View Full Version : Russian Bombers - Addon - nothing?

Been waiting ever since IL2 to hear about a russian bomber (not tb3) be flyable in this game.

Dreamed of a pe - was told no. Dream of a IL4 - nothing. Even would take a DB3, A20, etc...

Then the addon news - great news - but no real Russian bomber.

I'm glad to see american bomber - excited to see the Ju88 - although, the Germans have the He111 - Russians don't get a nice medium bomber.

I still enjoy the Russian front in this game - our war is in Stalingrad, it's been great.

But, since day one, it has really missed out on a good bomber. Sure, the Il2 is great! Yet, by now - how long? couple years? I'd have thought for sure we'd have a bomber in this addon.

Really shocks me that the Russian development team wouldn't have more incentive to create the pe2 or il4. Seems like it would be a treasure to fly in this game.

My 2 cents - would nice to get a surprise, but I don't think there is time for an aircraft like this.

A flyable A-20 is in the works. The Pe-2 pit(I think.) and Tu-2 pit are in the works as well. Let's hope they make it....

Maybe Oleg will make the IL2-Z (Zwilling), two IL2 tied together. BINGO two (2) engines. But it never flew (a logically true statement). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I agree though, Fb109Z but no Pe~2. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Don't get me wrong, I *am* hoping for Fb109Z, in fact Oleg should put every plane designed in the 1930s and 1940s into the FB (including Pe~2). That would be about 500 aircraft.

Remember the Z was third party and not directly from Oleg. Still, it would have been nice if the 1C crew actually had stepped up to do at least one Russian medium bomber...the Pe-2 would be a really good choice because it has a number of roles from heavy fighter to dive bomber. The Tu-2 would also be good because it seems to be the B-25 of the Russian airforce...however, I REALLY appreciate the fact that they are doing a couple of versions of the B-25 and the fact that it will be flyable at some point is very encouraging for Allied airforces which are only just now being expanded apon. And the Mitchell was also in prominant RAF use so that is also good. Just need that Tempest, Typhoon, and Spitfire marks flyable and I'll be pleased as punch.

I believe Oleg has said in the past that there was a lack of accurate data for the Pe-2/3.(IIRC) They don't want to add it until they have enough data to be accurate.

Hopefully there will be a flyable Petlyakov in the sim soon, or better yet - a Tupolev http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

bump to this.

Go229 but no Pe2? a real shame; let's hope it makes it in at some point.

I don't much care if exotic aircraft are added or not (I won't fly them, just my choice). But I do like the fact that this is a sim with aspirations to accuracy and realism.

So I wonder how some of these planes for which reliable flight data are scant square off with Oleg's realism standards?

The 109Z is in and didn't even fly? LMAO.

May as well just do a Luft 46 addon and release it in conjunction with the History Channel. That way those that are interested can have their fantasy battles.

Not some prototype`s , its great to see tham , dont get me rong buht waht bring it to the sim if u dont have a good bomber (Flyable).
I hope he dont do that misstake in BOB!!!.

Bumb for any flyable bomber , recon or ahter plane outside prototype`s and fighters.

I coulda sworn that somebody was making an A-20 pit and that there was already an A-20 external model.

As for Pe-2... developers claimed there wasn't enough detailed cockpit info. Also there were a zillion versions of Pe-2 each with different cockpit layout. Doing Pe-2 correctly would be at least as hard as making a Ju-87 cockpit.

Personally, I'd love to get a Martin B-26. Long live the flying prostitute!

Yes, A-20 is being made, but the team has run into some snags with lack of data on the interior other than the cockpit, so if you happen to have any good interior photos of an A-20, head on over to the www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) FB dev. forum and help Rafael and the other guys out.

A.K.Davis, I don't know how to contact Rafael, but maybe you could pass this on to him:

The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) in Galveston, Texas has a restored flyable A-20G, N3WF #43-21709.

The LSFM crew are great folks and they'll probably be very happy to supply photos and information for Raphael's modeling effort. Hope it helps http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree with the original post's comment; The Pe2/3 is such an important addition to this eastern-front sim that one would thing it would have a higher priority.

The fact that there are various RL pit arrangements gives me the impression that its hard to do it wrong.....just choose one and model it.

I applaud the He-111 currently in use and hope to see the Ju-88 and Bf-110 in flyable form but I still have a faint hope of seeing the flyable Pe-2/3's.

At the least a flyable Blenheim would be nice, I presume there's plenty of research on this one going on for BoB. Although yes, a Pe-2 would be ideal. The Heinkel is terrific. It may take five times as much modelling work for a multi-crew bomber as for fighters, but then do we really need another five exotic never-saw-combat fighter types?

Cheers, SSS

Thank you cosmo, but as far as I know, the A-20 in Galveston is missing the essential elements needed for the project (namely glass nose and rear turret). The cockpit is nearly complete and I don't believe additional material is needed for that station.

I gotta agree. I think Oleg should pay some respect to its Eastern front origins and have at least something flyable from the Russian side. Don`t ignore your own heritage, m8!

Perhaps our voices aren't loud enough. Maybe if Oleg saw how much we want this vs. more esoteric aircraft, that he would put more emphasis on it.

I agree to post about the He111, great aircraft - hopefully something for Russians too.

You all fail to realize. Olegs team is not the one making most of those planes you're talking about. GO229, and other aircraft that you guys are saying shouldn't have been made before your preferred planes were made by people JUST LIKE YOU. BF.109 Z was only made because it involved an absolute minimum of work.

If you want a plane made/flyable, rather than moaning and complaining that it's not already flyable, here, get off your collective butts and go do it yourselves. Not like anyone else will do it for you, they're already busy making what they want made flyable.

------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

Well Sauron6 there is the problem.
We all like to see a favorit plane in this game.
Buht we dont have all the skills to make it like Gibbige or ahter 3e party bilders.
Buht the #e party bilders dont have the skills to hear the voce from us players/users.
We like to see more Flyable bombers or transports or waht ever , and we all accept evry new plane wiht a warm welkom.
Buht i think the bilders most read forums and join forces to bild waht the players like to see first.
For me personel if there is no flyable bomber in THE PAY ADDON , i dont going to get it.
In game`s i fly only bombers so there is no point for me to bay it if i dont get a Flyable bomber.
Dont get is negitive , its great that 3e party bilders trying there best and we support tham , buht sometime`s we most give tham a direction to bild or the are going over the top.
Even BOB is not my Favorit game , i have still my old Lucas art BOB flicht sim from my 286 days , it was a great sim wiht flyable bombers and fighters in it , and many tryd to bild BOB.
Buht it is done olready , wy not a new road like Oleg diht wiht IL2?
Wy not a Africa sim or the Italian Flight sim?
We want to have it buht we dont get it.
We pay for this game/sim so we have some vote in it to , or not?
Give us more Flyable BOMBERS!!!!!!!! please

Can you tell me what is a Fb109,please?!?

Well i saw you posting this so many times and i dont know if posting the name in this way is just not knowing it bedder or total ingnoranz. There where no Fb109 i know of in the WW2.

Early 109s and 110s are called Bf109 and Bf110 wheras Bf means "Bayrische Flugzeugwerke"
Late 109s and 110s are called Me109 and Me110 and Me stands for "Messerschmidt". The company changed its name later in the war.

Thanks for reading this.

Its pretty simple guys. Get a modeler interested enough and put it together. Some information has surfaced on both the Tu-2 and the Pe-2 in the last few weeks that had not been previously available. Namely someone found a museum with the planes and they took pictures. Currently some blueprints have been tracked down. All that needs is a willing taker and they could be worked on and completed.

Most of the other aircraft making the expansion or due for completion afterwards is from a third party source.

U know how long we are asking for the PE2/3 ?
Or ahter flyable bomber ?
rgr before FB was out.
And before FB was i have seen a B-25 , PE2 , Ju88 / 188 , Hs 129 cockpit and many more bombers , and the were all coming to il2 in the next update.
Well now we are in 2004 and the plane list is still growing buht wiht out new flyable bombers.
Is it not time to get some late war flyable bombers or ahter type`s for VVS and Axis?

Russian bombers wanted

Tooz_69GIAP
01-30-2004, 08:20 PM
Okay, I am very happy to see I am not the only one who wants bombers.

B-25 was the most heavily used lend lease bomber in the USSR in the GPW with about 870 of various models sent over. The A20 was popular as well, but the Mitchell had it over all of em.

The Pe-2/3's were incredibly prominent, and that is evidenced by the menagerie of versions of the Pe-2 produced (thankfully, Agamemnon is currently modelling this aircraft with photos of pit from Monino Air Museum Pe-2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

The IL-4/DB-3 was a mainstay of the VVS in the early part of the war, and should be modelled IMO.

It would be amazing to have the Rz-5s and Po-4s modelled with some "Night Witch" campaign missions included. At one point in the winter of '41/'42 the entire northern sector of the eastern front consisted of these aircraft (roughly 80-90 altogether) with maybe 15 or so I-16s and a few I-153s!!! Paying tribute to these amazingly brave (mainly female!!!) pilots should be at the top of anyone's list!!

I could mention the Pe-8 simply coz it's defensive armament is so fantastic (in FB at least), I would be fairly confident to fly straight through a flight of 109s, and not be too worried bout getting killed!!

On the German side, the He-111s are very cool, and I love flying em. But we have no Ju-88, and no Bf/Me-110 (btw, the 110 is, or was supposed to be, a fighter, not a bomber). If we get the B-25J, with the strafer loadout and rockets available (PBJ Mitchell with the USMC used the "Tiny Tim" HVAR in the pacific), the gerries should get the Ju-88 zerstorer version, as well as the normal bomber loadouts.

One other thing I think would be an amazing addition to FB would be to include some kind of historical campaign for the Ju-52. I know it wouldn't be that spectacular for trigger happy fighter jocks, but recreating the Stalingrad airlift, and the supply of the Demyansk pocket, and just the general day to day operations of a supply squadron of the OKL on the eastern front owould be really really cool.

Being a Ju-52 pilot on the Eatern Front was particulary hairy. Transports laden with supplies, and being already 10 years or so out of date, there was little they could do to combat against even the poorest of VVS fighters. They were shot down in increasing numbers all through the Demyansk/Kholm airlift, and during Stalingrad, well we all know what a disaster that was for the Luftwaffe. After that massive failure, the Luftwaffe more or less ceased to exist as an offensive force on the Eastern Front.

I for one would love to hop into a Ju-52, with the objective to find Demyansk, avoid fighters on the way, land, deliver my supplies, pick up any wounded, and then fly out again........and live!!!! Man, that would be intense!!

As far as saying to everyone, "if you want to fly it, model it yerself".......I wish I could!! If I had the skills, all I would do is create aircraft that are missing from the current plane set that historically played far larger parts than they are being used for surrently, like bombers and transports.

To be honest, I have no idea why people bother creating these mad experimental aircraft that never even flew, when there are so many excellent aircraft that are not present in the game currently, but which ought to be. I'm looking forward to flying the G0-229 and such, but IL2 and FB are Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War simulations. Why do we have Zeros and Kis and Mustangs, etc, and obscure european and pacific dogfight maps when they had very little, if anything to do with the GPW???

Anyway, I hope that we get bombers in the add on, otherwise I seriously doubt that I will be purchasing it. And never mind the fact that us little folks over here in europe aren't get a flashy big release at the same time as the yanks (not a single games store I have visited in my city knows the release date for it, and some of em don't even know what I'm talking about when I ask em!!!).

I, and I think a lot of people would like to know two things:

1. what is in the add on?
2. when is it being released in the U.S./Europe?

Damn, I don't half rabbit on do I?? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

P.S. - Flying Boats would be very cool. A Catalina would be nice, and an He-115 for the gerries too (love that crate, was the first ever airfix model I built as a kid!!).

And I really hope they are gonna include a Sunderland Flying Boat in some scenario with BoB. ASW missions would rock in that. Had a model of this one as a kid as well(I like seaplanes, dunno why http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif).

Want the russian bombers. Many of us have been waiting along time.
If time is a problem, forget the crew.
Just add pilot.

B-25 was the most heavily used lend lease bomber in the USSR in the GPW with about 870 of various models sent over. The A20 was popular as well, but the Mitchell had it over all of em.

...

Can't agree more that it would be great to get a Ju-52 up and going. I can remember seeing some screenshots of someones attempts at modelling a pit for this a while ago, but I haven't heard much since. I know there are still civilian/tourist examples of the type around. C-47 flyable would also be a really nice thing to add.

Just point to point flying is nice in games like Flight Unlimited/MS Flightsim, doing so in a heavily loaded transport with active opposition in FB would be pretty damn nice. I think for the transports it might be a bit of work since the guages/instrument flying would be of more importance than for fighters, but well worth it IMO :>

Another second for the Tu-2 here as well. There's a variant of it around with some ridiculous number of guns in the nose [16x ShKas + 2x wingroot ShVak ?] which would be very, very nice to play with. Attack planes are just so much fun.

It seems that a serious effort to undertake the Pe-2 is underway. Support this guy if you can...research, pictures, photos, whatever you can find. I understand alot has been done already but the best way I think to keep someone interested is for everyone else to pitch in with some help and voice some support.

Hey

indeed, anything you have on the Pe-2/3 (similar.. may as well do 3 after I finish 2), please send my way. amuratov at consultationonsite.com

The main problem I'm facing now is trying to figure out which references belong to which series. I was told that the Pe-2 at Monino, which is what I'm working with, mostly, was pieced together from 3 different aircraft, not necessarily the same series. I don't know how true that is, but I'm keeping an eye out for proof positive about which series it is, as well as information on other series.

So.. its coming!!!

Do you have the Squadron/Signal book on the Pe-2/3?

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif S~ Fellas Well lets get at it. First the addition of exotic non war worthy aircraft is a waste of game space. second the none release of the heavy bombers and the like is ludicris in my humble opinion http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif We have been trying to make missions and maps that reflect actuall battles and stratigy but with out the Heavy bombers used in the campaigns it is near impossible. We dont want AI Bombers flying around we want to be able to squeese that trigger and watch the cold steel fall freely to the ground ourselves. And the bombardier position would be a great add on. just think yer the front gunner blasting away at a BF-110, Then you jump over to the bombsite level her off set alt and speed just as clouds clear your view there it is the Dortmund aircraft bearing factory! BOMBS AWAY. and your badly beaten B-17 turns for home or a bloody field to crash in! Wel thats about 5 minutes of one of our missions hope i get that bombardier position cause if i make a patch it will be screwed up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Maybe the IL4 would be the best bomber addon, because it cover naval attack too (torpedoes)

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!

Looks like there is a real need for 3d modellers, so what programs do modellers use and how long/hard is it to learn to use them?
Can anyone learn to make 3d models using these programs and what special qualities does a modeller need to have to be able to model successfully? Spose that's all the questions I can think of for the moment, more coming after I have worked them out :P

Hmm...861 B-25s received by USSR from lend-lease. 2771 A-20s received.

A great page on soviet A-20s:

Hmmm....didn't know that. Cheers!! The reason I made that statement was that I read somewhere (I have a terrible memory so don't ask me where it was) that the B-25 was the most popular lend lease bomber, not to mention the FIRST lend lease bomber to arrive in the USSR with 4 B-25Bs arriving in December 1941 (they wanted the B-17 but the US Government told them to go swing!!).

I like the A-20 also. Although bomb load isn't great, and defensive armament not so great, but fantastic offensive load outs available!! And it's fast!!

P.S.- Oh yeah, bumpage!!

Agammemnon has my full support, and if I was able to I'd finance the entire project so that he would concentrate solely on this project. But I am but a poor call centre rat, with barely enough dosh to pay for my net connection!! And no skills or resources whatsoever to help technically!!

I hear you as well...financing stuff I can't really do either. I'm a poor student unfortunately...

BUT...support the guy in other ways (I've been doing that for a couple of projects now). Obviously he's asked to see if he can nail down differences between versions so he can try and get an accurate representation. I'm sure with a whole pile of you guys chipping away at the block and presenting raw information for him the bunch of you can figure out if something is historically accurate or not. Its not money related...its just a bit of time. I know its hard to find stuff too...I've been searching for Tempest and Typhoon information...its virtually nonexistant. Very hard to find...but you do what you can http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Every bit counts! Good luck to Armageddon once again!

Cheers guys!

Financing is cool and all, but I spend no money of my own working on this (except buying the software, but I did that a while ago on my own anyway), so don't worry. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But if anyone can stretch the day to say 36 hours, I'd REALLY appreciate it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

MandMs: no I don't have that book. Do you have it or have you seen it? I'm thinking of ordering it. Would you say it technically accurate or more an 'arcade' description?
