Hello all.

I've been away from the IL2 series for a while now. This evening I decided to see how the sim was doing and found a lot has changed.

Could you guys give me a quick run down as to what is going on? Especially with the mods. Last I was around, mods weren't even possible. I assume there are some real gems amongs a lot of questionable stuff.(like MS CFS) Am I right?

Thanks!

Actually, most of the mods, especially the ones from AAA are very well done and even if there's some one doesn't like one can see they were well intentioned or at least not like the CFS stuff.

Mods=Classified

We are all [most of us] playing IL2 1946 with a 4.08 or 4.09 patch.

I don't use any mods yet but you might want to read this post regarding mods and their discussion by Bearcat. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am sure more will be added to the subject by others but this is all I can offer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Thanks for the info guys. I'm glad to see the IL2 community has held on to it's dignity and not gone to pieces. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Speaking of the IL2 community, what is the average amount of members at ounce on the IL2 forums?

dignity ? when did it ever have dignity ???

But yeah ... basically the standard install is IL2 1946 (if you are buying a DVD the US version is the best because it doesn't have the evil securom root kit thingy)

The default for online play is patched up to the release version of patch 4.08.

Offline most people go for 4.09b beta because of stuff like the Slovakia map (awesome map for screenshots). The beta is pretty stable with the only known issue being sound dll's on very old AMD Athlon processors.

One significant change is online cheating is now possible.

As for mods ... well the mods are the mods ... and yes with all the advantages and disadanatages of CFS/MSFS but it seems like there is a fair bit more community responsibility so not quite so stupid, no x-wing fighters.

As my main interest is historically correct simming I do not personally use them but they do seem to have revived the gaming aspect of IL2. In the end their is no right or wrong, its a personal choice.

The history of mods in this forum is originally anyone promoting them got flamed and banned but these days anyone criticising them gets flamed and banned. Rational discussion rarely if ever takes place http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hasn't it always been that way? I miss the old days of arguements about ricocheting .50's to take out a Tiger! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got '46 as soon as it came out and have been playing 4.08m since it became available. I just haven't been active online in sometime. Discovering the mods was quite a surprise, considering I remember the old days!
