View Full Version : A revamped SH3 would have been just fine

How hard would it have been for the dev team to have just remade SHIII with the latest graphics found in SH5 + the full length U-boat to walk around in and adjusted the ports? Isn't that what we were all hoping for anyways? Wasn't this done for other simulators in the past? I think I could name more than a few that were just repeats of the original but just had better graphics. SHIII was fine. The only thing wrong with it is the dated graphics. I wish UBI would just release an updated version of SHIII with the newer graphics really.

thorn0715, I would have gladly pay $50 for SHV if it was basically SHIII with a improved upon SHIV visuals thrown into the mix as well as the fully rendered U-boats.

I just dont see myself buying this garbage when then website lists you can only play in the Type VII-A through VII-C/42 but yet the example given on the dynamic campagin bit talks about 1939 (implies you can start in 1939) but last time I checked the Type II was used in 1939 and was quickly replaced by later types.

In the end I would have just been happy if they would have released a patch for SHIII to work on Vista/Windows 7.

RUSTY: The grey wolves team have done lots of work on SH3 to bring the game up by quite a large number of levels.

However, they had plans to work on a version four encorporating alot of changes, however with all of the stuff they were due to work on, it was established that it would be inclusive on SH5, so the team disbanded.

You can still download the Greywolves v3 mod/upgrade from the site or get in touch with one of the team. Im awaiting a message back on the SH3 forum how to do this - as soon as I know I will write back!

Nice im fixing to try out SHIII on Vista. I got it to install but the desktop image isnt a normal program image and right clicking on it results in the desktop freezing up for a moment but going to try it.

If the game works I have been thinking bout getting the grey wolves super mod since that is still active last time I checked from Subsim.

Thorn, aren't you the same guy who posted the "Sick of all the haters in here" thread? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

All the feck-ups with SH5 is finally beginning to get through that previously sanctimonious skin of yours now, eh?

RUSTY - the link below is to the silent hunter 3 forum, on where I've had a reply from one of the gwx teams - He has asked me to email him my details and they will send me all of the files on DVD - which is great the files total 1.4gb and to download each 200mg segment takes my connection around 90 minutes!!

True, I am sick of all the haters on here. I am frustrated with the game just the same as anybody else is. I just don't believe that smashing UBI for a buggy game is going to do anything to fix the problem. Actually, I know it won't fix a damn thing.

I am just thinking of ways that UBI could alleviate the problem. I am making a suggestion to UBI about how they could rectify the issue and make everyone love them again.

If they could just have the dev team update the graphics of SHIII to the level of SHV and allow SH5 buyers to exchange this game for that at no cost, we'd all be in sub heaven!

No harm no foul!

No excuses. You whined about us whining now you`re doing it yourself.

No point telling people not to complain then finding you don`t like it and complaining yourself. Unless you apologise.

I seethis all the time: The euphoria of a new game no matter how bad it is and you don`t want anyone criticising it or anything bad about it (like the DRM). then after 2 weeks your love affair wears off, you see the bugs and crap everyone saw before you and you have to come here and whine too.

Next time, hold back before leaping to the defence of a game before even really getting to know it.

The game isn't "buggy", its poorly designed. Big difference.

Revamp SH III?
We already have two.... SH III with GWX and Uboat missions for SH IV.
Even if Ubisoft paid their devs to revamp the original SH III, they would have mucked it up too.

Ubi definitely threw out the baby with the bathwater on this one.

The really sad part is that Silent Service II, really defined how a wwii subsim needs to work.

The original Silent Hunter was just a copy of this.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

True they probably would have screwed it up way more than SHV is to begin with. Only thing that I wished SHIV had would have been the option with the U-boat add on to fight in the atlantic or be transfered to the pacific. But why do that when SHIV is pacific based.

@ Rusty,
SH IV + UBM has a mod called Operation Monsun that will get your Type IX into the Atlantische.
It has to be better than the current pre-teen arcade version called V.
