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Locust, type mp_dotrange DOT .1 in the console. I think the default is 14 and maybe setting it to zero will completely turn it off, but I've never tried. The DOT variable controls when the arrors whow up.

Just for reference, here is what I set on my server:

mp_dotrange FOE TYPE 1
mp_dotrange FOE RANGE 6
mp_dotrange FOE ID 1
mp_dotrange FOE NAME 1

In that case set DOT to 0.001 and thats as close to zero as the can will allow.

ie.

mp_dotrange DOT 0.0001

Hi Locust. I know the answer, but you aren't going to like it. I did a lot of experimentation to find a limited icons setting appropriate for Ghost Skies. I had to make a big compromise for Cockpit Off settings. ANd here is why:

The arrows are tied in with dot range. You can have no information at all diplayed on an enemy icon until you are on top of him, but if you have the dot range set to 15k, you will see an arrow at 15k. There is no way around it that I am aware of. With cockpit on, there are no arrows at all, of course. So the settngs are quite different.

With Cockpit Off I compromised with a 2.5k dot range for both enemy and friend. I really think you can see the dot farther, but it's real hard to tell just how far.

Anyway, the full instructions for set up and use are located under rule 3.8a in the Ghost Skies rules (http://www.ghostskies.com) but if you now how to do it, here are the settings for cockpit off.

@a gsocfr mp_dotrange FRIENDLY COLOR 2.5 DOT 5 RANGE 0.05 TYPE 0.05 ID 2.5 NAME 0.05
@a gsocfo mp_dotrange FOE COLOR 0.5 DOT 2.5 RANGE 0.05 TYPE 0.05 ID 0.5 NAME 0.05

Hi Crash....

Thx for the Info sad news to see that you cant disable the Red/Blue arrows...

What I was trying to do was set up Icons like there going to be In FS-II so that I might practice it here are the settings I came up with

@a fr mp_dotrange FRIENDLY COLOR 3.0 DOT .005 RANGE .005 TYPE .005 ID 3.0 NAME 3.0

@a fo mp_dotrange FOE COLOR 2.0 DOT .005 RANGE .005 TYPE .005 ID 2.0 NAME .005

I wanted to find a way to Illiminate the red/blue arrows for the new comp. and submit the idea to Clutch, guess thats not gona happen.

Thx to all who helped the others can kiss my rump http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I know they can be removed...at least on an on-line server because I was flying in one a few weeks ago but I can't remember whos server it was....

Actually it was kinda neat for those who don't like to fly with cockpits because, with enemy icons off or only at short range, it added the element of suprise to the game that is totally missing with those darn arrows. I actually snuck up on a couple of people and blasted them before they new I was there...he he

Don't know about off line though. I'd fly with cockpit if there was such a thing as high visibility cockpit...computers just can't model neck craning so cockpit on is too restrictive and cockpit off is too open...imho that is.

x__CRASH__x
02-09-2004, 09:34 PM
Well, I know you don't want to hear this, but the best way to fly with no enemy icons is to turn on the cockpit. That way you can leave the dot pitch to 15k. You can even utilize external padlock to find them at 5k (or is it 3k? I don't use it) in case you can't see them visually. External padlock doesn't need icons to tell friend from foe.
