Thanks for sharing these vid's.
But it made me think: shall I buy myself a P-51 for about a million dollars or the cheaper Texan? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

What memories! I flew my first solo and got my wings in a T6 in early 1952. A wonderful experience I still remember vividly. The T6s we flew, however, were nowhere as fancy as the one in the video...but still a blast to fly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Thanks so much for posting, DrHerb.

You have to love that these old planes are still flying. These are pictures and a video of BEAR from the AvHistory 1% team flying a T-6.

These pictures & the link to the video are posted on thier website.

I just watched Das Boot again last night for the first time in years - are the 'fighters/fighter-bombers' that attack the U-Boat in Gibraltar Straits scene and at the end AT-6 Harvards? They certainly look like them...

Its possible & the plane was equipped for the mision.

The T-6 flew combat missions in the Korean War listed as "mosquito missions" by the 6148th Tactical Control Squadron equipped with both bombs & rockets in addition to its twin Browning .30 cal machine guns.

It was also flown by the USAF in Viet Nam as a FAC. It carried twin Browning .50 cal pods and rocket pods or 250 lb bombs.

The RAF also used the Harvard in Kenya against the Mau Mau in the 1950s where they operated with bombs and machine guns.

Give me a few days and I might be able to get some T-6A Texan II videos. I start my training down in NAS Pensacola, FL.
