What exactly is UQMG?
==================
UQMG is a quick mission generator that fills a gap between PF€s QMB and FMB. UQMG is easy like QMB, albeit with countless more features, some of which are as advanced as the ones in FMB. UQMG is free, professionally designed, has been around since 2001 when IL-2 was first released, and was featured in two major flight simulation publications. UQMG does things that QMB does not, most notably:
* Creates Coop and DF Arena in addition to SP
* More than 32 planes (over 20 Thousand, yes 20000, depending on your PC)
* Start on base, water, carrier, or air with several possibilities
* 47 Maps from IL-2 to PF (constantly being updated)
* ALL aircraft in IL-2 to PF (updated as new PF patches are released)
* Use composite flights as easily as normal flights:
- Several Tug/Glider combinations
- TB3+I16 SPB Zveno
- Fw190+Mistel
- Historical Ace flights without Ace repetition
* Select ground units easily or automatically match them with scenario and year
* Scenery based on PC capability
* Mission winning conditions/objectives
* Write briefing with mission header that are automatically generated
* Two additional tools: UQMM (Mission Manager) and UQMB (International Mission Briefer)
* Missions are designed in an average of less than two minutes, and generated in seconds

To install UQMG:
=============
* Download WinZIP file from http://www.uberdemon.com
* UnZIP it in a temporary directory/folder, such as "c:\temp" or create one. Right Click on the zip file and then go to the Winzip options, then select "Extract Here".
* Double click the file "setup.exe"
* Preferably, use the default directory installation in the setup.
* Start UQMG from the Start Windows menu.
* Follow ALL Instructions closely when you install it.
* Whether you are familiar with UQMG or new to it, I recommend you to click the "Tutorial" yellow button to start enjoying the features of UQMG right away. It is easy to read, and you will have lots of fun with it building missions that are very playable.

For UQMG Veterans:
* After you install this version you can transfer any of your custom "uqmg" mission data files to the new UQMG. Read instructions in the File menu in UQMG. After that, you can uninstall the previous version of UQMG.

Best Regards

Uberdemon-Before installing ,should I uninstall old UQMG from the C: Drive of my PC? Does it make any difference? Thanks!!! Oh and thank-you for all your work-you are one of the people that make tis game community really tick!

UberDemon

Thanks Extreme.

Dietz,

You can install this without messing with your current installation. If you have custom "uqmg" mission data files, the new version explains how to transfer those missions to the new UQMG. No need to transfer the sample missions 'cos the new UQMG is backwards compatible with old "uqmg" mission data files.

You can then uninstall your old UQMG, and not worry about it.

Great delta_9_tetra.
It took me 3 hours to download from Uberdemons site and then the file turned out to be corrupt. I couldn't unpack it.
With this link it took a few minutes and the file is allright.

In the UQMG Help menu, look at the "HOW TO COMPLETELY UNINSTALL UQMG" help dialog. You can copy and paste it in a text file. Here is an exerpt from it:

1) Uninstall From Windows
====================================
To do that, you will need to go to the Control Panel (XP: Start|Control Panel / 98/Me: Start|Settings|Control Panel) and then select "Add/Remove Programs". Select "UberQuick Mission Generator for IL2FB". Now uninstall it.

Thank you.

As I posted at SimHQ:
My problem is that for the last 3 years and for the next 3-4 months I have and will be stuck with 56K access, so one upload is all I can afford, because I pay by the minute.

For the download, best thing is to use a free download manager; something like Fresh Download, in which you can have several FTP sessions at one time doubling to quadrupling the download time. So if you are getting 3.2Kb(yte)/sec, you can boost it to 12 or highter.

jamesdietz,

Yes, the Tutorial is totally worth it. While I wrote it I found many issues in UQMG that got fixed.

You will start with the simple steps, and build missions with very nice scenarios. The focus of the tutorial is in the new Wake map, but there are other missions in other maps that you build in order to explore different features, including all the new ones in UQMG.

It assumes no prior-experience, so it is very easy to read. Even veterans of UQMG should find this a useful feature.

UD, There is one thing that concerns me a bit in the program. Excuse me if I am jumping the gun.(I am going through the tutorial)

The FPS manager is bugging me. This means that there will be changes made to my conf.ini settings when I create a mission. I prefer to try to create missions that will work with my current settings because that is how I like them.

So, if I leave it alone and do not choose a setting, will this leave it at my settings?

Thanks

Ok, I have a problem. I can't even get it to create the very first mission in the tutorial. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I do not have a countries "NONE" selection in game under single missions.

I previously had DCG installed, would this have anything to do with it?

I am just going to go ahead and create the NONE folder in single missions and see how that works. I am just curious where that mission went! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I have figured out the problem but, I will leave the above posts so others may read if same problem occurs.

The default path was not correct to the IL2.exe.

Which is really strange because I figured it would give me an error of some sort when it started if the path was not correct. It told me the mission was created each time.

Anyway, all is good right now.....I'll be back!

Uberdemon, This is just incredible! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Not only is the program unbelievable, the tutorial is a godsend.

I have paid for programs that do not have as detailed tutorials with them. The tutorial itself must have took an incredible amount of time. I can now understand many of the things I was doing wrong before by just clicking around.

You will be getting a contribution from me for sure.

To any of you who always wanted to build your own missions but just find the FMB too difficult, GET THIS PROGRAM NOW. Go through the idiot proof tutorial and you will be amazed! Be patient though, there are MANY features that you will be hand fed step by step with pictures included.

Salute to UD.....S!

I'll be back again.

Nothing to be concerned about. UQMG is a mission generator ONLY. That is, it does not touch or even know what Conf.ini is.

The FPS/Pre-Sets are for UQMG only. The pre-sets overlay the custom settings, so all it does when you select a pre-set, it checks the appropriate features in UQMG only. Click the yellow buttons for more explanation.

So... if you select Bare, that means your mission will only have aircraft... other settings will add other objects, but those are all a function of the UQMG templates that have nothing to do with any setting in FB/PF or any other 3rd party application.

In summary, UQMG ONLY creates mission files... that is it. I hope that makes sense.

UQMG first tries to find the location of FB through the Windows Registry trough a common programming read-only routine. Sometimes the Windows registry has faulty information resulting mostly from incomplete installs, non-standard installs, and unsuccessful uninstalls. For that reason, if UQMG does not find it, it asks you...

However, if the Windows Registry tells UQMG that FB is at a certain location, UQMG takes that as Gospel... that is, it believes what Windows tells it... (kinda funny right?). So if the location is wrong, then you have those problems you had.

For that reason, in UQMG, you will see that there is a Tools menu option in which you can manually setup the location of FB.

Programming, unfortunately seems to be part Art and part Science... seems that IBM-PC compatible and Windows Compatible mean:
* Not IBM-Compatible and
* Not Windows Compatible.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Of course, as a hobbyist... I don't know the Voodoo style programming that many professionals know. I apologize for that.

Ahhh, OK. I guess the wording confused me a bit. The way I read it was that it would change the ground "graphic" settings like forest=0 to get better fps. I see now, It just changes the amount of ground objects from the FMB object lists.

Thanks man

jamesdietz,

UQMG is much different from QMT. UQMG is a mission generator, or a mission creator. QMT is a mission editor, that modifies existing missions, but it does not create missions, if that makes much sense.

With that in mind, there are 3 ways you can change a UQMG created mission:
1 - Good old Notepad, changing the mission script file
2 - Using QMT to modify a UQMG mission after it is generated
3 - Using FMB to modify a UQMG mission after it is generated

I am jumping the gun here because you will find out how to do this in the tutorial as well.

Now, if you are looking to play existing missions in FB/PF, then do I have a surprise for you. Click on that "UQMM" button on the bottom of UQMG... that is a semi-separate application in UQMG called UberQuick Mission Manager.

The jest of it is that you can play any Single Player mission in whatever plane is available, and even from enemy perspective... UQMM even changes the objectives for you. You can play a Coop mission as a SP mission, you can re-play Campaign missions from DCG, DGen and NGen as a single play mission... and just like UQMG, you get 3 versions of the mission (SP, Coop and DF with spawn points using the planes from each team)...

Plus with this new version of UQMG, if a mission has moving carriers, UQMM converts the carrier to a fixed carrier and makes it a spawn point.

Off course, none of the original missions get overwritten... It is done in the same manner as UQMG. If you are big in modifying missions, you will also appreciate the UQMB Mission Briefer to modify existing briefings or to use it when you create your missions in FMB. It extracs data from the mission file so you save time typing.

There is a lot in UQMG. Just go through the tutorial and you will be an expert in no time.

Uber,
My PC isn't the greatest. For me to get it running smoothly I have to really limit the AAA.
When I create a mission on the Coral Sea map and select "none" for the AAA,the carriers are still blasting away with the AAA.Am I missing something ?
BTW,your program ROCKS ! I've been a fan since the very first version.I've said it before and I'll say it again, you should be on the 1C Maddox/Ubi payrole.

(Unsolicited Endorsement)Uberdemon , I just have to write you( again) in praise of your efforts.Srarted thru the tutorial last night & got to page 13...Wow! The clarity of it & the UQMG! I want to tell you I've been playing this game & IL-2 before it since the beginning & over that time , I've downloaded all sorts of things ,skins missions ,matt managers , mission generators etc,but this thing of yours is simply inspired & amazing ..Why...well...even I can understand it!Most of the time I have this stuf as merely side lines to the game ( half the time I simply give up when faced by the tutorial! This time I can actually understand & use it! Oh I'll probably never be a big mission builder - it takes a bit of time to do that, but who knows - you make the possibilities all there..& you know what I know I'll benefit in another wayhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.giftheres will be building missions & campaigns more quickly & easily & make them available for peopla like me to download & play!
You've done a maginificant job!I wonder what you do in "real" life because your skill. intelligence ,planning & graphic skills really shine in this FREE piece of PC gaming magic...WOW...just WOW!
( I have to say I'm kinda sorry BoB is on the horizon , because this & the FB/PF future on my PC seems endless...)

Uberdemon:

Thank you so much for your hard work and efforts!!! UQMG is a must have utility. Been using it since your intitial beta many moons ago.

I have to agree with jamesdietz... the tutorial is a great addition. For anyone using UQMG, even veteran users, take the time to go through the tutorial, you won't be sorry you did. I realized I have been using only half of the potential of the utility before I read everything it can do.

Thanks again!

Uber,
My PC isn't the greatest.
Thanks! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Sturm,

You are not missing anything. And I got a solution for you, but let me explain first. Here is how UQMG works regarding AAA and Artillery:

* Certain objects in the UQMG templates are labeled as AAA and Artillery. If you enable them they will be there. Moving AAA and Artillery fall in the same consideration

HOWEVER:

- For example, if you select Ground Targets, there could be objects there that are AAA, although I typically stay away from including pure AAA objects in the Ground Target category... Still, some objects will shoot at you if you are low enough, like armoured cars and tanks... but they are still not AAA, make sense?

- Ships that have guns are considered artillery as well... but they also could be targest, meaning they could shoot at you even though supposedly there are no AAA around...

Right?

With that in mind, maps that must have carriers for a base takeoff will have them there... and well... they will shoot enemy planes, as well as any supporting fleet. That is unavoidable...

Or is it???? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, UQMG now taps into the ability to control Artillery and Naval Guns. You want to completely eliminate the AAA and any shooting threat?

- Click the Ground Editors button under the FPS Manager
- Click Edit Ship Gunner & Artillery Skill
- Select Define Custom Parameters Below

Now you can modify the skill behavior...

Want all Naval guns to be silenced? Simply click the Weak Red and Weak Blue buttons in the Ship section and automatically you will have nothing Naval shooting...

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Is that what you were looking for?

Snyde, jamesdietz,

I am speechless. Thank you for your overwhelming support. I am truly glad I spent the time on this upgrade.

LordOliver,

Thank you. I spent a lot of time in the tutorial exactly because I thought there should be a better way to explain the features of UQMG. Getting a new program and trying to read through boring documentation is a turn off. The tutorial "sneaks" in features as a part of projects that allow you to explore and have fun playing FB/PF at the same time.

Plus it shows off the new Wake template... noticed the lighting details in the Wake map? When you get done with the tutorial, check out the sample Okinawa mission.

Thanks man! The "Weak" feature buttons are a really easy way to setup some training missions where the enemy does not shoot back at you... perfect for honing those torpedo and naval bombing skills. Also, you can setup surprise attack missions, both on your side as well as the enemy's.

Another trick is getting the planes in the carriers to have zero fuel... then you can strafe them on the carrier.

LordOliver,

Ah! You get the Prize!

You found the easter Egg Carrier on the mountain in the "Net 4 Mountains" map! There is a story behind that map. When I was revising the maps for the new Carrier in all map features, this was the map that gave me the most grief because of the way the template is set, and because of the mountains.

So I thought... once in a while, somthing fun is fun... a carrier in the mountain as a "secret" mountain launching pad... try some big planes there, like the Bf110.

Having only played Il-2 for a year or so (and banging my head on the monitor try to get AI bombers to bomb!), so I downloaded this last night and I must say, what a nice piece of work!

The tutorial provided was detailed, but got confusing at the start of Rule Sets. Perhaps add a few lines to it there in a future release. I had no idea you needed to click a flight and go to the database window since I was viewing the randomizer still, etc. I figured it out eventually, however.

Just finished a mission with 12 I-16's escorting 8 bombers and attacked by 12 Bf 109 F-2's. What a blast! Took 5 minutes to set up in UberQMB.

Thanks for this fun tool! <S>

OldPepper,

OK, went to the tutorial and just saw what you meant. I should have put a specific instruction to click on the Create New Rule set at the Rule Set Selector, and I failed to do that. I'll have an upgrade in not too long, and I'll fix that part of the tutorial as well.

Thank you for using UQMG, and for catching this overlooked item.

Paul,
Please check the UQMG Forum at AirWarfare.com

http://www.airwarfare.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=25

If you cannot start UQMG at all because of a "Error: Main->Load" message, then you need to read the post "UQMG users with Windows 98SE and Windows ME". This is being worked out.

If you get an error due to not being able to create directories, then there is a solution and it is in the post "Error: impossible create directories"

Hope this helps.

Actually, you can land an He-162 in a carrier, I have done so... but it is extremely tricky... get it as low as possible before stall, and when you touch down, immediately turn off engines, click breaks, and right before falling off, deploy chocks... you have to be extremely accurate on the targeting of the landing ... it is difficult... of course all your AI wingment will fall off.

But random is random... you never know what you will get unless you build a rule set with the desired types, then the results are a bit more controlled. If you use the unlimited set, then anything is game.

Yes that is true.

Demon (not equal) Daemon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

However, it is true that you can use the UQMB (UberQuick Mission Briefer) module to quickly design FBDaemon briefing scripts. It is not a very well know fact but the capability is there for the brifing tags. You could generate a series of DF Arenas with UQMG and then do the briefing part later, or you could create a series of DF Arenas in FMB, and then use UQMB for the briefing script.

BTW, UQMG is a semi-autonomous application embedded in UQMG. Look at the bottom of UQMG for the "UQMB" button. There is help there for the FBDaemon section.

Although the capability is there, explaining how to build a FBDaemon campaign is beyond the scope of my documentation. This is something that is left to the FMB experienced, and you must go to the FBDaemon site to learn how to.

Try using the AKAGI carrier (through the Ground Objects Editor) because it is tall, and use the Net Islands (Clockwork) map, where the carriers are moving. Then put about 30% Fuel in the Salamander. Throttle up slowly to 80%, then slowly take it to 90 adn release the Chocks... It is tough to get it right.
