Does this mean that MS will take all the good sticks that Saitek makes and stop making them?

Judging from their track record with making good sticsk and then stopping production, my Magic 8-ball says:

I am absolutely sure that Bearcat's recent thread about FFB HOTAS has triggered this. We were getting too close to get one from Saitek...

This cannot be allowed by MS and Logitech. MS is still cashing in on its leftoever stock of Sidewinder FFBs, which is available in large quantities in a secret and well guarded warehouse. By trickling the supply to the market, MS realizes huge extraprofits on the long run, and basically rips off those, who buy the stick on e-bay from well disguised MS agents. And then rips them off 3 more times as they buy their spare ones.

Logitech cannot allow that happen either, because their FFB is so crappy, any decent competition would mean an end to that product line.

Nevertheless, it's no point buying Saitek by us http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif There is nothing sweeter than beating your arch rival twice. Once on the marketplace, then next time when they buy out your company, but 3 months later all your staff resigns and you start a new company afresh with them, leaving only an empty shell of your former company in the posession of your competitors http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My guess it may be a purchase to eliminate competition... but for what product line?

Hope I am wrong.

T'wood be great indeed if MS started making HOTAS, but.... I cannot imagine if that would fit their business plan or not.

Saitek put them selves up for sale voluntarily, I mean they advertised themselves as on sale. MS and another company have taken the bait, Ill find the article tomorrow and quote it. MS apparently want to extend into gaming peripherals again.

On the positive side, what if M$ tools part of the operation to crank out more of those coveted Sidewinders? It could happen. They got the FSX patch going in the right direction and that's something I NEVER thought would happen.

Here's a little help for you Aimail101:

Hi,

Don't forget that press reports do contain a certain amount of speculation in them. Rest assured that Saitek isn't going anywhere (as the new product announcements over the next few weeks will attest to); As the article correctly states, we've just had our biggest year yet and we are looking for investment opportunities in order to take things even further in future.

I'm confident that you'll all be reassured when you see what we're coming up with for this year.

That's good to know.... and it is also good to see someone officially from Saitek posting here.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I am assuming that you have indeed been watching this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/3401016855)...http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Personally I think that MS realizes that it screwed up getting out of the peripheral business... lets face it... games arent going anywhere but up... and until they come up with a console that can double as a PC with all the flexibility that entails there will always be room for PC peripherals... if all the console manufactureres make all their controllers USB with drivers already on the consoles then the whole console vs PC peripheral interface issue goes right out the window... and it becomes a one shot fits any & all...

Saitek was always good. Even before MS bailed... I remember the first time I saw an X-45... the price put me off... but then again I was a new simmer then... I thought $49 was too much to pay for a stick to "play this game"... LMAO... I crack up now as I look out at my X-45/MSFFB2/TIR4/Saitek Pedals (with the spare X-45 & FFB@ brand spanking new in the closet just in case... ) , but since MS left with the quality of product and the price, there simply is no equal... as long as they keep that good balance of affordability and quality... I think thewy will always be contenders, if not the champs...

If Microsoft does make some sort of investment/deal with Saitek would this mean you would have access to the Sidewinders FFB tech.? If you guys do negotiate with them then I would make this a major point.

IMHO this means Saitek will be making yet more die-cast rubbery steering wheels and 1337 joysticks for Xbox at the expense of the already glacially slow-moving and torpid PC peripherals market.

I am itching to give someone 300$+ for a quality flying instrument. For driving sims they have the likes of the Logitech G25: http://hardware.gwn.com/reviews/review.php/id/90/title/...25_Racing_Wheel.html (http://hardware.gwn.com/reviews/review.php/id/90/title/Logitech_G25_Racing_Wheel.html)

We need something of this caliber for flight simming. Solid metal design, excellent components, good force feedback and rumble, programming interface.... Pleeeeease?????? (begging)

I agree.. if it came with a reverseable handle crip that could be snapped on in a LH or RH config for the throttle or stick.. and the throttle was on a pivoting handle..with say a 45 degree pivot for LH or RH config... it could work.

They use the same technology.. it was just licensed... MS just put more umph behind their FFB.. but it was gimmicky.. If Saitek could put rumble tech in the next gen of pedals... and in the next HOTAS for a start.. then modeling the stick forces as well..

Actually if MS came up with a CFS based on the FSX engine... it could concieveably be a winner.... at least if done right it could be another entry into the flight sim venue.. and if they used the FSX engine it shouldnt be too pricey.. they could sell it as an add on.....

The 45 degree pivot would work well but my idea is different. Basically, mount 2 sets of thumb controls (HAT switches, button etc.) at the end of the throttle arm at an angle of 45 degrees from each other. The throttle arm has to be smooth or molded in such a way that the whole throttle unit can simply be turned round to allow use by the user's right hand.
