How many players could I cater for on a dedicated IL-2/AEP/PF server running on a P4 Celeron 2.4GHz, 1GB Ram sat in a data centre with an internal 100mbps connection on a 25Gbps external connection?

Dunno, but I'd say something in the 32 player range will run OK. Maybe even up to 64 players, but I wouldn't host more with just a Celeron. The connection is more than enough http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

Hi Rev.

As far as your connection goes... you can host 128 with ease or twice as many... but PC itself... Well i kinda with Willey on this one..Celeron is not a server material but it`ll do. Try with... 40 maybe... then see how it handles. Then work your way up.

Anyone care to explain what makes a Dedicated server so good??

Am I right in thinking that it is just IL2 program stripped of all graphics so that server doesnt really have to calculate this stuff??

Thanks,
Dale

Thanks for your replies, I'll go with 32 and work my way up. I figured the Celeron was going to be the weak link. Out of curiosity what kind of system specs would be required to run a 128 player server?

Exactly. No graphics, no sound, no stick input etc.

Lots Of math though and a "math co-precessor" is what a Celeron lacks. I'd strongly suggest even a P4 of the same flavor. Your performance and playability will be much higher.
