Would be some excitement to watch the Riot if they showed the Lexx loaded with Vals.

Actually no quite true ... did you notice the Pearl Harbour shots, they are managing to bomb WITHOUT flak. There's been much concern about having a Pearl harbour mission, because with 8 battleships the flak would make it a suicide mission, but in those shots theres NO flak. Has something been added to the full mission builder to turn off the flak ??? That would be a very good thing.

Could be ships before they are timed to start. Or they are Static Objects...I never use ships so I don't know.

Possibly they set the USA battleships to the same side as the simmer flying the Japanese plane so the ships won't fire AA.

EDIT -- ignore my earlier theory these are much more simple...

I don't know what could be more exciting than getting to sneak attack BBs at Pearl. However,it's a little strange seeing KGV-class British BBs, Soviet cruisers, and USS Indianapolis on battleship Row. I sure hope we get at least one Arizona or Oklahoma at Pearl!

They are managing to bomb WITHOUT Pennsylvania class BBs... plus Ford Island looks like it's made out of mottled gray cardboard.

Oct. isn't that far off... I, for one, wouldn't mind waiting a little longer to get Pacific Fighters as good as it can be.

The flak observation is a good piece of detective work. It'd be nice to see some text explaining the updates so such detective work wasn't required.

Static ships still shoot, and there are no timeouts on ships at all that prevent them from firing, so this seems like a good spot!

I see what the Skychimpy is saying... I'm tired of Lexx too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif....yawn.

But there is a lot of new stuff in this update and the French connection.... didja hear those Corsair engines in the vid?...didja see those A20's?...didja see the size of those maps?..

But I wouldn't mind a text update on what has been done to FMB if anything... or some other nugget of newness..

..and maybe they could divulge the LSO solution..?

But hey, they really don't have to give us updates at all so I feel a little uncomfortable asking for more....I cant even bring myself to complain about these screenies and stuff we are getting.. and - sorry to beat Mr.ED to death but it is a WIP.

We've heard at SimHQ that the ships have options now. Lower accuracy, standard accuracy, and high accuracy (sort of like rookie, average, and veteran pilots) for the gunners. Plus there is a timeout function so that ships can be "asleep" for a while.

So probably that Pearl Harbor mission could be setup so that each ship comes alive minutes into the battle and it can be staggered so some ships are already firing and others are still not. Would be quite a sight.

Those Corsair engine sounds are great... but the pessimist in me thinks they're well edited samples from outside the game just like the U2 song in the video. I hope I'm wrong because those are the best engines sounds I've heard in the IL2 series.

Regards, Goshikisen

p.s. now the pessimist in me is asking if they're P&W samples.

Actually those Corsairs in the French vid sound like Merlins to me. And the sound was dubbed in, it is not part of PF. Read the original thread about the video.

And I am starting to agree with SkyChimp here. With the exception of the Ki61 (an aircraft I could look at all day!) there is little to be excited about of late. And we will definitely need the USS Nevada to have any Pearl Harbor scenario be complete. Her sortie during the attack is one of the true heroic moments of the battle.

She would also be useful in the Atlantic...

Sorry heywooood. Not trying to be negative. I agree there are a lot of negative waves floating about. I hoped my bringing the USS Nevada into the discussion would be taken positively. It is one BB type that could cover the Atlantic and Pacific and it's WW1 vintage dreadnaught looks could let it stand in for many different country's BBs, if necessary.

Keep smiling...

I like the term "constructive criticism" better. If we're all "Rah Rah!!!" and shaking our pom poms about the game then the developers will never know what our likes and dislikes are. Isn't that a major reason for this forum's existance?

A fact... the Lexington has figured in almost every update so far to the exclusion of any other American carrier. Carriers are pivotal to this sim. You can be positive or negative about that... it is what it is.

The right objects for WWII do not make for any kind of accuracy if not in the right geographical and time reference. A King Geroge V Battleship in Pearl with what appear to be Italian (or French) crusiers having a torpedo dropped at them from 500 feet or higher or a pre-war Lexington with a deckload of F4U's being attacked by a kamikaze seem to be a bit jolting.

I dunno if those sounds are dubbed or not, I think they are, but I could be wrong... But that is how the corsair should sound. The corsair is one of the planes I'm looking forward too but I'm getting sick of seeing JUST the corsair as if it's all the US ever used throughout the pacific! Give us some wildcat shots, maybe a huge wildcat vs zero furball over midway or something!

I would certainly hope there is a great variety of "proper" vessels present. Not only do the planes make this sim, but the PTO was also about the SHIPS. Victory in the Pacific was determined by air supremacy, but you had to control the waters and that took ships (a.k.a. targets).

I agree with the ape. The updates are boring. How about seeing the pit of a Ki-43 or a Dauntless -uncommon stuff in other sims, or an Ohka leaving the belly of a Betty. How about some RAF/RAAF/RNZAF stuff, you know, Beaufighters, and so...

no worries..I'm a fan damnboy and everyone knows it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif...carry on please.
..but I will say to Fliger, perhaps the developers are trying to show their wide diversity of available models in as few screenies as possible thus giving us more info with fewer pictures. Hence the spread.
Maybe thats why an individual screenshot has so many histerical inconsistancies?

Yes the updates are becoming... well... you know not what they used to be.

I'd like to see troops being staffed on the beaches as they struggle to take up positions after landing, low level bombing runs on ground targets, that sort of thing, otherwise lets go back to the untextured but lovely models of the BOB updates.

How about some more screens of the new maps, that would be nice also.

Cheers,

Hmmm, I myself am pretty excited by the updates and very grateful for them. However, if they generally only cause dismay and yawning, I really think Ubi should stop giving us them. In that case they don't serve their purpose.

I remember back when flightsims just came out of the blue, no info whatsoever beforehand. I prefer it the way it is now, but I guess a lot of people get jaded because we "have it good"... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

If you guys were as critical about the flight modeling as you are about the eye candy, the Dev Team might really be onto something by now.

You reap what you sow. You want all sizzle and no steak, and you got it.

Not one of these posts talks about how the updates offer VERY little (to none) in the way of "we're doing this to ensure acurate flight modeling" and "we've added this and this to the damage modeling".

A little of THAT would get me excited about PF. But so far, it looks to be more of the same, only in a different theatre.

I agree. I'd like a few more letters and less pixels. How are things going and so. These are not development updates at all, if you realize that. But if they don't give enough data even in patches' 'readme' docs...
