In my "serious" career, its April 30, 1942. (Yeah! I finally got past 1941! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) We just got orders to patrol BA98. This is our 1st trip to the Americas. Kinda exciting for me. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think somebody blabbed. We made it to BE66 on May 6th & @ 16:54, we picked up a hydrophone contact bearing 150. Warship; closing fast. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

If he is alone, I have a nasty surprise for him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Hope you got some serious torpedoes waiting for him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

It was a V&W destroyer. I saved the torps & called the Luftwaffe to give those over-zealous Stuka pilots something to do. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif I want Goering on the phone NOW!!! Bunch of lazy @#$%! Where are they!?!? He's getting away!

05-21-2007, 08:03 AM

Oh well.... He never detected me. Not even when I tried to get him to. Thought I'd sink him myself rather than let him get away, but he was too fast & blind to boot. I surfaced, checked depth under keel & ran @ flank speed about 3000M behind him. Nothing. (Weather too rough to use guns to get his attention.) He just ran off at 27knots. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Ha! A destroyer RAN away from you! And you followed? Youw where asking for a depthcarge don the hatch!

Hmmmm "Check please!" I'm losing it.... what am I doing!?!? Trying to get a destroyer's attention! I've gone mad! *Hearing chanting whispers* "Socko! Socko! Socko!"

Mutiny! They'll throw me overboard! No, they'll just submerge & leave me standing on the conning tower. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
I don't blame them.

OK... You know you're addicted to SHIII when you sit half-asleep in front of your computer on your morning off, simultaneously playing the game & posting on the forum while trying to sip coffee to wake up & making suicidal decisions with your DiD career.

OK... The crew, convinced that I was under too much stress & possibly having a bad reaction to Harald's mushroom soup, persuaded me to take a rest in my bunk. After which all seems to have returned to normal. To everyone's relief, a complete search of the boat has failed to produce a Socko.

Well then how do you explan your first officer (Whos name is Otto Time) was found floating adrift by an american destroyer? Hmmm?
Check your drawyers and the bathroom. He likes to have a Whirlpool jaquzee on the sub hes on. If theres a sock in the toilet I reccomednd holding it in.

so, do you need to go through the english channel for that or do you go around scapa flow?

And how you call an airstrike?

05-23-2007, 10:21 AM
1) I'm currently based out of Lorient so its just a straight shot out. For those still @ Wilhelmshaven (etc.) going up & around Scapa Flow would take longer, but is somewhat safer.

2) Regarding airstrikes, if you spot a contact & you're not too far away from friendly territory, you can "Send Contact Report". However, in hindsight, there are probably a couple of reasons this didn't work for me in this case:

A) It was a single contact & it may have to be multiple contacts before this will work. I just recently noticed that I didn't have any record of my report being sent (other than in the hud). I've done this before with multiple contacts & there will be a record of the report being sent where your Received messages & Status reports are kept. If BdU receives your Contact report, they usually send a reply letting you know they got it.

B) Also in this case, I was about 900Km away from the nearest friendly port. Too far for Stukas to respond (hey, I was half-asleep when I made that post), but Fw200s should've made it there & back easily.

C) Plus there was the bad weather. Winds=15 + threatening thunderstorm. Maybe planes were sent & they didn't spot the VW. (??? It could happen.)

So my guess is that there have to be multiple contacts involved, obviously within aircraft range & in weather that wouldn't inhibit flying conditions before it will work.

P.S. A full search of the boat has failed to produce Otto too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
