Holy crap you guys are old! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Myself? I turned 19 a few months ago, and proud of it! LOL

Seriously, I found it intersesting that over 55% of the people that responded are over 30, considering the large amount of backwared replies and nonsense threads I have to wade through typically, with a contorted "What the f***..." look on my face! 24 and an history wart, but keep in mind i tango with IL-2 since 2001, when the forums were still on Bluebyte servers.

Actualy, the age in this forum means very little, its all about the mentality of the persons who post.
I've seen some of the older crew posting some real nasty uninformed crap and plenty of whining to go around, but overall, its them who behave more responsably and seriously towards the game.
The etarity range that gives this forum more problems are mostly concentrated on the 16-30 range.

To the older crew who wants serious discussion with little complaints, i sugest you give us a visit on CWOS.
We are gathering a wealthy number of individuals who can have a respectfull and educated discussion about the intrincacies of the game and related history, without the behaviours usualy seen in this place.

I'll be turning 40 this year. I can't believe it. Just seems like last week when I was turning 30. What they say about time flies when you get older is the truth. I'm already a grand pap. My oldest daughter is 26. Yea I started early. lol Actually, she is from my wifes' first marriage. My oldest is 20. Dam I feel old, but young at heart. lol S!

..almost 20..
I play this game since its appearance but have not touched it for 3/4 year until 2 weeks ago.
Must free up more time for it 'caus it was big fun (most of the times)
I follow the boards on occasional basis and i must say, it has matured (like myself, lol)

03-12-2004, 06:01 AM
49 year old body, 19 year old brain. The 30 + average age of this forum is very hard to believe considering the quaility and content of most posts.

Just turned 55 and loving every second I get to fly this sim. About 20 or so on the inside. This the ultimate toy I wanted all my life. I remember as a kid how crazy I was about my models of Corsairs, Hellcats, Mustangs and "Jap" Zeros. Now I get to explore a whole new world on the Eastern Front. There is an infinite amount of material for me to get into. Glad I'm still working because I see about $1K of upgrades on the horizon. Now, if I can teach the dog to walk himself....

03-12-2004, 06:34 AM
57 and learnen 2 fly - love this sim

It's only the old farts that can logon at work who are replying at the moment (in Europe at least). Wait until the teenies come home from school and then the average age will drop rapidly!

Anyway I'm 41.

(is there any correlation between age and the silliness of the handle?)

03-12-2004, 07:08 AM
Just turned 43 last Christmas, but still feel like I'm 20. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'll probably continue to play flight sims until I die.

For you youngsters out there, don't be surprised that so many of us are old farts. We're all just kids at heart. Besides those of us that lived through the age of the Neru and Leisure jackets probably always had an interest in history and flying military aircraft. We just didn't have the computers available at the time to do what you guys take for granted today. Jeez, the first computer I can remember was a Tandy with a 2Kb cassette tape drive. The closest thing to flight sims back then was the Avalon Hill board game "Luftwaffe". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hey EMitton, this is your thread, but you didn't tell us how old you are.

03-12-2004, 07:09 AM
50 in one month. LOL I know..I'm one of teh old geezers too. so all you kids out there (meaning under 40 ) take it easy on an old man next tiem you see me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Will be 35 in 2 months.

All I can say is I'm glad they didnt have these games when I was growing up or I would be a 100lb, pasty white, anemic, dateless, blind, unemployed 35 year old from staying indoors my whole life.

Sometimes I also wonder where especially the last 8 years went so fast... but then again, reading that most of you guys are nearly twice as old as I am, I rest assured about two things:

1.) There are still a lot of things to come http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

2.) Just because you're getting older doesn't mean you're no longer a funny flyin' cool-as-ice hotter-than-hell freak http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

I suppose it's the subject of another thread, but is there a correlation between a simmer's age and the "kind" of flying he/she prefers?

Do we 'old guys' prefer FR with externals off, or something less rigid? Online or offline? Jets or props? Full combat all the time, or sunset sightseeing?

Just wondering. The answers, of course, are in the forum; but who wants to do all that research?

There is no 'way' of winning;
There is only Winning!

39 years old, wow there's a lot of people here that age. My first "sim" was the "Battle of Britain" board game by Lou Zocci. It was published in 1969. Still got it somewhere.... Time to go hunting in the basement again!

03-12-2004, 09:18 AM
Blairgowerie , Brando and I will raise the average a bit...I was 75 last Jan and am still doin a bit of real life flying and too darn much on IL2. Was also a beta tester on Original IL2 with Oleg's help..:-)

03-12-2004, 10:07 AM
Congratulations jgur1. You are obviously enjoying life to the fullest. I used to do a lot of private flying myself but now my flying is confined to FB and Lomac. I fly on-line every Friday night with some real great guys from the Seattle area. We fly almost full real but permit external views so we can continue to watch the game after we join the angels.

My signature picture is that of my brother who was a Hurricane pilot and was killed in action in March 1942, age 21. As a matter of interest,I
have just sent off a cheque for 25 pounds to RAF records for a copy of his service record. I was fortunate to locate several letters he wrote in late 1941 which had his service number on them. RAF will provide service records to next of kin.

This poll brings up a question that I think is interesting. I have a hunch that WWII combat flight simulations are...here's the heresy...gonna slowly fade away. Look at the demographics - younger players aren't as into it AND as we move further away from WWII interest will likely lessen....or is this a new thread?

43 year old father of 8 married 23 years and no thats not a typo, I spend more time playing online than my 4 sons do. I think the reason you see more older ppl playing is three fold

1. we have the $ to buy the cool equipment.
2. our wives arent interested in sex that much anymore so we need to find something to fill our spare time.
3. we're too friggin old to find the chickies to date us and take our minds off the game

Is that the one in the folding pouch? Jackdaws...

I am 32 and I can't beleive it. It's like I blinked my eyes and what I can recall of my 20s was gone. On the plus side I had the same aches and pains I have now at 19, so I feel the same as I did when I was a teenager. I don't mind having broken so many bones, I just wish that more of them weren't mine.

Bruce Lee and Jimmy Clark, my heroes, both died at 32. I am currently very alert http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I feel like the old fart at 51. I have not gone on line yet. Am still struggling with Jg1 training program. Those guys have a lot of patience. I have left a trail of smoking craters from Eisenstadt to Kurstenwald! Hope I spelled it right.

I still have the folding pouch of the Jackdaw, No. 65 compiled by Basil Collier, I haven't got all of the parts anymore but it wasn't a game, more of an educational pack. According to the list inside there were 87 UK Jackdaws at the time, plus 17 Canadian ones. It was published in 1969.
