It's out on DVD. It never made the theaters. Is it any good?

It didn't make theaters because it would have bombed everywhere except the bible belt. Basically, until they get captured, it's a low budget Thin Red Line. Then once they're captured, it's a bit like Bridge Over the River Kwai, until they start in on the final "Jesus saved me, and he helped me save the film's stereotyped Japanese torturers, too!" bit.

Then, to be perfectly honest, it's somewhere between Jesus Chainsaw Massacre (aka, The Passion of Christ), and Alien 3. You know, the whole divided camp of tortured prisoners, with most being religious zealots and a few (plus Ripley) actually wanting to live. Except this movie tries to paint the zealots as the better of the two and Ripley's side--the whole 'keep on living, maybe win' bit--as harebrained and barbaric.

Yeah, it's based on a true story, but it would have been a much better film had it been helmed by somebody OTHER than a fundamentalist, proselytistic religious group.

Short version: it's a you-should-love-Jesus-too movie set in WWII.

Oh yeah I have seen this film.. some dude gets cruicified... should have seen the look on his face when he realized what a stupid mistake he had just made... oh well.
Kinda strange, its just about some guy who starts up a secret school, the captors find out but let them carry on, and they have a graduation etc.
It all finaly ends when the japanese desert the place and leave the POWs to their own devices.

I save your cash and go rent (or buy) Touching the Void instead. Or go buy yourself a copy of The Hunters, it just came out on DVD.

I'll second that for Touching the Void- absolutely brilliant.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - G√ľnther Rall
