Okay, real brief:

I finally got Pacific Fighters. I installed it as a merged install with IL2 and AEP. It finished, and now when I try to run it the game is telling me "Please insert correct CD-ROM".

I've tried the PF disc 2, no dice. PF disc 1 doesn't work either. I put the AEP disc in (which is the disc I usually play IL-2/AEP off of) - still doesn't work. Dammit.

I had a similar problem after installing IL-2 and trying to upgrade it to AEP. Wouldn't "find" the IL-2 folder, even though I'd accepted the defaults. I had to uninstall everything and re-install it.

So my question is... have any of you encountered similar **** like this? If so what did you do? And which disc should I have in the drive when I want to play PF?

I'm peeved because I bought all three games, I own all the discs, and STILL can't play the game yet.

Thanks in advance for the help.

There is a fix for this available on the Ubi website. I dont recall where exactly but its another rts.dll file that allows you to play the game without the discs.

Thank you, I'll go look for it.

Oh, and get this - after I try a few times to start the game, my disc drive will no longer OPEN. I have to reboot the computer.

If this is a side-effect of the "Starforce" thing I kept hearing about on the SH3 message boards, Ubisoft can kiss my ***.

Okay - I need more coffee now.

GRRRRRR...

Okay, I installed the following patches in what I read was the correct order:

pf_v303m
pf_v401m
pf_v402
pf_403
pf_v401m

The game still won't start (tells me to insert the 'correct' CD). At this point I found the rts.dll file mentioned above. Here was the one I used:

http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/end...Jz&p_li=&p_topview=1 (http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10061&p_created=1099077749&p_sid=aYTvIH2i&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29yd D0mcF9yb3dfY250PTUmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY 9JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfb mwmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1wYWNpZmljIGZpZ2h 0ZXJz&p_li=&p_topview=1)

I coped it into the two folders indicated, and the game STILL won't start up.

What am I doing wrong? Is this the correct rts.dll file? Was I supposed to put this file into those directories BEFORE I patched anything? (I would think not, since even after all the patches it didn't exist there)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If this is what you did then you f'ed it up.

NOTE that in your list the patches 402 and 403 lack an M.

Oh, and by the way, the word that just got censored was 'cr_ap'.

People are so uptight I want to fight them.

Is cr_ap better than what I thought it was?

Okay, I'm at the end of my rope. Someone rescue me or shoot me.

I just uninstalled PF/IL2/AEP (turns out you can't just uninstall just one). I then installed IL2, AEP, and PF . . . in that order.

Tried to start the game, got the same "Insert the correct CD Rom" message.

The rts.dll file I mentioned above is in the two different directories that Ubisoft's website tells me to put it, still no dice.

Finally, I patched myself fully and in the correct order (note the 403 and 404 patches don't have a 'v' in the name, but this was the exact patch sequence according to a thread above this one so I hope it doesn't matter):

pf_v303m
pf_v401m
pf_v402m
pf_403m
pf_404m

After the last patch I tried to start the game again. Same error. Here's a couple of screenshots of what the error looks like:

Try following the instructions on this page (http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10061&p_created=1099077749&p_sid=3_uGGxsh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29yd D0mcF9yb3dfY250PTQmcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1zZWFyY2hfbmw mcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9ODgmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDI9MTEyOCZwX2Nhd F9sdmwxPSZwX2NhdF9sdmwyPSZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=)

Thanks Tully, but I'm afraid that's the same file (and link) as I posted above:

http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/end...Jz&p_li=&p_topview=1

Tried it and it still doesn't work.

If you've installed that particular DLL that error message simply cannot come up. I would suggest that you make absolutely sure that you've replaced the RTS.dll file in exactly the way specified. What I see up there indicates to me that it has not been...

Have a look into it.

It may be your CD drive going bad.

Or try the nocd RTS.

Your are contantly mentioning IL2. Do you mean the Original IL2 or FB (Forgotten Battles)?

If it is the original, no wonder you are gettin nowhere. You need FB

Try this:

Open IL2 MAIN folder, look for the ILfb.exe.

Double click it.

I am just wondering if maybe you are trying to start the game from a shortcut on the desktop. If this is the original shortcut, it may not work anymore.

If the game starts, overwrite the shortcut on your desktop to the new one in the main folder.

Good Luck!

I just started playing again and had to reinstall Pacific Fighters. I had the same problem but remembered that I had saved the fix for the problem. Just add this file to your main folder. Guess I can't attach this file. It's an RTS.dll file. If you post your e-mail address or know of another way for me to send it to let me know. This is not the same file you down loaded.

The instructions for the rts.dll replacement is somewhat incomplete. Let me explain:

1. When you install "Forgotten Battles" it creates a game directory folder named Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles.

2. When you install "Ace Expansion Pack" the material from AEP also goes to the Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.

3. When you install Pacific Fighters as 'merged' option (FB+AEP+PF), the PF material similarly goes to the Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.

4. The directions at the Ubi Customer Solutions Center say: "To resolve this problem, please download the attached 'rts.dll' file and save it in the main Pacific Fighters folder (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Pacific Fighters) as well as the ubi.com folder (C:\Program Files\ubi.com)." -- This does not make any sense for 'merged' version!

5. UbiSoft\Pacific Fighters is the folder that is created by the standalone version of Pacific Fighters. If you had to create this folder as a place to put the downloaded rts.dll, then its really not doing anything for you.

6. Put the downloaded rts.dll into your Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles game folder instead. It will replace the existing rts.dll.
