Last Sunday I went to a 'Titanic Artifacts' showing. At first I was excited about going to the exhibit.

Some of the individual exhibits were mock ups some just period pieces.

Then there were the actual parts of the ship and personal possessions that were brought up from the sea bottom. A shoe, spectacles and such. Then I understood for a moment why they should never have been brought up or at least put on public display for money.

On another note, there is the disctict possibiltiy that if the Titanic had hit the iceberg bow on instead of trying to turn there would not have been that terrible gash and crushed plates under the water line. The Bow would have been crushed in and people killed and many injured but not 1500 of them, and the ship could have survived.

As it happens, I work for an advertising agency. One of my buddies deals with the local media (tv & radio stations) representatives. He got a call from one of the reps, with what was obviously the best idea the rep had ever had, or ever would have. This guy was involved with the Titanic Exhibit, and he wanted my buddy's client to do a corporate sponsorship deal. For their line of heavy trucks, the Nissan Titan. "Yeah, Titan - Titanic, it's perfect !"

I about pi$$ed myself laughing. MY buddy said he'd shot the idea down politely, but we were both flabbergasted at the sheer cluelessness of that guy. The laaaaaast thing you want associated with your brand is something widely perceived as an engineering failure; a disappointment at best. What ARE they teaching in schools these days ?

But take it as a good sign that some of the.. idiocy surrounding that morbid exhibit (the personal possessions shouldn't be on display) was shot down.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
