View Full Version : Pilots heads panning around

Something that I have been thinking of for a while. What would it take to actually have the pilot turn his head while you are panning your view around. I have a TrackIR3 and would love to have my virtual pilots head "look" around when I am looking around. If I turn my head to the right to look at my wingman over my right wing I would like for him to see me looking at him. This would be so great especially in online play. It would also be neat to see this in a track replay to actually see where you were looking while you were flying around. Is this something that can be done? I thought that I had seen the pilot move his head around from time to time but seemed completely random and not connected in any way with the direction you were actually looking in at the time.

The pilot actually moves his head when in auto- pilot mode.
Yes I think it would have been great if the external view head movement could be linked to the internal view panning.
I have sent an e-mail to 1C about this and some other pilot matters as well but I haven't got an answer yet.(Not that I'm realy expecting one).

I would love this too. (I don't think that it would decrease the fps because AI-pilots already do it).

Imagine formation-flights (maybe most interessting for aerobatic-teams). It would be great to see how your buddy ist tracking you - or checking his 6...

i agree with you
i'm upping this post to ask a simple thing
is it really hard to implement or it need just a bit?
why this featuring was not implemented ?

pls dont' say "you'll have it in bob" i'd really love it in il2 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
if this isn't possible i'd like to know why i it's possible... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EDIT:
and i'm not the only one as i can see by searching in this forum... so why you(Mr.Oleg) don't like this?

Very good idea, I agree. It's already done in the new Armed Assault combat sim. Also, I've read that in Rainbow Six : Vegas, you can give your avatar your own face (if you are handsome enough), using a webcam to take the picture, or I don't know what. Wouldn't it be fun for the online players ?

OT, but since I'm talking about other games : has anyone here ever played Full Spectrum Warrior : Ten Hammers ? In that game, there is a brilliant way to hop (?) from one mate of your team to another one you can choose : the camera litteraly cross the space between them (if not too far), showing their relative positions. I guess it would be great when reviewing the recorded tracks of Bob.

I want a set of keys so that I can flip people off (and other more useful gestures) when I fly up along side them.

what that concern with that thread?
we'r talking about something that in (i.e.) Lock On is possible and is AWESOME!!!
so why not?
i'd like at least to know WHY ^^

*shrug* I guess the devs were busy with other things. I can't imagine its terribly difficult to implement, but all things take time..

IIRC, Lock On does this already. If you look around with TIR and then switch to an outside view, you pilot is looking the same way. Not sure if it works in multiplayer though. And probably somewhat unnecessary given combat distances with jets.

what that concern with that thread?

I was serious.

During the war hand gestures were used (commonly) to enable radio silence. Also I like to flip people off. Especially when driving. (Ok, that part I am kidding about).

That's a great relief because I have this memory of flying along side another plane and the pilot looked straight over at me. Since then it's never happened again.... and I thought it might of been a fit of beer inspired delerium.

But things are getting worse - I wake up in the middle of the night screaming "my legs have gone" "they've dissapeared" "where are my legs"

Whatever you do when yr flying.... don't look down...

oh understood http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
that will be a real simulation but it is really hard to do
head movement is already possible for AI's pilots
so there is a possible way
yes in lock on you can move your head in mp too
and this is really a beautyful thing to see from outside http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It works in multiplayer in LOMAC. We fly it a lot and it really adds to the immersion

I agree completely, 100%, even Lock On has this option.

When you fly in formation with other gamers should be nice to see where they are looking.

About the framerate will not be affected because the game has this capability when auto pilot or AI airplanes.

All these are great but unfortunatelly nothing of the above is going to be realised in this game.(Oleg himself told me so, when I adressed him some mistakes on the pilot 3d model).
Cross your fingers for the new SoW series...

in lockon we got just that and it is a total trip when flying in formation, when we seat on the runway well be all looking at eachother,
as the canopies start to close.

then in the air you can see the mates heads moving around checking for distances and position

Man, I started this thread a while back... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Would have been great to see it in Il2. They had plenty of time to implement this back when I started this thread. Oh well. I really can't wait for BoB although I am getting a little tired of saying that. Maybe if I go into a deep sleep till next winter.........

I would like to have the chance to "duck" when doing a head-on or some other stupid/hazardous thing. Why hot, pilots did that a lot. Put their heads between their shoulders and hoped for the best http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Another fine example of "morephanism." I want, I want, I want. I wish I lived in the pre 1960s era.

I've always wondered about this, and think it'd be a great little detail to this sim. There are other nice details, such as the men running away from a convoy as you're about to strafe.
