Well, ....It was the middle of June, 1941, ...and The Ruptured Duck found herself looking at the following orders:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/klcarroll/Riga1.jpg

For once, .....I, my number1, and Socko all agreed: .....A shuttle run to Brest sounded REALLY boring!

......So we looked around, ...decided that it was a beautiful summer day for a cruise, .....and headed East!

It was a peaceful, relaxing cruise on the surface; ....with plenty of shuffleboard and sunbathing for the crew: ....All due to the stalwart efforts of our Eastern Allies!!

We made excellent time, and found ourselves just outside the Gulf of Riga on the morning of the 22nd.

We had just received the radio message informing us of the situation between the Fatherland and "The Menace in the East" when we encountered this Russian DD:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/klcarroll/Riga2.jpg

After our initial meeting, he offered no resistance!

We arrived at Riga to find a peaceful scene:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q84/klcarroll/Riga3.jpg

No minefields, sub nets, or patrols! ....It was as though they thought that they were not at war!

The harbor was full, and we quickly torpedoed three Russian DDs and two tankers!

Things are so much easier when the other side doesn't know that they're at war yet!

(If you decide to check this out, ....DON'T BE LATE!! .....In a matter of hours, those simple-minded Luftwaffe Types show up; .....and they'll drop a bomb on anything that has a wet bottom!)

That reminds me, Our intrepid reporter R.J. Ambo should be back from his <STRIKE>therapy</STRIKE> vacation soon.

Knowing him, I suspect he'll be on the look out for exclusive interview scoops with some of the Kaleuns here.

Good post KL! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I've always felt that I've been missing something never encountering the Soviet Fleet....at some point, I need to sink a few (I've sunk ships of pretty every other nation already).

Excellent report KLC! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

I must follow-up on your tip-off the next time I'm patrolling the Baltic... I've never seen a Luftwaffe strike either, so it'd be worth it just for that!

Just don't be in the harbor proper when the Air Raid begins!! About a dozen Heinkels and JU-88s show up, and bombs are raining down EVERYWHERE!! (Precision doesn't seem to be stressed very highly in the Luftwaffe training.)

....And add to that, every Russian gun is in action to deal with the airborne menace; ....So no matter how tempting it is, DO NOT attempt to surface in order to "finish one off" with gunfire!

On a serious note: ...The whole thing is a bit strange! I have NEVER been given a mission in the Eastern Baltic: ...and yet there is an entire war scripted out over there, ...and apparently being fought by the AI routines without every involving us!!!

Has anyone reading this ever been given orders for Riga??

There's a lot going on there: ...but don't cut those Russian DDs and DEs any slack!!!
