Hi http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Which of these engines will require a better computer in general to run at high quality?

thanks!

I'd have to say BOB, UE3 you can run it even with a lower end card such as a 6600 or 6800 and get decend to good fps, won't bet you could do that when BOB gets released.

Yup. The Unreal 3 engine can (and does) run really well on current systems configured with even only one video card. Granted the systems I've seen running it are stout core2duo systems with 8800 series video cards, but those are fairly common right now.

There was VERY little difference in the physics and IQ between the engine running in DX9 and DX10, but there was a considerable performance difference...like 50% in favor of DX9.

Based on this alone, I'd say BoB could (all speculative of course) potentially tax a system more than the UT3 engine. Hell, IL2 taxes my system waaaaay more than UT2004 does right now and they were developed about the same time.

on monday i bought the following configuration:

core 2 duo, 2ghz
2048 mb ram
8600GT

how you reckon Bob will run.

BTW, i get 3500 in 3dmark06

Thing is.....BoB will have large formations with 30+ enemy bombers 50+ fighters of all kinds etc. all in the same mission tangling with each other.

That's a lot of polygons to render.

Engines are easy to run. It's all the stuff you put in them that bogs down your machine.

Wasn't there some rumour about AI bubbles?

Yes....but those are beta rumors http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
That bubble Ai thing would work if player is not near the formation...from what I've gathered so far.
But I suppose that's not really doable if they are within ~1km range (really close).

But. I'm not an expert of course I may be wrong http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I stand corrected on this.
As a side interest I'm looking at ROOST map making (it uses the UNREAL engine) and it has severe limitations from what I see compared to even IL2.

Unreal has about a max of 30Km squared grid, and it's ceiling height is not much more than a few hundred metres.. if that. This works well for FPS's where your movement range is not much more than 50Km per campaign, but with WW2 (BoB) aircraft the range is ~200Km and altitudes of 10 000m+.

What would be nice, is if the ground war could be included with BoB, but this will probably only be around in about 5 years.

So most probably Unreal requires a less powerful PC, but it all depends on how much you put in.

yes, but what about textures, what about shaders, what about physics, what about reflexions, what about shadows.... its just a different world in terms of graphics quality...

Why are you comparing the Unreal Engine 3 to BoB-SoW's engine anyway? They have been built for completely different purposes namely first person shooters and flight sims respectively. An FPS needs a viewing distance of 2-3km at the most whereas in a modern flight sim you'd need a 60km+ viewing range meaning that in the latter you will need to make compromises as far as close-in detail, etc. is concerned.

First person shooters can be much more detailed as they need to model a far smaller "world"

i get 28fps average with MoH Airborne, and 31fps average with BIOSHOCK at MAXIMUM graphics quality and 1024x768.

I was wondering whether I will get higher fps with the upcoming BoB, at same configuration... that is my single question http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Acer many of us are here for years.....but thing is: majority of us knows nothing about when will BoB hit the shelves!

It's not that I or other wont tell you; I'd tell you right away if I know but I don't.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I can only speculate and I say somewhere in the 2008.

I know it seems like a long time but it'll come........ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

In the meantime check out the Knights Of The Sky under Gennadich development team.

ummm... i dont really like world war 1 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

well, i thought that BoB would be released november 2006. Then they said somewhere around 2007, and now they say 2008.

Ill bet we will arrive 2999. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It's like a Blizzard game. Delayed many many times, released when they are ready, and worth the wait.

I hope MG never turns out like Blizzard.

Make a handful of innovative and successful games. Then get too big and rich, and start making mass market clones.
