'Saved by a Mistel', or "GEEZE! I'm glad I checked THAT!"

While on a long-range Mistel flight, I had elected to shut down my 190's engine to let the JU-88's do all the work. After all, there would be no need for my 190 to power itself any time soon, I might need it's engine's full power sooner or later, and the Ju's engines are gonna blow up anyway...Might as well get some good use from them...

Hearing a "THUD!" from a flak burst on target approach, I was suddenly glad I had kept my 190 cool...I was going to be pushing it...

I flew it as far into German lines as I could, on two engines and three and a half wings. When the plane began to smoke badly from the right wing, and both engines were sick, it was time to bail.

But...Geze I'm glad I checked that for damage before releaseing! http://server6.uploadit.org/files/FreeServ-Mis_2.jpg

that's pretty cool.

I've tried to get a Mistel to explode mid air but not had much luck - I'll have to try rockets. Must be a nice big bang!

Isn't it ironic that a flying bomb could actually save a life http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

Wow! Awesome shots... Must have been one excitig ride..

It's nice to have a spare aircraft bolted on in case something goes wrong, eh? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

LMAO, Yhea, it IS ironic that it saved a life!

And yes, it was one helluva ride! I decided to bail rather than risk it. I got a bad surprise prepping to try to glide it in...

'OK Hans...check gear down, tailwheel locked, flaps to landing...Wait...That only works the 190's flaps... HELL! I don't have flaps on the right side! Flaps up! Flaps up!'

That was when I bailed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I was wondering if the mistel would still fly if the FW lost a wing... Well I guess it does. Good story, thanks for posting!

I was flying UberDemon's Luft Nukes mission last week & got zapped 3 times by Mistels going off in mid-air. Ugly man, ugly.

I'd like to have that thing online... pretty much sucks that it's offline exclusively. The devs could have stuffed the time into other things http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

you can play it in coops, not in dogfights.

Well...lemme correct that...
In dogfights, you actually fly the JU-88 Mistel component! It's just like a normal "AI only" plane in a DF.
