I was going to post this in the "other" thread but I didn't want to hijack the topic...

Ernst Udet was quite well known for flying under the bridges of Berlin(?),and their are some virtual pilots here (me included) who have been able to duplicate this stunt, but their is another stunt that Udet was quite well known for and I would like to share it... HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2CBx7x5GCI) (I'm talking about the second stunt they show...the loop and landing)

Has anyone been able to pull off this stunt in IL2 1946? I have tried a few times but I have not been able to duplicate it. (notice that the engine is at a dead stop)

...or maybe it's not possible?

I don't think we have anything with that level of low speed authority. If anything were to be able to do that...probably a Gladiator or a I-153. I thought I was crazy doing loops under a bridge on the Crimea map (in a valley) flying a Ta-152H http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm working on it - and yeah I'm betting my little -153 can pull it off. I can do John Mohrs' "falling leaf" which is a high alpha mushing stall during which you rock side to side without dropping off into an incipient spin - so the low speed handling is there. The problem I'm having is running out of rudder authority to maintain a hard slip as I slow down + crappy visibility while slipping with the nose high. I'll get it and post a vid soon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I would love to see a clip. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think part of my problem is I don't have rudder pedals... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I think you posted the wrong clip, it looks like a STOL landing? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I can do a loop and landing with a Spit MK Vb using less than half the runway.
