Hello All,

Ive been playing IL2 for a few days now and im really having problems shooting down planes, I have shot at the wings, engines, you name it and I see debris coming off the plane but no matter how much fire I put into them they never go down infact it seems there not even taking damage... can someone tell me whats up with this... I have a screenshot below, you can see a trail of debris for a mile, I kept shooting tell I was about to hit the plane then paused the game and took a screenshot to show the plane is undamaged... Im running IL2 FB with v1.22 Patch.

Those SB's aren't supposed to be so tough http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.
But on the other hand MG151 is not so tough weapon in FB 1.22 as it is in FB 4.02. In 402 they really have hitting power.

Mate try with other weapons and see if you can deal damage with them (test it).

Why the heck are you attacking from dead six?

Do yourself a humongous favor. If you haven't already get http://image.compusa.com/prodimages/36/cbcb7e68-c1cb-42b6-9718-427e5e43c279.gif The Aces Expansion Pack (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=311092&pfp=SEARCH) and http://image.compusa.com/prodimages/32/f4a6c6df-f039-42dc-babe-0d5ffec73fa7.gif Pacific Fighters (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=316460&pfp=srch1) first off.... Dont say to yourself Im not really interested in the PTO.. etc etc etc.... Consider this sim as one 5 CD multifront WW2 flight sim and you will be better off in the long run... believe me. Once you get the other two.... uninstall FB... then re-install FB>AEP>PF> (Make sure you select the merged install on PF) then patch 3.03m>4.01m>4.02m.... then try it again.

You can also go into your config file and sesect Arcade Mode... which will give you trajectory arrows shoing you exactly where your shots are going.... record a track and play it back... very informative.

Number of posts: 2. I suppose then I have to advertise my Aircraft Reference Guide (again, I know http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif).

Search your FB main folder on your hard disc and open conf.ini with notepad. Change Arcade from 0 to 1 (Arcade=1).

Launch the game and make a quick mission. Select your plane of choise and targets as friendlies, as they will not shoot back. Don't put any enemies there, as this is only for practise. SB's are just fine.

Now as you shoot, try to aim at the motors of the bomber. With arcade=1 you can easily see where you're hitting (big arrows). Try to shoot from different distances and try different convergence settings for your guns. You should be able to set the motors smoking and on fire even with light machine guns.
When you have practised enough, try a head-on with a bomber. Try to shoot at the cockpit.

After that you can try different approaching angles. High speed dive from above with your guns ablazing is quite satisfactory, when you manage to saw the bombers wings off http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's actually also the most effective way of destroying bombers, because their gunners have hard time following you, and your shots have bigger areas to land on.

Welcome aboard and good luck!

Or, if you can't take the anguished cries of your comrades over the radio as you hose them down, set the Ammunition Load Out to Empty from Default on the enemy aircraft.

Or turn the voice down a bit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The enemies tend to do more evasive manouvres than friendlies, so friendlies might offer a more solid target drone.

And one other thing for the original poster: try to hop into the real cockpit view as soon as possible and also turn the difficulty settings up. For example realistic gunnery is almost a must from straight from the beginning, if you want to get a real feeling of the "simulator".

Thanks for the reply guys,

Forgive my rookieness but its been a while since I played some WW2 flight sims, Figer Ace was the last one I remember playing. I did some further testing doing single missions and found out it is possible to down enemys. I was useing the 1944 year version of the 109 and it seems to be more effective since I downed 5 planes. I guess when you first start the campaign the weapons in the first 109 arnt that great?

As for the other games, I own IL2, IL2 FB, IL2 Ace Expansion, but I don't have Pacific Fighters yet. I didn't know that all the games could be merged as one, I thought Pacific Fighters was a game on its own. If Pacific Fighters adds new dynamics and firepower to FB then ill pick it up and give it a try.

Practically everyone has a merged installation.

For weapons info look at the guide I suggested above. I'm pretty sure though it's not the guns but you who got better. (or maybe you fired with the cannon at last http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

You should either get Pacific Fighters on budget or wait for the DVD (not sure when its coming out tho) with all 3 on.

Then come and join us online! You will never look back and will have the discovered one of the best games ever made!

Offline is nowhere near the fun of online battles. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's a matter of practicing your gunnery and getting rounds on target where it counts, especially with 109F's. The 109F's do not have an over-impressive array of hitting power with 2 x 7.9mm MG and 1 x 20mm Autocannon.

This is what an on-target burst can do from an FW-190D9 with 2x20mm AC and 2x13mm MG's:

I just uninstalled FB and im about to re-install, should I patch FB before I install Ace Expansion? or just install ace right over vanilla FB? after I have FB and ace on is there a patch for both I can use until I get PF?

Thanks,
Wolfy

I believe AEP will have all the patches for FB. After you get PF and do a merged install, then download the patches for PF and install in the correct order.

Make sure you use the "m" version of the patches http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif; those are for the merged install...

FB box version
AEP box version
PF box version
PF merged patches (there's an "m" in the file name that's not in the standalone patch versions, also check the file sizes against those listed in the patch thread at the top of the forum). You'll need 3.03m, 4.01m and 4.02m.

I think he is flying an F2? That has a 15MM, not a 20MM. Not very powerfull, so you need to hit the engines. The tail has NOTHING to offer in the way of a kill unless your firing explosive rounds or LOTS of MG rounds. Go for the pilots or engines with the F2. Even the 20MM on the F4 and later suck till PF 4.01 since they were not modeled with the proper explosive ammo.

Kuna15

Yes various part of the aircraft can be adamaged control cables snap-off, various parts shot off the aircraft etc. Sometimes I can't lower landing gear due to battle damage http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Damage model (DM) is very detailed.

Of 4 engines; there are TB-3, PE-8, B17, B24, B29...
