Please for a variety of reasons dont use the direct link but go via the library page at

We can at least then keep track of the number of downloads for example. Always an interesting statistic

Just ran the first training mission, but had to stop and say how impressed I am with the voices. And the intro piece...gives me chills and dare I say, a bit of mist to the 'ole eyes. Well done! Now, if we only had some white cliffs to fly over, it would be complete "sigh". Gotta go and run some more missions!

Good to know that you guys are enjoying the hard work!

The ATC is actually South African, you can checkout the "readme" file found on the "...\samples\Speech\GB" folder.

The "menu music" theme is from my upcoming B.o.B IL2 movie that I am now able to work on and complete it soon.

Let me try to find out what is happening with Netwings and the download problem, maybe it's overloaded. Will keep you boys updated.

Downloaded it earlier and am already into my third mission. Great voices, I might add, but just a gentle query - I thought I'd play some of the voices first (impatient!)just to see what they were like, by opening the Speech folder.

Notably with Actor 2 (and a couple of others), there are a few items that won't play - the message comes up saying: 'because the file name was bad'. The rest are fine, though, so maybe a glitch somewhere?

Still it's great to flying for the RAF at last and this is a welcome additon. Thanks for the grand work you've done.
I must climb back into my cockpit and get on with the war now . . .

I have re-reviewed all the voice actor recordings and have not received an error. It could be that the instance you downloaded became corrupt. Try to re-download the pack and re-install when it becomes available again.

I gave it RAF markings, and two wingmen, against some 109s. I told the wingmen to "cover-me" and....they still had the British voices. Great stuff. Thanks yet again.

Really great stuff. One minor problem: if you fly a joint RAF-U.S. mission, the RAF speech files are almost twice as loud as the U.S. speech files. Sounds kinda odd.

Halo AKDavis,

True, I knew something like this would happen but I took the chance and set the volume to a standard just for RAF use, I was trying to get the same volume level but it differed between countries and they sounded to low (Maybe my hearing is going bad for listening to much AC/DC and Led Zep http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)!

www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) is up again, not sure what happend we could have been swamped but I would be suprised. Its not an overly large file and the volume of demand is nothing like when we had RC01/RC02 which not only swamped us but our complete provider network

There are a couple more in Actor 2's folder (and elsewhere) but I thought the one quote would be sufficient for you. Hope this helps.

I've edited this post three times but '***istance' still keeps coming up as ***istance for some reason. Obviously that isn't the wording seen on the error notification. Didn't want to confuse matters.

Secon edit: http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gifWhat the heck's going on? I still can't write the word correctly - in case you hadn't gathered, the word means help!! Surely this is political correctness gone mad if someone's editing out the first three letters of this quite harmless word?

I noticed that the file you referenced (and others) will not play using QuickTime, but plays fine with SB Wave Studio. Don't know what's going on, but the problem could be with the wav player.

Airhead_777_AVG is correct, I have tested by using Quicktime and get the same error that you report, maybe it does not accept the format. Try it with Windows Media Player or use the QMB in IL2:FB and add bombers to your escort against enemy to see if you get a problem, it should play without a problem.

this is just a terrific download & addition to FB - really & the radio chatter really brings the whole experience several notches..I didn't know what was missing in the past until I heard this background RT! Have done the first "real " mission against the Arado 196's what a hoot! Can't wait to get back!
I have only two questions: How do I get rid of Churchill introduction every mission( getting a bit tired of it even now) & again can I use this voice pack & background Rt for other nationalities? Thanks again...

Thank you.

Oh no, Thank YOU! Yeah, the BOB pack is great! I especially like the Winston Churchill introduction & Music - it's good enough to be used in the official BOB I think. I've always thought that Winston could put a lump in your throat just reading off the phone book. What else? I like the training missions, and I've played a few of the others as well. Your attention to detail is commendable!

If you ever make an addition to this, I'd suggest making a longer background tape, as it tends to repeat itself on longer missions. I'd also turn down the trebble slightly. But these are minor quibbles. This is a great addition to FB - and in my opinion, a must-have!

Hello Oso,

Thank you for the compliments, we all do appreciate it after all the dedication and hardwork invested in it.

In reality, the background Radio Chatter is only aprox. 20 minutes long because it was a last minute idea that was suggested to be added and seems to be liked by all here! My original project fot it was to be at least 1 hour long but my main concern was to complete the RAF voice pack since I have been working with it since September 2003. After some needed rest and the completion of some of my other projects, a.k.a IL2 movies, I will work on the background Radio chatter to be longer.

In regards to Winston Churchill's Intro...it is only a very short sample from my upcoming movie about B.o.B, I thought it deserved to be on the B.o.B IL2 add-on, Sir Winston Churchill was the spirit of the British during those very dark times and his voice indeed reflected it very well indeed.

...and for those who wish to turn it off, you can just disable music in IL2:FB options but this will in turn also shut off the background Radio Chatter.

Enjoy!

It might be nice to simply add some quiet times/mundane traffic to balance the dogfight noise that you have in there. Did I mention that I liked the riccochets?

And if your wife and/or loved ones are still speaking to you after this, I'd love to see what you could do with the new Spit V on the add-on! (Wow, I think I just heard you groan from here!) I think a sort of Johnnie Johnson/Fighter Pilot's Summer of hit & run raids would be fun.

Re: the last minute additions of W. Churchill et al.

Funny how some of those spontaneous last-minute additions can make or break a project.

Cheers!

ExtremeOne,

I downloaded this and want you to know that two missions in, I am having a blast. My old squad in CFS was based on the RAF 112th, and this is exactly what I was wanting as a distraction from all the yank stuff. The emphasis on the arrival of the pony has just about burnt me out. Congratulations on a campaign that rivals the pay for addons that are becoming available . . . for FREE. I was needing something just like this, and really appreciate all the work that certainly must have gone into this masterpiece.

Very nice, guys, many thanks for your hard work.

Now, if we could just get some decent voice actors (and scripts)in ANY language...none of these people ever have used a military radio and it shows. But that's not unique to the British version.

Again, nice work!

Now I know why EO ran the poll on number of planes "your PC can handle." There are skirmishes going on all over the sky in a 200-mile radius. Good fun! Only problem so far is the voice pack. I still have a british controller and yank mates. I've checked all the packs and voices individually. It looks like my GB actors just didn't show up for the initial rounds. Think I'll figure it out in a day or two.

In the meantime, the missions are realistic and well-done. Thanks again to the team.

Had a QUICK play last night as netwings wasn't up for ages and it was getting late but just wanted to say THANK YOU to all involved for giving my my RAF fix. It's great to have some 1939/1940 action in "real" planes after all the recent focus on soulless 1944-46 uber machines. And some historical focus! Brilliant!

Oh, second that thing above about a potential longer radio track having more quieter bits, it seemed as I took off in my Hurri trainer that Eagle Day had already begun!

If anyone needs another mirror, just shout. I have it uploaded but if Netwings is working then there's not much point in advertising the link. Download stats are always nice to see, eh?

I want to thank the developers for what was obviously a lot of dedication and hard work. The intro, music, and voice pack alone are outstanding. The immersion is wonderful. I'm a few missions in and they're very good indeed. Can't wait for when the action really hots up!

The location, as mentioned above, is very reminiscent of Southampton and as a Brit who lives in the heart of BoB country, this is a scenario that is close to the heart.

My humble abode is a stone's throw from Brooklands, (Vickers) also close to where Hawkers were located in Kingston on Thames. Not far away are Kenley, Croydon, Northolt, and Uxbridge.

Perhaps when BoB is released, I can fly over my house?

Once again, thanks again chaps, jolly good show!

I just wanted to send out a quick word of thanks for all the nice comments about the Hurri campaign. Nice to get such good feedback. I had a lot of fun building it and learned a bit more about BoB in the process. I also want to send a shout-out to Extreme_One for making this project so fun and surprisingly easy. I was curious to see how our collaboration would work out, and despite being on seperate continents and only having email to communicate, things went swell! We're already looking into another project....
Also shout-out to Capt_Farrel for his great sets of skins. Again it was a pleasure to work together!
I'm also glad that I'm able to give something back to the flight sim community. I've downloaded lots of great skins, missions etc..and was always amazed that people were doing(and continue to do) such great work and putting it out there to share with others.
Enjoy!

Question about the hurricane why does the engine suddenly die out on me. It happens all the time when I'm trying to shoot the G11 glider. My throttle isn't that high 80-90%, my oil temp is in the 70-85s, my fuel is a little below 3/4. I'm not jerking the stick up or down too much. What am I missing? Which other gauge do I need to check. Or is that a mission parameter that kills the engine if I don't head back to base after a few shots at the g11?

The Hurricane Mk I engine will cut out if you apply negative gee (i.e. push the nose towards the ground). It doesn't take much. The carburators of the time did not work (well) without normal gravity situations. This was rectified on the Hurricane Mk II. Try the I-153 - you'll find the same thing.

Allo all,

and a big round of applause to all concerned with the Battle Over Britain Campaign files. Thanks for all your monumental travails. The skins are a really good effort!

Just one question (and certainly not a gripe)

When I load the campaign, all my personalised keyboard settings revert to default. Is this par for the course, or is there some hopefully simple tweaking i can do to save my settings?

Cheers

Excellent work from all involved - well done. I almost fell off my chair when I heard the crash music for the first time.

One question though as there seems to be a bit of confusion around regarding DCG. I'm currently playing the campaign without DCG and it appears to work ok so what is the difference between playing with/without DCG?

Thanks again,

S.P. you've created a new pilot so the settings from the default.ini are used. You can open the settings.ini for an earlier pilot and copy them over the new pilot's settings. Probably a good idea to update the default.ini too. HTH.

I've never installed DCG - I don't need it to add anything to the single player RAF campaign, do I? It's just for creating new missions? Or am I missing something fundamental?

Ah, I can't recommend DCG enough, and it's so simple to install - IIRC, just select "auto generate" and start a campaign. I don't think it adds anything new to the RAF campaign, but here's what I've found:

- Missions usually have &gt;30 planes in the air (and aircraft density is easily configurable). As I'd never tweaked the default campaign generator I was probably averaging 16 planes before.
- primary objective achieved on mission start. So you can react to events as they occur, rather than thinking "will this jeopardise the mission?"
- optionally, pilot reset on death. If you die you continue the campaign, effectively with a fresh pilot. This is probably my favourite option http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

the soundpack is great, one thing i would have avoided though is the ricochet sound in some of the files, it makes it sound like a western movie [http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif] there are more appropriate weapon sounds i could provide u with if u r interested, but anyway the experiment is really great!

EDIT:
i was wrong, the ricochet sounds good ingame! Great job!

Just started flying with it. I loved the bit where one pilot says, "I`m going down." and you can hear his plane going into a death dive in the background of his comms!
I also like the classic British understating: "I could use a hand." When he`s being shot to pieces by the enemy!

So in a typically understated way I gotta say this is rather good stuff, Old Boy, the best yet.

The radio chatter is so cool. It's even fun to leave it on while playing online, just for a little added immersion (well, in RAF planes at least). It should be a standard feature of the game, with "background" radio chatter for each nationality that sounds as convincing as this does.

I have a sinking feeling that DCG has bolluxed up my FB..... Apparently it has done so to others, Siggi comes to mind. I can't seem to install either the newest version of Extreme_one's USAAF campaign, Nor this Battle of Britain campaign..

Here's what happens with BofB:

I can't get it installed.. Very weird... the self installer seems to be transferring files, etc...everything looks normal, but all I can find is a single GB folder within the Missions/campaign Folder.,,in there, there is a single folder called DCG, in which are a campaign.ini file, one *.mis file, one *.properties file, and on e info.properties file.

I can find NO new *.wav music/voice files... In my Speech files, in the GB folder, I have only American voices for all the actors...Actually, ACTOR4 is british..all the rest are American..

In FB, when i go to the new career screen, I see and select "United Kingdom", but the other windows are blank..no campaign options, no ranks, Nada, Nichevo, nothing...

I also see NO option for single mission GB/UK missions...

Seems something very odd is happening with the self-installer...Or my FB ...or something...

Anyone offer me any help?

Hello Wiley!

First of all, do you have IL2:FB installed on your C:\ drive or another drive (C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles)?

If another drive, please run the installer again and select the 'browse' button. Here you can select the ROOT of your IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles directory and click on "GO FOR IT!". It should install. If you get an error or it still does not work then please print screen a shot of your IL2 directory structure so I can see what could be the problem. Hope this helps!

MrFenna!

Good to know that it gives you that the menu soundtrack gives you that emotional response! It is a piece from my upcoming B.o.B IL2 movie that I am finally working on after the RAF voice pack project.

For all of those who still are unable to download this great add-on from either site:

I am trying to find out what is happening to the links. Will keep you guys posted. My take is that it is a very popular download and it is bringing down the servers that host them. At least on Netwings this particular package was downloaded over 640 times within the last 30 hours! This is not counting the other site that is hosted.

great pack
love the background 'chatter'
BTW how does that work.... does FB choose a music folder from the selection 0,1,2 at random or do they play in sequence??
the voices in the 'chatter' have some life and urgency in them.... whereas those for the speech section often sound as if they were recorded whilst sitting comfortably in an armchair at home...... 'break!' 'get out!' 'I'm on fire' etc would probably have a certain sense of panic in them........... unless the great British reserve and stiff upper lip gives one masterful control of ones emotions when in a crisis
I'm from Hampshire myself.........

Hello Fabianfred,

In regards to the background chatter, this was mostly a last minute addition to the RAF sound pack, some errors like the word "ROGER" (was not used during early 1940 RAF) should've been edited by me but it was very late indeed by the time I sent them out in order to be added to this B.o.B campaign.

In regards to your wingmen speech, that is more in the realistic side of things, believe it or not that is how it sounded if not more reserved than what you heard. Please read the "The historical background of the RAF voicepack.doc" that is found inside your :

\\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\samples\Speech\GB

It gives more info in regards to the research behind the voice pack, thanks to our friend Mike Green (Mickeyg007). I have hear genuine recording from British pilots during the air war and let me tell you, it is right up there with it!

Enjoy!

Hello all, I'm new to this board (and please forgive me my not-so-good English). I am really enjoying flying RAF campaign, I think it's great add-on to FB. Voices and background chatter adds a lot to the atmosphere. Nice work! I just finished the fourth mission in campaign. I managed to shot down one floatplane, then got some hits from rear gunner and with nearly empty fuel tank (as a result of leak) I landed on an island near coast. It was really immersive expirience.
But I have some questions regarding Hurricane Mk I. I like it, it has some character, but I don't think I'am getting most of it. Does a proper use of CEM significantly increase it's speed? I got a hard time just to catch up with floatplanes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif On what distance should I set gun convergence (I fly with default settings)? Are there any documents or topics already on the board about Hurricane (I searched, but found nothing special)?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Glad you enjoy the campaign. As to tips for flying the Hurricane relating to gun convergence, I read somewhere that some Hurri pilots during BoB set their gun convergence to 125 yards (about 125m) Try that! You will need to get pretty close to your target.

If you have a file of real RAF fighter traffic, I'd love to hear it! Maybe when the campaign downloads die down?

Also, I'm feeling inspired by your work. With that self extracting .exe file, one could put together mid and late war speech packs and change just by running the extractor. Interesting thought (at least to me). Again, thanks for your hard work - am having a ball.

Oh, Extreme_One, in the name of completeness I'll second that earlier report of the Hurricane Spawn/Landing Crash conflict in the convoy protection mission, before you head off to France.

Which, incidentally, is excellent. I am just reading Paul Richey's "Fighter Pilot" which is all about the Battle of France and bam, there it is in the campaign. And the correct squadrons, too, as mentioned in his book. Great stuff, very immersive!

Regarding earlier comments, I'm glad that Southampton in the campaign has so many offshore islands between it and the Isle of Wight. I've had to make two engine out emergency landings on said lumps of rock and grass so far. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For all the help getting some working links up

I will offcourse let you all know how I find this mod - although from the reactions so far I know it will be first rate

All I need now is a Spit!! Soon to come in the addon I think, I know its not the early marks but beggers can't be choosers - sorta reminds me of the BOB not being able to choose aircraft, I wonder whether the real Pilots on the Brit side actually thought the Hurri and Spit were as legendary as they have become for all of us who now have Hindsight.

We all know the Hurri was slow and outdated and the Spit had huge problems early on following the 109 in a dive. To think a Brit may have dreamed of flying a 109 ??

SpinSpinSugar

Tempestate, at the start of the war Hurricane pilots thought they had an awesome and much respected bit of kit. It was the fastest fighter in the world for a while. Certainly I've got a better appreciation of it recently - of course it looks a bit pedestrian when compared with the late war ubermachines in FB but in 1939 it more than held its own, as statistics show. I think the RAF pilots were more than happy with their aircraft!

I'd love a Spit though, I really would. The MkV we're getting is an ideal match for mid-war 109s. Hopefully we'll get the MkI for BoB and the MkIX for 190 fighting at a later date. FB is really looking like a golden investment at the moment.

I will have to make that purchase, when I was a kid I read "Fly for your LIFE by Larry Forrester". It was about Stanford Tuck as I recall.

I am just reading Paul Richey's "Fighter Pilot" which is all about the Battle of France and bam, there it is in the campaign. And the correct squadrons, too, as mentioned in his book. Great stuff, very immersive!" end quote

8 .303 MGs An interesting combination. I imagine roughly equivalent in shot weight to the 6 .50 in the Mustang.
Be interesting to shoot down Bombers with .303 bullets and see how effective they are in FB.

I notice the Hurricane was toned down a patch or two ago for being to Uber UFO, I wonder if the model is right now, we shall see once this download finishes.

I have been seen to bemoan how hard it is to kill things with the .303s that won the Battle of Britain in FB previously. However I'm getting a lot better with the Hurri now and can usually smoke two Ju88s or one Heinkel with a full ammo load in a MkI, whilst causing non-fatal damage to others.

I appreciate this still isn't very good compared to most on this Forum, but makes me think perhaps it's not so far from real life performance after all. It's certainly very satisfying, you always have to work for it.

I do also appreciate more the early warbirds of WW2. I haver more respect to the Hurricane as well as it's early rival 109 of it's period in time. The campaign does make one feel better at the end of each mission since it takes more skill to fly and push these birds than later era warbirds. I really had to push my Hurri to get to that German Bomber in the first mission in France! I almost destroyed my engine and stalled many times trying to do so. My S! to the Campaign makers! Great work!

I wonder why the designers have put German marks on the G-11 "target drone" in the early training mission? Would not such a target really be unmarked, or even have RAF markings?

Appart from that, and the colliding Hurricanes in the first shipping escort mission, the campaign is great! The RAF vice pack is brilliant, and well worth the waiting.

The RAF painted German markings on their targets, they even painted Blenheim Bombers up with German Crosses for mock intercepts over the English countryside in early 1939.

I;ve downloaded the RAF file again. I uninstalled FB and then reinstalled it. I've patched up with V.1.21 no problem. Using Winzip I then added the RAF campaign. I checked on C drive in FB folder and sure enough the RAF campaign is in there.
Now my only problem is that when I select pilot career there is NO SIGN of the RAF option. I wouldnt mind but when I uninstalled I lost the USA career option.

I am a bit thick so bear with me please. When I 'open' the rAF file I get four folders. 1 is the RAF roundell, 2is the read me( which I have), 3is DGEN and last is the voice pack.

When I try to 'open'the rAF roundell all I get is an NSIS error message, something about a corrupted installer anf if desperate try the /NRC command.

No idea what the heck that means.

Think you need a chat with Extreme_One there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

All I did to install this pack was to unzip RAF_Full.zip which contains about four files, one of which is an .exe, to a temp directory on my C:\drive. I then ran the .exe, which prompts you for a target location for the Forgotten Battles folder (if this is different from the default FB install folder). The .exe will then self extract a LOT of audio files, mission files, etc. into the correct places in the FB folder tree.

Then you can select "New" from the campaign screen and select the RAF option.

Hellos OSO,

You are correct, just like the word "ROGER" should have not been there either but as I wrote in the readme file for the RAF voice pack, the background radio chatter was a last minute addition to the RAF voice pack so much needed editing was not executed, eitherway it's more of an 'immersion' trick which seems to be loved by many here.

Yep, Its works brilliantly. One small addition (with respect to your already fantastic work) might be something along the lines of, "Number three attack. Number three attack - Go." *pauses for a bit* "Dammit! Change change! Comencing number one attack. Number one attack - Aagh!!"

Actually, after flying it a bit, I have softened my view on the radio transmissions.

They are quite good and certainly much better and more colorful than the American ones in that voicepack.

And, yes, from my RL experience, the Brits usually say "okay" instead of Roger and most of the time they say "okay" in the voicepack. Nice touch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hello all :

Adair_Smith - Let's see, maybe in the future it could be included.

tttiger - Good to know that you like the voice pack but let me clarify, I made the RAF voice pack and setup the 'background radio chatter', when you hear the call "ROGER" it is coming from the 'background radio chatter' and NOT the RAF voice pack. All of the actors in the RAF voice pack use the work "O.K." instead of "ROGER", I had overlooked the word "ROGER" in the 'background radio chatter' that was already recorded.

Vincent_The_Cat - Yes, it is the theme from the movie "The Last of the Mohicans", very good. The menu music is taken from my upcoming music for a B.o.B IL2 movie that I am currently working on.

Jensenpark - You are welcomed!

The following from http://www.worldwidewords.org

"We're so used to the internationally accepted "Alpha, Bravo,Charlie ... X-Ray, Yankee, Zulu" alphabet, dating from about 1955, that only the older among us remember that there were others that preceded it. In particular, the phonetic alphabets used by the US Navy and the Royal Air Force from about 1941 both used "Roger" as the standard abbreviation for the letter "R". Some at different times used the very similar "Robert", but we are most familiar with "Roger" because it was standard for a large part of the Second World War.

(A friend of mine many years ago had served in the RAF during the War - so long ago, he would say, that Pontius was a pilot. He once had to spell a word out to a telephone operator - this would have been about 1970 - and automatically used the "Able", "Baker", "Charlie" alphabet he had learnt in signals training. After he had finished, there was a little pause, then the operator said, very sweetly, "You *are* old-fashioned, aren't you, sir".)

The letter R, expanded to "Roger", was used to mean "message received". Since the operator was often acknowledging receipt of a message on which he would have to act in some way, the response came not only to mean that he had received it, but that he had understood it, a subtle but crucial extension. (If he wanted to say explicitly that he would carry out an instruction, he would add "wilco", short for "I will comply". Hence all these handle-bar moustached aviators in films like The Dam Busters shouting "Roger, Wilco!" into their handsets before peeling off to do some deed of
daring.)

This meaning for "Roger" became so stereotyped that it survived the shift to the international phonetic alphabet that almost everybody now uses, which instead has "Romeo" for "R". It's a good thing it only came in after the War: "Romeo, Wilco!" doesn't have the same ring ... "

and from http://www.columbia.edu/~fuat/cuarc/phonetic.html

"RAF Phoetic Alphabet 1924-42:

Ac Beer Charlie Don Edward Freddie George Harry Ink Johnnie
King London Monkey Nuts Orange Pip Queen Robert Sugar Toc
Uncle Vic William X-ray Yorker Zebra"

So this would have been the phonetic alphabet at the time of the Battle of Britain.

I assume that this is the origin of Ack-Ack =AA =Anti Aircraft gun.

some of the others in this forum are saying that the British more often said OK rather than ROGER

Maybe the movies are wrong?? I mean I agree that Roger is correct for the RATEL of the period but was it used in the RAF to indicate Recieved?? or was OK more commonly used.

Depends on the period.

This is basically covered in my first quote above, I think:

the phonetic alphabets used by the US Navy and the Royal Air Force from about 1941 both used "Roger" as the standard abbreviation for the letter "R".

Now I have the vaguest hunch that bomber command may have taken to the new official terminology rather more promptly than fighter command. The auxiliary fighter squadrons, for instance, had a certain independence of mind that I can imagine hanging on to the 'proper form' rather longer than they should have. Bomber Command on the other hand tended to do things more by the book (bigger teams, less room for individualism =&gt; greater respect for rules).

On the other hand, most of my reading on Fighter Command concentrates on the BoB, whereas my reading on Bomber Command concentrates on the big raids by the heavy bombers (later in the war). So my impression will be hopelessly biased.

Ok, so this is developing really well. Hats off (again) fellas, I'm appreciating new angles of Forgotten Battles through this. This is the first offline campaign I've really got into, and I'm enjoying that..

o Missions are historically accurate.

o Missions are realistic in their scope and enemy behaviour - it's nice to have to constantly claw your way up to altitude to engage, just like those chaps back in 1939/40. I'm still in France, and it's a blast.

o Flying without the speedbar is so much more immersive, I'm really enjoying that, previously 90% of my flying was VOW.

o Learning the Hurri in much greater depth is great, I've not paid enough attention to her previously.

o Hey, the instruments on the Hurri match those shown on the Grace Spitfire last night on "Spitfire Ace" (I'm thinking of the Altimeter and Airspeed Indicator, primarily), always nice to see a familiar sight on TV.

o It's the small things, but I love the way the plane kicks to the side when the engine is turned off on the ground after a long mission, thanks Oleg, that's just classy.

o The Hurricane is such a great plane to handle. Last night I had my engine fail and my aileron controls severed at altitude. Managed to bring the thing down on a friendly runway with just the rudder and elevators. That sort of thing is hugely satisfying as....

o I'm very aware of my "score" on the campaign given it's historical nature. Currently it's something like 7 missions, 6 kills, 1 aircraft lost to fire (mind you, I've only come across 109s once, so far).

o It's improving my gunnery! And to think I was worrying about those .303s, they certainly did a job back then...

o It's improving my formation flying!

o I am growing a handlebar moustache*.

Cheers!

Was their a mention of ROGER in his book?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

There was, but I can't find it right now. Johnson explained that the Brits originally used the cumbersome "Message Received and Understood" but that "Roger" was adopted after the Americans entered the war.

Another thing that I noticed is a lot of the air traffic was wingmen telling their leaders to "Keep turning." Here's a telling quote regarding dogfights: "Throughout it all the radio is never silent - shouts, oaths, exhortations and terse commands."

"Wing Leader" is listed in the readme file as one of the sources used for the script.

What an absolutely marvelous campaign ! Intelligent, diverse missions, some beautiful skins and that fabulous voice pack !

I must admit, I kind of drifted away from playing FB a few months ago but I saw this campaign mentioned on another site and had to check it out - I'm so glad I did.

Huge thanks and appreciation to everyone involved in the making of this addon http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Any chance of making the British speech pack available without having to download the entire campaign? I'm only asking since I'm really short on hard drive space at the moment, and I want to wait with the campaigning until after the add-on is released, but I still want...er...need...uhm...long for the British to come fly with me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

One thing....when, say, firing up the QMB for a quick knockabout...the British voice pack cuts in and overides the game's default voice pack. Mind you, I do like the BoB film crash music coming in when I've smacked into the ground. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

TO reiterate what I posted earlier, the BoB campaign is a wonderful piece of work... The first major comabt with 109's in the soupy conditions over the channel was tough, the poor visibility made orientation a nightmare. Excellent stuff.

Just encountered the 110's over the channel for the first time, and managed to down the high flying JU88.

If I had all the money I'd spent on drink..I'd spend it on drink!

Hello all,

Extreme_One has asked me to make available the RAF voice pack with some minor changes. At the moment I am taking a needed rest from the 4 month work schedule that I had with the current voice pack, soon after I will continue with the request.

A.K. Davis - Check out that same voice .WAV file which is found in ACTOR 1 and play it by itself to hear if it still sounds American, the file should be dated January 2004, if not then you still have the original file for that specific call for some reason or the other.

Odd - it's correct (British English) on my setup, which is a standard installation.

Just so's people don't get confused - one of the voices in the RAF pack is Canadian, which sounds American to my inexpert ears. And an American voice would not be unhistorical, as there were a few Americans flying with the RAF in the Battle of Britain (just ask Tom Cruise!)

I just finished the last mission of this campaign...I HIGHLY recommend it!!!! Lots of fun, challenges, surprises, and very Immersive briefings and missions!!! Also several very engaging/immersive videos thruout... And the final credits were done Very creatively and deserve some sort of award in and of themselves.

To ExtremeOne and Poymando, the creators: Well Done, Chaps!!! And Many Thanks!!! S!

P.S. Hate to say this, but I didn't enjoy flying the Hurricane....doubt if I'll do it again until/unless forced to do so in Oleg's 2005 Battle Over Britain Product. Bring on the Spit!!!

The Hurri is great. I'm with Extreme_One on the crap plane front, can't get enough of 1939. Back when men were men, planes were a challenge, blah be blah.

Obviously, being a Brit, I feel a due sense of History when I fly it but it's SUCH a stable gun platform if you get your convergence right you can walk your fire pretty much anywhere you want on an enemy. Killing aircrew with this beastie is the most efficient way to go, I've found. And you can eat 110s for breakfast.

Very much enjoying this campaign, I think it'll be a long time before I finish it though. Went back and started it again as a Squadron Leader so I could lead my AI as opposed to the other way round, currently seven kills for no losses.

Top class.

Last night I crach-landed my Hurricane on the beach at Dunqurke, engine shot to Hell and windscreen riddled with bullet holes. I didn't get a single Stuka, but I apparently still got a lift home with one of the boats.

This campaign is great!
