OK, after a long break from flying, I am returning http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I am currently downloading the new patches, and need some guidance and confirmation on some things.

To play in widescreen, I found this on another forum...

Edit the conf.ini file in the game's root dir.

[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=1
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

[Change, width=/height=, to whatever resolution preferred]

Does that work?

Also I have a major beefy graphics card (X1900XT) how do I get absolutely the best water available with the new patches?

Set your water settings to 2, that should give you the correct shaders for an ATI card.

As for the screen resolution, I have no idea.

Well widescreen is sorted, but whats with the water, with water at 2, its dropping me to 30fps on okinawa, although only (bizarrely) when I look at the mainland, looking over water only it is over 60fps constant.

If you mean the quick mission map for Okinawa, it's very detailed with ground objects, so this might account for the drop in frames.
