Inspired by: All we know about Assassin's Creed 2 THREAD (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/4001069287/p/1). This thread will be used to conveniently catalog confirmed facts about the game prior to release. First, a some basic instructions: When you want to add something to the list, please include a link to an article or video in order to confirm the fact. If you want to dispute something then please just point it out and I (or anybody who feels like helping out) will try to find a source for it. If a source isn't posted then I'll just remove it from the list. Also, I'd like to keep the list strictly about the game so something such as information about the comic book series wouldn't be list worthy, while "Ezio has a new outfit" would be.

<span class="ev_code_BLUE">Attention! Announcement as of 9-27-10: Story details are no longer welcome. The reason for this is as follows. The point of the thread is to catalog what we know about the game pre-launch for the purpose of informing new members, thus eliminating their need for them to post legions of threads which ask questions. What is not the point is to spoil the story for those who would not like to know the minute details, myself included. The brief synopsis of the beginning will suffice, as it merely sets the scene for the game, as opposed to narrating it. In short, story details from here on will be to me as fire is to Frankenstein's monster: BAAAAAD. Gameplay features, however, will be as fine as a rainbow over a flowery field of unicorn candy tears. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.</span>

<span class="ev_code_GREEN"> Single Player </span>
Story (Obviously spoilers will reside here.)
-The game picks up right where AC2 left off with Ezio in the vault having just met Minerva.
-He returns to Monterigioni to rest and take a break but the villa is struck by a counter attack from the Papal forces, lead by the game's new nemesis: Cesare Borgia.
-Ezio fights to defend the villa but is ultimately defeated and wounded.
-Ezio then goes to Rome, the center of power and corruption, to defeat the Templars at the heart of their territory.
-There he will rebuild the assassin brotherhood to assist him and save Italy.
-Desmond's story will also be continued.

Gameplay
<span class="ev_code_RED">Missions</span>
-It is a game-long task of Ezio's to infiltrate or assault Borgia towers which are located in each district of Rome enforcing the Borgia's rule. Ezio must kill the commanding officer of the tower, climb to the top, light it ablaze, and jump off before the tower burns down. Why he doesn't just light it up at the base is heresy to question.
-It is a game-long task (likely optional) of Ezio's to renovate Rome in each district by investing money in it. Progress in each district is represented by a percentile viewable on the map.
-Collectibles return in the form of flags. (money boxes as well) They will also be indicated through Eagle Vision and have markings on the map.
-Randomly occurring instances of guards harassing citizens will pop up throughout Rome. (See The Brotherhood for pretense and implications)
-Assassin Tombs, or something that resembles them in the regard that they're "linear platform puzzle sequences" will return.
-Story missions are described to contain more exotic gameplay/"Wow!" moments.
-Story missions will be re-playable this time around.
-As an extra challenge for mission replay, the player will be able to read how Ezio actually did the mission (Ex: Wasn't exposed at all) and the player can try to replicate exactly how Ezio did it to achieve 100% synchronization with that memory.
-There are unique missions, which require Ezio to travel to other locations in Italy (Naples, Monte Circeo, etc.) (I imagine these missions will be like Rome was in AC2. So to say, "Linear levels without the sandbox quality that Rome will have in ACB")
-Unique gameplay challenges are brought to the player through the implementation of Leonardo's war machines. These are based on the drawings of war machines that Leonardo made in reality. Ezio will have to destroy these weapons to halt Cesare's advance through Italy.
-There will be missions given to Ezio by Machiavelli. These are regarded as side missions, and they are hinted to revolve around the multiplayer characters.
-Desmond can practice his moves as Ezio through a training program set up in the animus.
<span class="ev_code_RED">Combat</span>
-"Strike first; strike fast" is the motto that the development team approached combat with this time around. A more aggressive style will reward the player with a quickly accumulated pile of bodies.
-Chaining attacks together will allow the player to begin a long chain of moves, each of which instantly kills the adversary it is used on.
-Guards are more aggressive and will rush to surround Ezio and attack from all sides, even interrupting counter kills and combo strings.
-On that note, counter kills are still a prominent feature in the combat.
-Ezio can use ranged weapons in pitch combat to reach out to targets that are farther away, even as he performs a counter. In combination with a sword/mace Ezio will use the hidden gun and in combination with a dagger he will use throwing knives.
-Disarms return
-Ezio can now throw heavy weapons and polearms to quickly bring down an enemy with them.
-Ezio also can quickly use the hidden gun in combat now.
-In his maturing age, Ezio takes on shade of chivalry and now utilizes a move in which he kicks guards between the legs in order to stun them.
-Ezio can now use the Flying Knives move while out of combat.
-Horse combat is improved. (See <span class="ev_code_RED">Equestrian</span>)
<span class="ev_code_RED">Enemies</span>
-There will also be new guard archetypes. We've seen Brutes and Seekers make a return. Common soldiers also return to fulfill the grunt role, although I prefer to refer to them as "Assassin Bait". Anyway, the Assassin Bait unit is back and just as expendable as ever. A new Archetype being introduced is the Rifleman. These will be taking the place of archers on the rooftops. Crossbowmen will be on the roof-tops as well.
-Enemies will rush to fight Ezio whether he or they are on a horse or on foot, making for an added variable to the combat.
-Papal guards are the elite enemies that Ezio will face in the game. They combine the top attributes of the other archetypes to present a multifaceted obstacle.
-Guards will use a grab attack on Ezio which he can counter by throwing them over his shoulder. <span class="ev_code_blue">New 10-24-10</span>
<span class="ev_code_RED">Free-running</span>
-All the usual free-running elements seem to make a return.
-A new addition are "chase breakers" which will feature prominently in the Multiplayer. We know of one that is definitely in the single player which is the Merchandise lift, a rope and levy system which can instantly carry Ezio up many stories. I'm not sure if other chasebreakers will appear in single player or not. (See <span class="ev_code_red">Chasebreakers</span> under <span class="ev_code_green">Multiplayer</span> for details.)
-If Ezio approaches two parallel beams, from below (obviously, they must not be higher than Ezio can jump) rather than grabbing one, climbing up, and then jumping to the next, Ezio will swing on the first beam, soar up between it and the second, and land on the second after completing a back flip, all in one fluid motion.
<span class="ev_code_RED">Stealth</span>
-The usual hiding spots are back: crowds, hay bales, benches, and rooftop gardens.
-One new hiding spot has been introduced and that is in front of a merchant stall. Position your character in front of the stall and (s)he will begin talking to the merchant and just look like an ordinary customer.
<span class="ev_code_RED">Equestrian</span>
-Ezio will have to fight enemies on horse-back. This includes when he isn't on a horse. Ezio can use his melee weapons in a jousting fashion against hostile riders.
-Ezio can use ranged weapons from the horse such as the crossbow.
-Brotherhood members will also use horses when the situation calls for it. (EX: Ezio is chasing a target on horseback who is surrounded by body guards on horses. Ezio calls the brotherhood and they attack the group causing confusion and permitting Ezio to single out the target.)
-Horse to ground, building to horse, and horse to horse assassination moves are promised. (ground to horse is also likely)
-Horses can now be rode through the city.
-Civilians will also be on horseback.
-There are multiple kinds of horse. (List follows) (Any non-aesthetic differences between them have yet to be revealed.)
War Horse
(Impressive list, huh? I'm holding out for any others until we actually hear what their names are.)

Weapons/gadgets
-Leonardo will still be making gadgets for Ezio.
-The basics return from Assassin's Creed 2: Daggers, swords, hammers, heavy weapons, and long weapons(spears/pikes).
-The iconic hidden blades along with the poison needle and hidden gun.
-Smoke bombs and throwing knives come back and are accompanied by the long-desired crossbow.
-The crossbow will be able to deal death at a distance as well as be used in close combat.
-A new and improved flying machine will make an appearance.
-Poison darts have been introduced.
-Parachutes/minihangliders will be introduced.
-The ability to throw knives in the midst of combat (while using a knife/short bladed weapon) returns from AC1.

The Brotherhood
-Ezio can recruit citizens within Rome to join the assassin's order. One example of how he meets a new potential recruit is by saving them from a group of harassing guards. (Hopefully other ways will be implemented)
-Ezio will be able to recruit males and females
-Ezio can send those recruits on missions all over Europe and the rest of the world. There they will do things such as incite riots, steal contracts, and assassinate targets. Some of the missions will actually be historically accurate, such as a "Vasco da Gama mission". (You do not play these missions as the assassin. That would break the concept of the Animus.)
-On these missions they gain experience to improve their skills.
-Multiple assassins can be tasked to the same mission.
-Ezio can also customize the color of their outfits.
-Sending them on a mission that is too much for them to handle will result in their death and open up a new position in the brotherhood.
-Ezio will have to equip these recruits with weapons and armor.
-The current cap on how many people can join the brotherhood is 12. The developers are still working out balancing issues on this so this number could very well change from the time it was reported to the game's launch.
-Ezio can call on members of the brotherhood to assist him within Rome using a function called, "BAM".
-BAM is an abbreviation for "Brotherhood Assistance Move"
-Ezio can use BAM to call in available members of the brotherhood to do things such as:
Eliminate a group of guards with a volley of arrows.
Engage a group of guards in hand to hand combat.
Throw down smoke bombs to cover Ezio
Eliminate some rooftop guards
etc.
-To prevent the player from using BAM as a "Win button" there will be a limited amount of "tokens" that will be used up as Ezio gives commands to the Brotherhood. These will regenerate over time. (Personally, I don't see this being an effective handicap unless the time it takes to regenerate is really long or if there are an abundance of timed missions in the game.)
-Brotherhood members can also be killed while performing a BAM command so it's best to be careful with them.

Economy
-Shops return
-Ezio will be able to renovate areas of Rome.
-In this way he "brings the Renaissance to Rome".
-The city will look less gloomy and the guards presence will lessen in districts that Ezio invests in.
-This will also open shops for Ezio to buy from.

<span class="ev_code_GREEN"> Multiplayer </span>
Story
-The story behind Multiplayer is part of the Templar's side. They are training their employees to become as skilled as the Assassins through the bleeding effect on the animus.
-They've modified the animus to be able to plant memories of assassins into other people using it.
-While you're playing as your favorite character in the multiplayer, you're really playing a Templar assassin in training.
<span class="ev_code_RED">Game Modes</span>
<span class="ev_code_PURPLE">Wanted</span>
-8 players
-Each player is given another player as a target.
*A picture of the target is displayed in the upper-right corner of the screen along with some white diamonds equal in number to the amount of additional pursuers that are hunting your target.
*Other HUD elements include: A blue ring that fills around the bands as you approach your target and a bar that will tell you how close you are to becoming exposed to your target. (The latter being utterly needless if you ask me)
-The higher your rank, the more likely you will have multiple players hunting you.
-Your rank is displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen. Next to your rank are red diamonds equal in number to the amount of pursuers hunting you.
-The winner is based on who gains the most points
-Points are gained by making kills and escaping your pursuer.
-More points will be awarded per kill based on the style of the kill. For example, an aerial kill will give more points than just running up and killing the target.

<span class="ev_code_PURPLE">More modes are to come</span>

<span class="ev_code_purple">Smoke Bomb</span>
-Creates a thick cloud around the user that will temporarily stun NPCs and other players alike whom are caught within the area of effect.
<span class="ev_code_purple">Hidden Gun</span>

<span class="ev_code_purple">Throwing Knives</span>

-Poison allows the player to infect their target with a deadly toxin. It will take several seconds for the poison to take effect and kill the target after you've already left. Because Poison requires stealth, a large bonus is rewarded for accomplishing this kill.

-There will be levels in several cities, so far including:
Rome

Florence
San Dominato.
Castel Gandolfo
and many more...
-Some levels will be tight and compact to encourage stealth gameplay while others may be large to encourage free-running.

<span class="ev_code_red">Chasebreakers</span>
-These include gates which will close behind you when you run through them, beams and poles that fall after you've touched them, and the Merchandise lift, which I've already explained.

<span class="ev_code_red">Maps</span>
-Multiplayer maps are custom made for the multiplayer rather than cut from the game world.
-There will be levels in several cities, so far including:
Rome
Forli

-After a few seconds they will reset, but those few seconds are all you or your target may need to escape.

It's highly unlikely that I'll ever play the MP and, therefore, I could care less what is or isn't factual about that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The courtesan's fan doesn't have blades inside it, it is the blade. There are real fans like that. They're called Japanese War Fans.

Also, you could have a section called customization. I'm pretty sure tailors will be back, and one or two interviews revealed that Ezio will be able to customize his recruits with unique suits and weapons. Ezio's new outfit can be mentioned under there too.

One thing I've been wondering about over the last few weeks is what they're doing about the Notiriety system. I haven't heard anything in the Dev interviews or magazine/online articles so I'm clueless about what if any system they're using. You'd prosume Ezio is so well known now that there won't be one but that's just my take on it.

Has anyone seen any information regarding the Notiriety system?

Maybe add in an 'Abilities' category into multiplayer??

So far, the Abilities we know are...

Ability Weapons: Smoke Bombs (makes a cloud of smoke to distract your pursuer and stop them from chasing you for a few seconds), Throwing Knives (Ranged - slows the person hit by them down) and Hidden Gun (Ranged - is used to kill targets)

According to This Website (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed:_Brotherhood#Weapons) Poison, Firecrackers and Power Charge are unconfirmed/unknown what they do!

Ability Moves: Morph (Transforms the crowd around them into duplicates), Disguise (Transforms player into another random skin), Decoy (a civilian turns into your player and runs in the opposite direction to confuse their targets) and Speed Boost (allows the player to run faster)

Source 2... (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Multiplayer_Abilities)

In the picture in the above link it shows we may also be able to customize our own abilities (eg. Throwing Knives with the Speed Boost)

This sort of shows an ability! It shows the throwing knives in action and it even shows someone else killing your target before you can http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Check this Video Out! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu8MvQe7qLU&feature=related)

So just add that info to the abilities section?

And there is also another little bit coming from This site (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed:_Brotherhood#Physics_and_Effect s) saying:

Ubisoft has stated that the graphics will be improved upon, as well as several physics in the game. Ragdolls will fall much more realisticly due to the new, edited "Havok" engine. In the other games, ragdolls sometimes would convulse when hitting the floor after being thrown off a building.

Here's good news and bad news.

Bad news: after reviewing the Multiplayer videos I haven't been able to come up with anything but an uncertain theory as to the Discreet bonus criteria. My theory is that you have to spend very little time in close proximity to the target.

Good news: I've discovered what weapon the Merchant most likely uses. At 1:10 or this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bS61EpIErw&playnext_from=TL&videos=rJYC72Ndyds) you can see the merchant kill a target. It's not very clear, but what is clear is when you see the merchant do a motion that looks like he is sheathing a dagger. It's a little weird that we can't see the dagger, but I think this is clear enough to put the dagger down for the Merchant's weapon. At least for now, that is.

You may want to update your info on the Papal Guards - they will be a mixture of Brutes & Seekers, and in one of the interviews (I dont remember witch) JF Boivin (I'm pretty sure that was him) said, that they were history inaccurate with the P.G., because the first PG were "formed" in 1509 while in ACB we see them way before that, and that was one of those 20% inaccuracy of history in their game.

One thing you may want to add (even though it has nothing to do with the game play) are the different types of special and limited editions, such as the standard edition, the special edition, the auditore edition, and the limited codex edition and include which countries they're available in.

Wow... hes right, at the :40 second mark of the video the courtesan's hands look huge!! kind of disturbing to have some pretty girl with giant man hands, but then again it wasn't actually a courtesan, it was actually the butcher i believe morphed into a courtesan so that may have something to do with the confusingly large hands, lol.

Hey guys i recently found this on the Assassin's Creed Wiki, not sure if it is confirmed but anyway,

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">In Hunter mode, one player will take the role of an assassin while other players play as guards. Before the beginning of the mission the player will have to choose his class - there is no information how many classes will be available, but each class will have different animations and weapons. After the player has chosen his class, the radar will show him the area where his target is located and the number of enemy players that are searching for him. After the player has found the location where the victim is hiding they must then locate their target. There arenít many skins for the NPCs so the player might find several identical people on the same location. That will make his job a lot harder because he should kill only one person, and if the player accidently kills an innocent person he will lose his contract. Therefore, observation is the key to success in this mode. Ubisoft hints that each multiplayer character will appear in some form in the single-player mode too. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Interesting.......

I kinda figured it would be around late August early September.

So, what do you think will be in the Beta at first. How many game modes, how many characters, etc...

The BETA will most definitely have all the maps (or at least the Rome, Florence and San Donato that has been announced) and the characters and modes! What would be the point of testing the multiplayer without all the modes or characters?

Also, the recruiting the Brotherhood will act out like a saving the civilians missions from AC1! Maybe some will join and others would just run away!

Don't ask me for a source, but i did hear it in an interview somewhere!

No doubt there will be one compulsory story mission to recruit 1 and then the others will probably optional!

Hey we can confirm that Leonardo will work for the Borgia
In the single player walkthrough, Cesare tells his man : "give me the tool [Ezio's] friend fashioned for us".

However, it is unknown whether Leonardo is being forced to work for them or if he's doing it on his own.

Acording to wikipedia's entry on Leonardo Da Vinci: In 1502 Leonardo entered the service of Cesare Borgia, the son of Pope Alexander VI, acting as a military architect and engineer and travelling throughout Italy with his patron.Later,Cesare hired Leonardo as his chief military engineer and architect.

I'm a little worried about the smoke bomb, looks like it could use some balancing.
Seems if you notice the guy after you and you have your bomb ready it's easy as pie to get the +300 humiliation.
As it stands smoke bomb and sprint would be my main abilities since they both have defensive and offensive applications.

Oh and I noticed on one of the gameplay vids that hidden gun only has a 40sec cooldown, if you want to add that to the original thread &lt;shrug&gt;. I'd be hesitant to use it though because it guarentees you only get 100 pts for your kill

In sequence 13, when the Apple is touched by Ezio, it starts shining everywhere and everyone in the room falls over with head pain but Leo! And even Ezio says 'We must stop it from weaker minds seeing it'. Leo has a strong mind, which is why he wasn't in pain!

And I hope they did more Desmond sequences because we havnt se much of him yet.

I think they said that AC:B is 15 hours.

AC2 was about 20 hours. (I think)

As far as Desmond sequences I Don't have much info, though I think they said he'd be in there somewhere.

Nice to know . I heard that they will show Desmond again sometimes , But compare to Ac 1 .. it's was much more desmond sequences there .

Anyway it's big http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But the good thing with that game is that you can play multiplayer when you finished the story .

i don't think multiplayer has anything to do with it only been 15 hours long, it's not like they said we can have a 20 hour long game, or a 15 hour long game plus multiplayer

another way to look at this is like the old games that ran over multiple discs, this is just disc 2 of AC2, meaning disc 1 contains 20 hours of SP and disc 2 contains another 15 hours(totalling 35 hours) plus MP

I don't see the point in that because most of the jumps and gaps are set so you can get across normally, even if you have to catch the ledge. I was just watching Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Demo - IGN Live E3 2010 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZlC_PYtoDo) on YouTube and they mentioned a couple of things in the interview I hadn't heard before.

The mission shown in the E3 demo is definately not the start of the game, he says that it's one of the first missions but not the first. Which would lead you to think there's some action in Roma or the countryside beforehand. They also mention Chariot Racing but only in passing, that should be fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You also get to see the 'kick' feature in action when he faces his first Brute during the battlement scene.

A few thoughts after reading this thread.

About Leo: He is a self proclaimed coward (during or after the wagon ride) and no fighter. Since hes working for the Villain he is either mind controlled or being forced to work under threat of torture.

Altier's Armour: In the videos I have seen of it looks like it has been knocked on to the floor not destroyed. Its probably scattered all over the place. Retriveing pieces of it may be one of the missions we assign our assassins.

Outfits: All i have seen look nice, but hopefully we can get a bit more variety. Personally i would like it if the cape were optional or could be properly worn, just having it on the one side kind of bugged me.

The Order: I am very interested in how rebuilding the order will work. Hopefully its 12 combat assassins and spys, smiths, doctors and general support staff, but since its only a 15 hour game it will probably just be the 12 assassins.

@Robson - Awesome, a new kick move. That'd be great!

I think the fighting your way out of Rome would be pretty awesome. Maybe it gives us a linear track to run on/ride a horse on! and then once we are out of the gates, it sort of flickers with the Animus thing and then goes up into the sky and has something to do with Ezio getting to hs Villa!

I guess it's good I returned before the gamescom information piled up too much.

Firstly, thanks to Robson for finding the Kick move. I'd remembered seeing that move in one of the demos and had yet to re-find it before now.

Many other new updates including an entirely new section under <span class="ev_code_red">gameplay</span> have been introduced. Look for <span class="ev_code_blue">blue text[</span> to identify new details.

Thanks to those who posted videos in New Single Player footage form Gamescom 2010 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/9101078778/p/1). Many facts were confirmed in there and are likely to be in the next few days.

Other source: Assassins creed UbiGabe Q&A 2-4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxn2x4kD6Uo&playnext=1&videos=sv-HROzzjeg)

I'm not inclined to explain the hairsplitting details of the Brotherhood Management Interface but if enough people say they want it then I'll give it a go.

Edit: Thanks also go to phil.llllll for mini glider and Borgia tower details.

at 1:20 you can see in Lisbon you can start a riot (w00t) or steal contracts

at 1:25 you can see that assassin is a discepolo (disiple)

128: they're an assistente (assistant)

could the disiple be a personal body guard/elite assassin and assistant just a cannon fodder guy...

I think Stealth refers to whether or not your target was aware of your presence prior to the kill and Discreet refers to whether or not you were seen by other players or NPCs during the kill. So if your target doesn't see you you get the Stealth bonus. If you aren't seen by others killing the target you'd get the Discreet bonus.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

So about brotherhood, I was thinking that while the scene with the Borgia attacking Ezioís palazzo is an early scene, I donít think it will b the first scene. In every game there are always parts where we learn the new fighting techniques and with the addition of multiple weapons being used at once plus new weapons I canít imagine that they would throw us first thing into a huge battle. A lot of you may have already come to this conclusion, but I have read some stuff that suggested that people believe that is how the game starts.

Yup, the developers already said that the siege of the villa is just one of the early parts of the game. My guess is that the very start of the game will be with Desmond and co. who are trying to escape to the cabin in the north that they were talking about at the end of AC2.

Maybe they try to move further into Desmond's ancestors, but they can't because the Animus 2.0 is running on a short term battery (they are in the truck/van judging at the end of AC2). So perhaps they decide to go back to the remaining life of Ezio. Then we pick up where Ezio is leaving the vault and trying to leave Rome. Then they can have a little tutorial right there.
