And do your actions (sinking enemy ships) effect the overall war as far as winning?

Thanks for not answering my question..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Anyway, I've yet to read (including in the link you provided) that the actions you take will effect the outcome or supply of the enemy ships regarding the overall war in the campaign.

For example: if I sink many supply transports will it effect that particular enemy's war supply?

Or if I sink a lot of enemy destroyers will I see less destroyers as the war progresses?

Or can my actions cause the war to end earlier than 1945?

So far I've only read that the campaign is Dynamic cause you have the freedom to go where you want and do what you want (to an extent) encountering somewhat random events (i.e. ships).

I haven't been interested in sub sims in the past but I'm intrigued by this one, and oh, I'm an IL2 regular (that would explain my post count yet SHIII newbie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

Well if you have to be spoon fed.....http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No you can not effect the out come of the war....no single ship could do that, thus it was not considered in the development of the game. I would be cool if there was a hypethical theater (not earth) where you could command and control U-boats to try to win a hypathecial war(and partake in the action yourself. But that has never been though up....of course there are always "What Ifs", (like if Germany had Me-262's two years earlier (might be a topic in Il-2 forums)), but too many factors to turn the tide for the battle of Atlantic (Advances in ASW, Code breaking, production of ships, too little too late (XXI)), early torpedo problems, lack of aircover in biscay.......it goes on and on

So does the Campaign always end in 1945 with a loss for the Germans, no matter what?

I know it's unrealistic to think a single sub could effect the outcome of the war, but I would think that sneaking in and sinking a lot of crucial supply/troop transport ships (in the channel), with a wolfpack under your command, just prior to the D-day landings, might have delayed the war a little longer.

For me having the unrealistic ability to effect/alter the ending or outcome of the war, even slightly, would add some real incentive to take some risks. Otherwise, I could go out to my assigned patrol area and sit out the war, on every mission, keeping my precious sub and crew healthy (albet missing some promotions and sub upgrades along the way).

WHAT?! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif So you mean that when I single-handedly stop the evacuation from Dunkirk, it won't effect the war? You've got to be kidding me...

Nah, I was planning deck gunning it. I figure there's only a few CLs and DDs standing between me and the evac fleet...no problemo http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

While I'm at it, I think I'll go take on the Hood as well...
