For those interested, the B17 2 game is going to be reborn again!

http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=12

It looks liek this babie is finally going to be tended to, just like SH2 is.. well i cannot think it can be as good as SH3 though, but still, the game-market seemes to listen to us fans!

Well, the gamecompany shockwave has bought the code from atari and is going to release an upcoming game B17 Flying Fortress "The Legend Returns".

See it as an B17 3 title!

And its very easy to register there, i strongly particular you do it Beery, as both AC and wayward design posts there, not to mention the devteam itself http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmmm. Sadly, AC's version of history is based mostly on a fantasy version of WW2. As long as he sticks to the workings of his Norden Bombsight, it's fine, but when he gets talking about aircraft losses and other statistics... well, let's just say that at that point we're not in Kansas anymore.

Im playing b17 at the moment, it rocks, but the crew are shocking, it seems to me they get injured just because you use the speed up time function lol... hope they iron that out!! Hope we dont get any of that dodgyness in this sub game!

B17 II was a very good game, marred only by it's lack of multiplayer. If they can put that in, spruce up the 3D models a bit, correct the flight models and refine the a/i B-17s, it'll be a winner.

well you forgot a couple of things

* the fighter allways crashing into the formation
* the bombers crashing into each other when making a turn
* many CTD,s
* AI issues
* and many mor

besides that it still holds potential

The AI avoidance was incredibly poor in B-17 II. I produced an unofficial mod that counteracted it to some extent (and which reduced aircraft losses to historical levels), but there was no way to solve these issues completely other than turning collisions off completely.

I spoke about AC before (he's the guy who was the technical advisor on B-17 II). AC was very hostile towards any mods. If he has anything to do with B-17 III it will make it very hard to solve AI and gameplay issues such as the above (if there are any). In my opinion, he and his cronies effectively killed off B-17 II before it had a chance to flourish, because of his arrogant attitude, his extreme politics (which one can't avoid if AC is around), and hostility towards the mod community.

Might be so, still i think he deserves the greatest of respect, flying superfortressess in the japan conflict during ww2. I personally takes hat of for that guy, it surely cannot be easy to keep up with gaming industry at his age, nor computers either.. Atleast that's what i have heard.

Or du you suggest he is fake?

I don't think he's a fake. As for respect, well that depends greatly on your point of view. I'm not even going to touch that one with a ten foot pole.

Swell.. still you would be needed for eventual mods for this game, i find it hard to belive you're gonna miss this one? I cant wait to counting missions alive on an multiplayer onlien envirenment, finally getting to join the lucky bastards club! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The only comptetitor would be sh3, revival of ww2, isnt this just the greatest?

And god, i am so awfully tired av all these ww2 games nowadays, action and rts based junk with no link to the reality nor history whatsoever..

I'm not going to miss it. I just don't want to get involved in any forum where wacky folks like AC and Snuffy Haddon are members. Life is too short.

If AC doesn't manage to screw the pooch for everyone else (like he managed to do for B-17 II) with his anti-mod shenanigans, then I'm sure I'll be involved in some way in making the simulation all it can be. AC may not like it, but if I play the game I will probably make mods for it, and if I make mods for it, then I'll offer them to the player community. There's nothing that AC can do about that, no matter how much he whines about it and tries to scare mod-makers with the threat of legal action (like he did in B-17 II - see http://www.bombs-away.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9133).

Ah! Good to see you here. I was at the point of despair over on the B-17 II forum when you came along and lifted my spirits a bit. Good to know that some folks see past the nonsense that has been going on over there.
