I have only just found the mission with the mistel after all these years, usually i just forgot about it and i've only just got my rig to work properly. Can someone tell me how you aim the thing, it shows on the map the bomb zone and then the target but what height what speed?? to get it direct onto the bridge. I tried diving with it but then when i release i hit it and when i pull up it stalls so i just blow up, there's got to be a way??

The readme for AEP gives you the advice on how to aim the Mistel.

I haven't ever got it accurate myself, but the theory is sound.

Climb to 1000-1500m. When you approach the target zone, enter a shallow dive so that your gunsight is fixed over, or slightly before, the target. Reduce throttle to 30% (wait until your RPMs and speed drops), and then release. The Mistel *should* stay on target until it hits, but in practise it's a lot more fickle than that.

I guess it just needs lots of practise, or some such thing.

I have achieved best results if I let it glide on in the last moment.
I'm slowly diving on target and when I'm close enough I shut down the Ju-88 engines and release it after I have aimed it on target. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If I remember rightly point it at your target and glide/dive. Release, and get well away from it before it explodes...or you will too, it's highly explosive.

Gezz, the Mistel .... hadn't thought of her in long while! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Thanks much Kuna! I had gotten good at getting close to the target in the past but never thought to cut the engines. Works real good!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

No problem. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I didn't really tested it in 401 it may not work good as before. But in 304 (when I played a lot with Mistel combo) I could aim fairly easy with it. I would shut engines down some time before reaching target but that wasn't possible due to fact that I can not hold same altitude with just FW-190 engine running.

You have to use attach/detach aircraft key ( user defined) or you blow up.

A very cool, fun set of missions. I think I'll go run a couple myself it's been so long.

That's not the problem. I tried a few missions after seeing the original post and he's right about collision & blowing up immediately as the Mistel is detached. It has been a while since I flew the Mistel mission but I do remember that this was not a problem for me in the past.

So far, the only way I've done a successfull separation is to apply combat flaps to the FW-190 just prior to detaching so that it lifts away.
