Sucks that you can't counter kill them anymore with any kind of weapon! You'll just end up getting hurt! if you want to counter them, you can do a counter steal then execute them right after! Or you can do a counter grab which knocks them out automatically!

long range weapons can counter long range weapons.

The Seekers haven't been good enemies since AC2. They don't flow well with the execution streaks.

Then again, I was never a fan of those execution streaks.

It's not an opinion shared by everybody, but I liked AC1's combat system the best - it seemed the most balanced to me, seeing as some were able to actually counter you.

(Yeah, I'm a huge AC1 fan, although I did start with AC2, I thought they removed some nice details in the sequels that I liked in AC1.)

Counter grab is super effective.

I've told everyone here a thousand times. Opinions vary. Some people like the easy combat. I certainly never minded it.

Counter kills with long weapons still work don't they, I'm sure I've seen the spear get broke and then me stab the dude in the face with it.
Counter grabs and projectiles work also. Personally I just dodge then attack and get the kill streak going.

They're not hard.

The problem is because long range weapons only counter once mostly because they get left in the victims body when faced with more than one spearman you have to counter multiple targets with the sweep move rather than the standard counter attack..

but long range weapons do counter long range weapons...

I did enjoy it somehow, but I hated fighting guys with spears when they decide to join a fight and they're the only ones there with a spear. It feels so weird. I like fighting guys with the spears when there's a huge group of them. It makes me feel like the trailer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And I do agree with phoenix. The combat in AC1 was the most difficult, even though it was still pretty easy. A challenge is nice. The part that made it best was that the guards could counter and when you were going in for a combo it felt so slick and smooth. It fit perfectly with how you fight. Hit* hit* hit* COMBO*.

Now it's like Hit* guard drops his weapon and leaves and opening* COMBO*. If you notice in AC1, the way they looked when they got hit is that they fell back as if they were helpless. You can actually break down their defense little by little. And you actually hit their sword and it made that cling sound. You hit a guys sword in AC2-ACR it makes the sound of cutting someone and at the same time a faint cling sound.

AC1 ftw http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif imo http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The fact that they had somewhat of a brain was the best part of it.

All of the guards were able to dodge your attack, and then some of them would even try to strike back immediately, which was pretty darn cool.

In addition, when they hit you, they didn't stop at one or two slashes, they went at least three, kidney shot you, and then some other dude would hit you.

There's a LOT of subtleties to AC1's combat system that a majority of people overlooked, because the counter-kill system pretty much covered it over. In fact, I literally just found out how to break through a guard using the step command just last week.

PLUS: If you don't kill a guard with a counter-kill, and downed them with just a simple slash from your sword or short blade, they writhed on the ground in pain, and you could finish them with the hidden blade. If that wasn't a subtle add, I don't know what is; shame that they took that out.

Yea! That's what I loved about that combat. A person doesn't die immediately after you slash them. It was sort of realistic and cool to just have a bunch of guards suffering on the ground crying for help lol. It was awesome.

I also did like how they were continuous. The guards hit you once now, 3 times at the most for a Janissary.

I think a lot of people hated the combat all because it was to slow. But I mean, because all the complaints about it being to slow, Ubisoft completely changed it. All they had to add was a kill streak, but instead they changed the whole AI.

Also, I hate some of the features they've added in the combat since ACB. For example, the kick. It looks above and beyond stupid and it's so corny and just straight out a dumb idea.

I liked AC1 combat, and the things you guys have talked about make me miss it a bit. Shame we can't have it all.

I too noticed the loss of assassinating a downed guard, in AC2 I think, that was a lot of fun, shame it's gone. I'd down them all then pick through the bodies and 'mercifully release' the survivors like a benevolent grim reaper come to collect his souls.....yeaaah...i miss it.
