Wilhelm is right http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ive posted a pic here a long time ago.

Its not exactly the first , there were several other types by other manufacturers like Henschel but this is the one with the best results.

Its the "Rheintochter 1" a radar guided surface to air missile developed for the wehrmacht by Rheinmetall.

Its development started in 1942 but the first 50 prototypes reached operational status first in october 1944.

Included into this launch ramp was the "Rheingold" radar system and the rudders you see on its nose where its guidance mechanism.

The radar dish was a seperate huge thing i sadly have no pic of.

The missile had a live radio connection to the radar-system which controlled the electronic mechanism in its nose so it was a real radar guided missile.

Warhead : 100 - 150 kg Amatol
Range : 40 kilometers
Operation height maximum : 6000 meters
Speed : 1300 km/h

Most of the prototypes were used in test shots. Only two missiles were used in attacks on allied bomber formations and shot down a british and a american B-17.

There was also a "Rheintochter" 2 and 3 but from number three only one prototype was finished.

Here is another pic of the "Rheintochter 1"

You know if they had another couple of years before all out war, there would have been some fantastic weapons out there.

Here you find some informations about the Z-plan. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_Z)

It was more a design study than a actual real plan to build all these ships.

Just a playaround with some ideas of what would be realizable with modern technology if you really want to spend the money and resources.

Which gives me a good start for this :

The barracuda is only a demonstrator prototype and will never be produced in the form you see it on the pics.

This prototype , and some other that will be build in the next years has been constructed for flight tests and collecting experience only.

The final version will be bigger and look a bit different in shape. (See the animation on the first pic)

It is supposed to become the first stealth UCAV with not only ground attack but also air-to air combat (dogfight) capability between 2012 and 2015. A UCAV fighter-bomber so to say.

The pilot will control it from the ground with a small 360 degree display that is created with projectors almost like those in a flight simulator so that he has the same field of view like in a cockpit.

And this all in a mobile way...

Oh those costs ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Thats were all the fine taxes really disappear to http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Wait until they build unmanned subs.......

Then they will need sub-sim experts to command them... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
