Hi folks!

I gave my father Pacific Fighters for his birthday a few months ago. He is 71, and has spendt most of his life working for the airforce and has an enormous interrest for planes, so the game was very warm welcomed.
But fact is, he is really poor at gameplay. His situational awareness is completely lacking, and after about 3 minutes of dogfighting, he is exhausted! Becuase of this, he never really finishes the first mission in a campaign, and doesn't really get a hold of the campaign-thing.

So my question is, What is the easiest campaign to start with? He is flying with everything off, except voulnerability and airstarts.

Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!

To bad PF didn't come with a more robust single missions feature.

Have your dad check out Joint Operations, Skarphol. It's a flight sim 'training ground' so to say.

JOINT OPERATIONS (http://www.joint-ops.com/joil2fb/default.asp)

I've done a quick look at Mission4Today, and cflying legends for a series of training missions that are for PF. I couldn't find them, but I DO have them on my HD.

If interested,PM me and I'll email them to you. It's about a 5k file. In it there is 2 take off practice missions....several each of dogfighting....runway landing.... shooting bombers.

My dad's 73 and he's always loved airplanes seemed to know a lot about certain aircraft when I was a kid.....(though I never saw him crack a book concerning them). I gave him my old original IL2. Bought him a decent joystick, and set the whole shebang up for him. Like your dad he'd get flustered and 'tired out.'

(He LOVED Wings of War, so IL2 seemed a natural)

He sort of lost interest because of the difficulty and the learning curve so I gave him a Track IR. He's not asked me to set it up, and I'm going to wait a bit before I ask him if he wants me too.

So I know where you're coming from concerning your dad.

I have a thirteen year ols with the same issue. He knows how much I love IL2 and wanted to see what Dad was doing. I set him up with my old IL2 on his system and he has no cluewhat is going on. I've started him out in quick missions with aircraft of his choice and he gets the idea so far. I need to be there with him and it's a nice time to share, but tough to watch without flying myself.

He and his brother would play World of Warcraft on-line all day if I let them. We need World of IL2 maybe? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

I find the Germany Fighter Pilot campaign against the USSR with the BF-109 to be the easiest for some reason. It's only around late 1942 that your opponents are getting tougher I noticed.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If your dad only has PF, then try the RAAF Beaufighter campaign. Nice stable ground pounder that's fun with rockets and not much air combat except to watch your escort deal with the bad guys.

This is a great question for the Mission Builder forum.

We have many excellent member created static campaigns with varying degrees of difficulty. I''m sure you'll find what you're looking for there.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I always thought about making a short but really easy to play campaign. But I'm not sure how far to take this concept and run with it as its a difficult thing for me to gauge. I've been playing sims since I was 12 or 13 and I'm probably the last person who would be best to produce such a thing.

My thoughts on the matter were that if I were to ever do such a campaign that all of the AI would be set to rookie. The plane would probably be an La-5FN or La-7 or maybe a Yak-3 because of the ease of which these planes recover speed and their generally positive handling and firepower.

My suggestion would be to find a DGEN campaign that flies one of these two if fighters is the idea. Otherwise, the Beaufighter idea is a good one as its incredibly stable and a great ground attack weapon without being overly complicated in its use.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Get your old man to fly level bomber, that has to be the easiest DGen campaign possible. Ju-88 for example, or even Petlyakov. Most of their missions are incredible easy missions, you are flying on 3,000m+ so flak is not an issue. The only thing that may worry you are enemy fighters. Avoid G4M tho, you'll get many torpedo missions from which you wont return alive, plus Americans have excellent fast aircraft against which Bettys and their escort Zeros can do very little.

Of fighter campaigns, I would say definitely Finnish fighter campaign. I never ever scored like in that campaign. B-239 simply rawks against anything early VVS have, and once when Messer kick in nothing can stop you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

If I may suggest a campaign I would most definitely suggest hand made campaign with strictly defined & explained targets (something that you wont see in DGen campaign, every mission look like another with DGen). That said IceFire has made some really nice campaigns and single missions, so you may give them a try. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

My Straight Shot campaign is pretty easy. You takeoff and land on water which can be tricky, but the rest is pretty straightforward. The campaign can be played using a PF standlone version.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I can say only - strong reccomendations for ya http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

But I have suggestion/proposition for you; all enemy Ai bombers on rookie skill regardless of all other things.
That will help to improve realism since their behaviour on Veteran, Ace even on Average isn't really what it is supposed to be.

Attacking skilled B-17 formation is a nightmare in game... after years of playing I still cannot rely on my knowledge/skill to survive attack on them in Me-109 unless I attack them vertically 90?? from above on high speed (tough job in locked-elevator Me-109). Using what I like to say "eagle like strikes" from above. Therefore I always tend to set up bomber skill to minimum to minimize "sniper effect". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Of course this is just my proposition for you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Try one of the Il2 campaigns or the Beaufighter ground attack. They are easy to fly and it will get him used to things.

If you really want to put him in a fighter think about the 109F4 or 109G2.

These 109's are the top fighters in their years and especially with the 109F4, its far better than anything else you are likely to come up against in 1941.

Its 1941's 'noob plane' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
