Should be about the same, I'd go with the cheaper option.

Gives you more room to upgrade later on.

The same or possibly even better. With the original DDR, a number of motherboards could only run at DDR400 if you had 2 sticks in the board. If you stuck 4 in, it would slow down to DDR333 speeds. Check the manual on the motherboard. If going with 4x512 would slow it down to DDR2-533, you definitely don't want it.
