Hi,

I recently bought the game, and now I would like to setup a dedicated server, but I just don't know how to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction of how to do this. TIA.

Also, what are the minimum spec´s for a dedicated server like this?

NB: I have the original IL-2 Sturmovik - Not the "Forgotten Battles" version (!)

The dedicated server is a free program supplied by UBI; it is just a special version of the flight simulator. You run it on a spare computer, and players connect to it using their normal version.

As far as I can remember there wasn't a dedicated server program available before Forgotten Battles version 1.11.
Below is a link to the original sturmovik updates page, and as you can see... no dedicated server program:

But so few people play the original now, that you won't need a dedicated server anyway! You'd have a hard time findng over eight people to play with.

BTW, if you wanted to pursue this game, don't think that you can just buy 'Forgotten battles' and be up-to-date. To play with most people these days, in addition to 'Forgotten Battles' you will also need 'Forgotten Battles: AEP' and 'Pacific Fighters' all merged into one installation. Maybe there is a gold version of 'Pacific Fighters' which includes FB and FB:AEP... I'm not sure.

Antifreeze is correct. The first dedicated server was for Forgotten Battles 1.11.Everytime a patch or new version of the game came out there was a corresponding dedicated server patch. The server patches are not cummulative so you need each one.Except that if you are going to run an up to date server you can start with version 2.04(instead of v 1.11) and go from there.

The dedicated server requires its own standalone machine. You can not fly from the server machine.Since the server runs in a dos box there is no video ,audio,or stick inputs to worry about. The server can use all its resources for running the game.People have run a small server with a PIII/800 and 512 megs of ram.Your upload speed is more important.
