View Full Version : Murmansk - an announcement

Although the Murmansk map has been ready some time, it has been decided to release it after Pacific Fighters, to be compatible with the PF-version of FB/AEP.

This is mainly due to technical reasons - two different (FB and FB/PF) versions would be too complex to patch in the future for Oleg's team (it's hard enough tracking changes now).

It does mean a delay, which is a pity, but on the plus side we get to use planes like the P-400, P-39D1, Boston bomber etc. in the Far North, which can only be good.

I will use the available time to polish the DGen/NGen side of things and to keep working on the next map.

A clue - the French will be happy.

Boston bomber? You mean the B-10? Why are we getting that instead of the torpedo bombers and dive bombers. I don't even know if the B-10 was used.

Boston was one of the names for the B-25.

No, the Douglas Boston was the A-20 (a.k.a. Havoc).

The Martin B-10 was in service from 1933 to the late thirties.

My guesses on the "French" thing :

Indochina map
Operation Anvil map
France 1940 campaign

Getting hot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif or cold http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif ?

Ian,
This is the first time I read about your Murmansk project. I am probably just slow..

Please tell us more about this. Will the map cover Northern Norway and/or Finland or just the Murmansk area? Is it mainly for convoy attacks? Is it an add-on made by/for Maddox?

Greateful for any info. I enjoy your missions a lot. Where can I find the free ones such as "Training fighters"?

Petter

Far as I'm aware, the Murmansk map is simply that, a map.

It is a map covering Murmansk (obviously) and apparently includes some of Northern Norway. Not entirely sure of the dimensions, but it will make for some very interesting scenarios!!

Great news Ian, but what exactly is the PF-version of FB/AEP? Sounds very interesting to me!

...Pacific Fighters will load onto your existing FB folder when you load Pacific Fighters. The way I understand, it will turn FB into PF, but PF will have all the elements of FB if loaded this way.

Pacific Fighters will also be a stand-alone product that doesn't need FB to run, but doesn't come with FB's content.

Herdla will certainly not be included. It's about 1500 km away from the Murmansk region. The map should be something like 300x300 km large. According to what Ian Boys told earlier it will include only a small part of northern Norway.

U-405
Engaged in a death duel with an American destroyer, each vessel sinking the other in a battle later fictionalized in the novel and film The Enemy Below.

Type: VII C
Built: Danziger Werft, Danzig
Keel laid: 8 July 1940
Launched: 4 June 1941
Commissioned: 17 September 1941
Commander: KK Rolf-Heinrich Hopmann
Fate: Sank after the destroyer USS Borie depth-charged, rammed, and struck her by gunfire north of the Azores, 1 November 1943. Following ramming, both warships remained temporarily locked together, and some fighting took place at close quarters before the U-boat broke away and sank with all 49 hands. USS Borie succumbed the next day from damage suffered, with the loss of 27 officers and seamen.
