Patrol 20, still no sign of a task force. No cruisers, battleships, or carriers. I've seriously harassed British cargo shipping and done two port raids, shot down about 3 Hurricanes, even killed a destroyer with my deck gun by shooting off his turrets (that was fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif ) but I've yet to see a task force.

SO... a few days ago I think I remember seeing a post that showed dates/times/places that task forces would be found. Or did I imagine this? Back then I was a rookie and didn't care so much, but now I wish someone could point me to that post. Please.

Thanks!

Aircraft patrols are suppose to dispatch taskforces to your location especially if your close enough. Ships do the same weather or not they are warships. Patience , they will come http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Don't feel so bad, I've seen nutting on 22 patrols over 3 years. A couple of DD's together, that's it.

I've seen or rather its better to say I was informed about the presence of a taskforce near me, only a week ago. I would like to inform you you that I play the game since its publication last March.
Unfortunately a thick fog cover everything. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif So I decided that it was too risky with all these DD's to search for them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Finding task forces is partly luck, but you also need to patrol the right spots. Patrolling the North Sea for example is not going to net much result.

Some of the best locations would be

-- North and west of Loch Ewe. Around grid AM36. You can catch TFs in here, but water is shallow.

-- trace a line from AM42 to BE61, then from BE 61 to CG19, then due south to CG43. Task force route roughly, they can be some distance west or east of the route. From CG43 they go on to Gibraltar, but I haven't determined if they continue south then cut east at a right angle, or if they take a diagonal course from that point.

-- Western approach to Gibraltar, and in the strait itself. First cruiser and battleship I sank were here. Grids CG95 and CG97.

-- Med. TFs travel west-east from Gibraltar to Malta or Alexandria. Try patrolling in CJ75, about 35km north of the grid marker. Be patient, they don't come though everyday. This is a good spot for cruiser TFs too. Also NW of Malta from grids CN22 to CN34. The Med is the best place for TFs because the waters are restricted.

-- TF's travel west from Scapa/Loch Ewe through AM33, but I do not know where they go from there.

-- Can catch TFs in AF77 returning from the north.

Those would be the areas I've encountered most TFs in. There are others, like AM02 for example. If I had to pick one spot it would be the CJ75 spot.

If you really want to find TFs you need to conduct submerged patrols, or at minumum do routine sound sweeps. Hydrophones increase your search range by 3x over clear conditions and 50x over heavy fog.

In some places there are no patrols, like CJ75 for example. So if you detect any warscrews at all, you can be certain it's a TF (at least until Nov '42 when it might be a convoy escort).

Patrol 20 PZ DH-33 (west of Casablanca)
Mid 1941

no action after 24 hrs...go down to Dakar for a short time and then come back to refuel in the Canaries ...no action whatsoever in all this time) ..then go up to CG-87 and go periscope, listen on hydros...just before dawn I pick up a warship moving fast, I set up for one possible shot if I'm lucky, when bingo!...it was just the lead Hunt 1 of a TF with 2 BBs (revenge and king geoV) plus 2 dido's and a southhamp. 8 warships in total.

I seem to recall in another career, a similar occurance (TF with BBs in it) but i dont remember what quadrant it was in. Also somewhere in the general quadrant vicinity (CG95/97 like DBond noted) Ive met a TF with the Bogue carrier in the middle.

They are out there, and like DBond says, a little bit of luck in a chance meeting helps, but hydros are definitely a key. Keep listening!

BTW I did wound the king geoV, pulled up alongside him to hide from the DDs that were pursuing me and in time got them. Then pulled away from the BB to finish it off. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif The rest of the cruisers, Revenge, and Hunt 1 had already taken off.

Have also met TF in AM36 with the Illustrious and other cruisers. This was around mid 1940
