Hi everyone,

During a recent patrol I stumbled across a small tug boat. Now, normally I'd just ignore these as not worth any effort whatsoever, but I'd had a bad day at the office and, as the in-game weather was nice, thought I'd vent a little bit of frustration by blowing it out of the water with my deck gun. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

90 odd shells and a bit of flak later, the thing was still afloat and quite happily going about its business, despite having various bits bits blown off. I'd also hit below the waterline with loads of shots (flames, water splashes etc)

Is this some kind of fiendish new armour the Allies have developed? Perhaps my crew loaded sausages into the gun in error(an easy mistake to make no doubt, considering their similar-ish shape to shells)? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Is this normal (the non-sinking of ships with deck guns, not the sausage loading issue) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm currently running the first Grey Wolves Mod, haven't got enough power for GWX http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I remember that 12 torpedoes C-2 i once encountered http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Needless to mention that it did NOT sunk after i punched my last 12 fish into it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

So.....
After six months of starvation and two (2) ill fated attempts to develop a taste for SH lV, I decided to go AND stay Kriegsmarine.
Last time I played NYGM, therefore GWX is this years choice.

Messervy better prepares himself for frustration of this sort. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I can't run GWX on my machine. And now I can laugh like a madman and have revenge on those tugs with the 20mm guns, seeing that my fellow kaleuns let them go due to their unsinkability. Guess that's one benefit of stock game over GWX http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Ahhh the invincible ships. One time it took 9 fish and 30 shells from my gun to sink a costal merchant. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Thats fixed in GWX http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

One thing to keep in mind is that the damage model in GWX is much more realistic than in stock.
The ammo and time required to sink any particular ship depends not only on where the target is hit (and with what) but also on the ship's cargo.
A tanker could contain high octane aviation fuel, or something lower grade and less explosive .... or just water ballast. Cargo ships may carry ammunition, vehicles, or food for the blockaded British people.
Otto Kretschmer once expended an unusual amount (unusual for Otto) of torpedoes and shells sinking a ship filled with a cargo of cork!
Compartments in GWX will flood at realistic time rates as well, depending on where the damage occurs and (presumably) whether or not watertight doors in the bulkheads are open or closed.
Some of my victims in GWX have taken hours to sink, while others have sunk in half a minute.
All in all, quite in line with WW2 reality.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I gave up on the tug boat in the end and let it go on its merry way. At least its crew will have something exciting to tell their grand children!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
