A few weeks ago I was on patrol in the atlantic in AL - searching for an ON /ONS/ UC convoy. The weather turned against me in the night with heavy fog and clouds overcast, but the winds stayed at 5m.
I was bored decided to conduct an experiment, I manned the deck gun with the intention of firing some star shells to see if they would impove visbility in fog, I shot one off at 1000 meters and it disappeared in to the fog, then sounded off with a BOOM! My jaw dropped! I hit something!! then something shot back at me from the same direction !!!"we're under attack sir"! I loaded AP shells and shot back at it - it shot back at me again, this time it nearly hit my bow so I crapped my pants and crash dived, almost the moment I got under I picked up warship screws at 500 meters and closing, closer examination with the external cam revealed a very p!ssed off flower corvette pinging away at me like mad. I was so shocked i had to pause the game and have a smoke. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

What are the odds, in fog, at night, one shot, hits a corvette!!! Is that lucky or unlucky? I guess my experiment proved once and for all that sharshells do nothing but attract unwanted attention.

That is astronomically unlikely, yet it happened. Awesome! Thanks for sharing that.

That really is amazing man! I almost laughed out loud at reading that. I think you could probably play the game for another hundred years and not have that happen again. I'd venture a guess and say it would never happen to anyone else here. Great story!

It's like the typing monkeys analogy.

If you give 30.000 SHIII commanders half a year, someone will eventually unknowingly hit a Royal Navy vessel in the fog with a starshell.

Amazing story though! I would've loved to see that expression on your face when the Killer Fog returned the fire..
