View Full Version : Wishlist Thread

Make it a wishlist item and not a bug report!

Hi All,

Has no one started a wishlist thread before? If anyone has I guess it must have died out. Well, I am going to try and start one here and now and I hope we can fill up the wishing well!

I have seen a lot of really good wishes and suggestions by a lot of people. But they are spread out all over the place in various threads. I hope that people will post some really good wishlist items and that this thread has a nice long life without dying too quickly. If you have posted a wishlist item in another thread you could go find it and copy and paste to post it in here if you would like.

I am still fairly new to the game and I am somewhat of a simpleton, so my wishes are pretty simple, lol. But I have seen some pretty complex wishes by the really knowledgable and experienced folks around here! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif The unfortunate thing to keep in mind about wishes is that it's unlikely they will be fullfilled. But hey, ya never know!

Some of the ones I list to start off with are ones I have seen other people post about already. But my favorite one is all my own. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Ok, let the wishing begin!

Uzo Notepad pad too bright during low light conditions(especially at night). Needs red lighting at night.

Course Dial does not allow for exact course management. I would like the be able to put in a course of 50 degrees. Right now, I get 48 or 49 instead, even though I clicked 50 on the dial!

A better death scene, as many other have mentioned in other threads/posts.

A Free Camera view that can follow(be attached to) your own sub!

Here's my favorite one:
When I am submerged I would like to have the option to have an AI crew member watching out using the 'Observation Periscope'!! Just like they stand watch on the bridge when I'm surfaced. And I would like this with the noise meter implemented if I have it checked in the 'Realism Options'.

Good suggestions there!

I suggest making the grid markers slightly darker so I dont have to squint in a darkened room with my glasses on just to wonder whether that is AM58 or AM56. That really annoys me.

I also suggest haveing lots of stationary ships docked in ports everywhere, and some good sized capital ships perminently in Scarpa Flow. I have wondered into ports before while on patrol and found very little, and now we have nets and mines up around them, there is even less reason to go into the ports.

Also, this really irritates me - while on the Uboat loadout screen, I'd really, really like a way of swapping out all the torpedos to a certain type, so I dont have to change all of them individually from T1s (which I loathe) to T2s (which I love) before every singl mission. So it'd also be nice if the loadout was saved, so I only have to set up my torpedos once, and then they'll go to that configuration automatically before each mission.

NBetter starting places for patrls would be good aswell. Im afraid I dont allways have patience to manually navigate out of port. This is especially bad for the 2nd Flotilla's french base, where you start faceing inland and a mile away from the harbor entrance. Couldnt you just start in the sub pen closest to the exit?

I personally wish more radio activity...messages from HQ, reports from other U-Boots (position, activity), war news (eg France capitulation). Would make the game even more realistic.

That would be excellent, especially if you got in radioed orders like in the tutorials, telling you about a taskforce or something that they are reqesting all nearby U-Boats to intercept, etc.

There is already a big thread HERE (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=857101043&m=9631011703)

Please continue there....

Hello GertFroebe,

I can certainly understand your wish. But, it seems aimed specifically at 'Patch 1.3'. And the last time someone made a post in it was 5 days ago. To me, 5 days since the last post is kind of dead already. Unless your linking it here gives it new life. I didn't even know it existed. This is exactly why I have made this thread, in the hope that it will become a 'generic' wishlist thread not aimed at any specific patch version and that it will hopefully stay towards the front page. I hope you understand. If folks want to go and post in it and bump it up that's great! Again, I do hope this thread enjoys some life and doesn't die out. It's a generic Wishlist Thread not aimed at a specific patch version. Wishes here could be viewed as what we would like to see in SH IV. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ok then...

quote:
Here are my suggenstions. Some of them are already suggested by other members, but maybe a few things are new:

1. Wolfpack tactis with other uboats in Singleplayer (sometimes I think I am serving on germany's only uboat)

2. Crew rests more (also on stations) while the captain is in his quarter (Or add a 'relax-on-stations-button' into the crew-management, which reduces the stress on crew while long cruises without important events)

3. Reduce the UZO-brightness at night

4. Add the "hidden" crew soundfiles to the game. It would improve atmosphere alot! (cheer etc...)

5. Add resupply

6. Add a possibility to kick players out of a running multiplayergame (for teamkillers for example)

7. Multiplayers can take over hosting a game when the original host dies or crashes

8. Correct max. depths for all uboat-types

9. Add ability to change all realismsettings seperatly for multiplayer sessions

10. Crew should be able to be on duty much longer without getting tired

11. Traffic and anchored ships in enemy an friendly harbors

12. No welcome party and bunkers in french harbors while french are still our enemies

13. No patrol areas on land

14. OCEAN-DEPTH-INFO ON MAP!! Using the echolot while surrounded by enemies is not realistic. Also crashdive in shoal water is not healthy for our boats

15. Correct the railings on german uboats and other wrong modelled details

16. Add a delay between the order to man the guns and the moment the guns are manned

17. It should be possible to man the AA- and deckguns while the watchcrew stays on the bridge

18. If possible, add a few more detail to the shore near harbors. I missed the "Ehrenmal" in Laboe... also I missed Laboe and other cities at all (just but a few houses there)

19. Add one more place for officers to rest. Every officer had his own bed on german uboats

20. Shooting torpedos should only be possible when torpedo doors are opened. That would prevent shooting torpedos by accident by hitting ENTER

21. Grammophone: Choosing music from a list, would make it much easier to find a title which I want to play

22. Decorations shouldn't been given without a reason

23. If possible please finally correct the position of the "Luftzielsehrohr"

04-18-2005, 05:20 AM
fix the damage control!!!

04-18-2005, 05:59 AM
1. Expansion pack for SHIII (to include submarines of other nationalities).
2. Destroyer Command 3 (with minelayers and minesweepers, battleships and cruisers, etc).
3. Integration with the FB/AEP/Pacific Fighters series (so that we can fly Condors,Sunderlands, etc).

All this in a sock to Father Christmas.

04-18-2005, 10:19 AM

Good suggestions all! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif That's a fairly sizable list there Marc and they're all good ones too.

I know there's more out there people, so post 'em and smoke 'em if ya got 'em! I'm sure I'll think up some more myself.

Crew management is perhaps a little tedious. You know one thing that I think would make it a little easier?

If you got the stats of the crew members with a mouseover, rather than having to click on the guy. If you really want to select him then you have to click on him.

04-18-2005, 05:11 PM
I'd like to get to use some experimental sub types, especially the Type XI - Cruisers that were going to have 110 crew, 4 125 mm deck guns, and 6 torp tubes, 4 Bow 2 Aft. How sweet would it be to surface and kill a Destroyers with that sucker!

04-18-2005, 05:58 PM
I'd love to see BdU take a more active role in the game. This means coordinate things by forming wolfpacks, maintaining supply ships/subs, updating orders and providing general info on the war's progress.

I'd also like to see crew provisions.

One final desire would be for a summery of your career when you finish... i.e. ships sunk shown on a map, statistics/graphs detailing stuff like what kind of ship, when, which nationality. For example, I'd like to visualise what my main targets were in Q1 1940 or how my tonnage increased/decreased over time.

04-18-2005, 06:56 PM
Also, I'd like to see Wolfpacks, like may others have mentioned. Another thing is that if I have the Periscope up and then say Surface, I want it to automatically go back down. I ALWAYS forget to put that thing down, especially if I'm thinking about attacking or being attacked and then I run around for miles with that stupid thing sticking up. (How embarrasing).

04-19-2005, 01:44 AM
Lol Closer76. I understand. I always go to the bridge when I surface to check things out. I once found I had something waiting for me, a big pole sticking up on the bridge because I had forgotten to retract the observation periscope first... hehe.

BigDaddySauce, I would also lke to see more activity from BdU. I have seen other people say the same, so you're not the only one wishing for it. We can only hope.

More historic representations of Navies. The first Dido and Fiji didn't join the Royal Navy until 1940. Same with the Illustrious class fleet carriers. Where are the Arethusa class, Leander class, Southampton class, and Edinburg class light cruisers? How about all of the old light cruisers that served the RN? There were a lot of them! How about the heavy cruisers of the county type along with York and Exeter? Battlecruisers need to be added. Until Prinz Eugen and Bismark sunk her, Hood was the pride of the Royal Navy. Doesn't she deserve to be represented along with the very important Renown and Repulse? The Australian Navy did have two heavy cruisers of the county type themselves. Give them to us! The US Navy contributed a lot more than just escort carriers and destroyers. Three fast battleships, Washington, South Dakota, and Alabama, served with the home fleet and three old battleships, New York, Texas, and Arkansas, escorted convoys. Where are they? The USS Nevada was a key player in the naval bombardments at Normandy along with Arkansas, Texas, and New York. The US also provided a few light and heavy cruisers as well as Ranger and Wasp. Wasp made two runs to deliver aircraft to Malta before being transferred to the Pacific. I'd also like to see German pocket battleships, the Scharnhorst class, and light cruisers.

Hey Jeb... sounds like you know your history and your ships!

04-20-2005, 01:28 AM
I'm a bit of a naval history buff, especially concerning WW2. I do have both Jane's Fighting Ships of WW1 and WW2. Now then, how about MAC-ships? (Merchant Aircraft Carriers)

Ability to have full control over some of the currently automated systems.

1 - Torpedo Tubes be under the players control beyond just 'opening' them. The tubes should stay how you set. They should only close automatically when loading, or diving deep (even the latter could be dismissed - if you forget to close them, you lose).

2 - Battery Recharge under the players control instead of CE just automatically recharging them when surfacing.

3 - Electric Engines are also in control of the game instead of the player. For example, the player should be able to use the electrical engines to 'limp home' on the surface where you can achieve a greater distance and higher speed than submerged.

Took me all afternoon to think of this:

How about fuel leaks? I'm unsure as to where the diesel tanks are on a U-Boat, but still, I'm pretty sure that when they took damage, they leaked. A fuel leak could help destroyers zero in on submerged targets. Also, having leaking fuel could cut short a patrol, due to loss of range.

That, and "sound shorts" on damaged subs -- things that audibly clang around outside the sub when damaged, and make noise as the sub travels underwater. Maybe or maybe not a sound short could attract destroyers, but the noise would be at least a reminder that your sub was hurt.

Finally, some improvements in the sounds -- more dynamic storm & water sounds (crew has to scream to be heard over the wind when you are on the bridge in foul weather -- although it's probably a bad idea to surface in a storm anyway), and explosions that are delayed after the visual flash due to distance and the speed of sound.

Well, maybe one more: more penalties for doing stupid things (but not the actual prevention of doing stupid things, because doing stupid things is fun) like having crewmen washed overboard in bad weather, having the deck gun explode when fired (if it wasn't maintained), being able to man the deck gun in a storm, the sub dies instead of the destroyer when they collide, tired crewmen get injured, etc.

04-20-2005, 04:38 PM
Gahh, one more: I also wish for better resolution on the navigation maps when you really zoom in -- the pixellated coasts look too dated for this game, but too post-modern for a WWI German sub.

04-20-2005, 05:15 PM
Yeah more bed for officers, getting nuts of switching the officers all the time, when they get tired......

And why i have to start with 3 same grade officers and all of navigation skills?

04-20-2005, 05:17 PM
Let me type in specific headings and depths!

I hate having to click around on the compass dial or depth gage trying to order a specific number, and I have to click around several times before I finally get the number I want.

A real sub Captain has the ability to say "make depth 50meters" or "turn to course 180". We can't do that accurately. I always click a number, and it is off by a few degrees- then it's annoying trial and error till I get it finally- it's just silly.

We can't even see what course we are on- we only see a rough estimate on the compass dial, and the rudder position.

I think I'm the only one that hates the current system, since I've never seen anyone else complain about it.

When I was playing with english voices, it was really amazing. I would click on 45degrees, but the little red arrow on the dial said "47degrees"- then the text would say "43degrees", and the voice would say "44degrees"... WTF!?!?!?!?!

Doesn't anyone think it's important to order specific courses and depths quickly and accurately without trial and error?

04-20-2005, 09:28 PM
I agree I think there should be a heading indicator of some kind. I usually have no idea which direction I'm going unless looking through a scope.

One thing I also wish they could do, and I think its very possible. When you click on someone you get their controls in the lower left of the screen. Wouldn't it be better if the boxes came right up on the person instead. So you don't have to move the mouse down to the lower left of the screen. There seems to be too much mouse movement all over the screen to select actions for the crew to follow.

I also wish there was a back button. So when you go to one location in the sub. You hit the back button to go back to where you were. The way it is now I go through the sub and then have to start all over again in the control room. Because that's the only button on the slide out menu.

04-20-2005, 10:43 PM
yup- I'd like to back out with right-click from any station I'm currently at, to the station I was just previously.

I would like to play without the HUD.

For instance, when I right click on the navigator and "take him over", I can use the depth finder and look at the nav map. If I click on the nav map and make marks or changes in zoom or something, I'd like to right click and go right back to the navigator position.

This is for immersion- which is crucial in a simulation.

Some say this isn't so important, but I disagree.

No, you are not the only one. Apparently you did not read the very first post I made to start this thread. And, I have complained about this(as a few others) in a sticky thread on here titled "SH3 Unofficial BugList Collection Thread/List".

To quote from the my post in this thread...

"Course Dial does not allow for exact course management. I would like the be able to put in a course of 50 degrees. Right now, I get 48 or 49 instead, even though I clicked 50 on the dial!"

- TMA Solution on the Hydrophone Station -

We need a 'real' set of tools on the Hydrophones so that we can plot a TMA(Target Motion Analysis) Solution. Even the old Jane's Simulation 688i Hunter Killer game had this!

The TMA solution is for the targets course, speed, and range. Right now all we get is the targets bearing from our position. The sonar man will tell us if the target is moving slow, medium, or fast, closing or moving away. But that is awfully vauge, and we get none of that if we man the station ourselves!

Or did these old WWII subs not do anything like a TMA at all? If so then I am just talking out my rear and you should ignore me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

SHIII and Microsoft Flight Simulator suffer from a similar problem: the cockpit guages can be small and hard to read (like the sub compass).

Some payware add-on-developers for Flight Sim have had a breaktrough: a guage that when you click on it gets enlarged on the screen, so that even someone with my diminished eyesight can clearly read and operate the guage. Click it again, and it pops back own into place out of the way.

It's one of those things that when you see it working, you go, "That's the way it should have been from the very beginning!" It's such a simple idea. On the other hand, it took maybe 10 years of MSFS before anybody actually thought of it...

04-21-2005, 01:49 PM
Tip: One's click-dial precision increases when you click and drag the bug (red triangle) around before releasing. That way you don't have to be accurate on the first click, but can drag the bug around until it lines up with what looks right.

04-21-2005, 01:50 PM
I think it wont be long before all games and software have to include options for those of diminished sight etc. Im an architect and I have to design to suit the disabled etc by law. It wont be long before software has to be made the same way. Its already starting to happen in web site design.

I like "wish list" threads but, I don't honestly feel they influence dev team. Kind like buying a lotto ticket, it gives you the right to dream.

....on top of what has already been mentioned, which I also think are good "want".

Santa, can I please have for Christmas: http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

1) I want Officers and crew that are essential to the success of a mission and not just handy. I want skilled (depending on experience. I don't want them perfect) men at those stations where I not only choose to depend on them, I must depend on them. (hate going to hydro station to check it out because I don't trust my crewman). I want it so that if I step in and assume the role of one of my officers (I look at it more as I've asked them to "step aside while I take a look"), I better know what I'm doing in order to be able to do a better job. While SHIII certainly delivers on it's promise to include a crew, I don't really feel that I need them. They are more of a pain (see wish #9)

2) I want A more realistic navigation model. Even the ability to turn off the sub display on the nav screen and not have it automatically follow a plotted course, would be sufficient for those of us that feel that getting the sub where you want it, when you want it, is the essence of sub warfare. (putting torps on target is just the icing on the cake). Too real time GPS for me right now. If I step into the nav's role (see wish #1), I want navigating the sub to be challenging (real).

3) I want more intuitive moving around inside the 3d sub. eg. Mouse wheel forward = zoom into 2d screen, mouse wheel back = zoom out of 2d screen back into 3d. Left click = look around or go to another 3d station. (like it is now) Right click = go back to 3d station previously at. ....easy. I find it a bit too clumsy now and it takes away from the immersion factor. I really hate that I can't go from attack periscope back into conning tower http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

4) I want a 2d hydrophone screen. This station is too important to be "fuzzy". I want to be able to go to the 3d hydrophone station, tap on the operators shoulder (click on him) to tell him I want to take a listen.(just like it is now)Once seated at the station, I then want to be able to roll my mouse wheel forward (see wish #3) to go to a 2d hydrophone screen, complete with dial that has a contact log next to it (very much like SHII). A 2d screen would allow the dial graphic resolution to be much clearer. I should be able to rotate the dial much faster as well, in order to keep tabs on multiple contacts.

5) I want the radio and operator to be a crucial intel. gathering station. Messages from BdU, other subs, radio interceptions from enemy shipping, etc. I want the feeling that relaying my contact reports back to BdU actually serve a purpose that effects me (in the game). That radio should be **** important. As it is now, I have absolutely no need to instruct my radio operator nor do I feel he is even doing anything. (I guess he's supposed to be responsible for the automatic plotting of contacts that happens on the nav map ??). Whatever, he doesn't bother me, I don't bother him, that's the extent of our relationship.

6) I want to make entries in my log book.

7) I want more tools on the nav and TDC map displays as well as the ability to label my "marker".

8) I want a calendar in my quarters showing the phases of the moon as well as the dates scratched off (SHII style).

9) I want a better crew management system. I don't mind the way it is but, they should have more staying power so that I don't have to swap them out so often. I would like the ability to assign them to watches. Click on "A watch" icon, and A watch goes to their stations while "B watch" hits the bunks. I should be good to go for 8 hours or so. (The WO should automatically go up top with his boys when surfaced. I always have to tell his lazy **** to get back up there).

10) I want a more accurate deck gun model. That thing should be next to impossible to aim in anything but flat calm seas, but, if I want to assign crew to it and blast away in a storm, I should be able to waste as much ammo (and possibly risk injury or loss to my crew) as much as I want. Who is telling me I can't man that gun ?? God ? I though I was the Cpt. on this boat ?

Thank you Santa....

This is a "wish list" thread and so these are my wishes. Am I happy with SHIII ???...absolutely. I have great fun and couldn't really care if anybody changes a **** thing. However, if I was God, and I could change 10 things about SHIII, those are my 10.

Thank you and have a nice day. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The problem with that is that the red arrow is ALSO off by several degrees. Sometimes It seems like it's off by 3 degrees, so I compensate that way.. then when I drag it to a different side of the compass, it's more accurate, or even further off! It's NEVER accurate, and just as frustrating.

Since they don't possess the technology to allow us to type in our exact course or depth order, then at least give us this ability: Let us drag the arrow around the compass/depth meter, and while we are dragging it, show us what our ordered depth/heading WILL be when we release the mouse button. Simple, effective.

I'm tired of playing charades with my crew trying to get them to do what I say.

04-23-2005, 06:55 PM
SHII seemed to have a more realistic modelling of incidental damage on your sub. Things like engine fatigue, etc. These seems to be missing in SHIII, I can run at Flak speed for long periods with no problem. Of course, realistic repair times.

Individual engine controls.

More feedback from the crew as to what's going on around the sub.

To use diesels without recharging the electrics just tell your Chief Engineer you want standard propulsion.

You can, just go to him and open his menu and click on the first icon, the big prop.

As far as my wish, I wish they would make a detailed manual in pdf format for us to download.

04-24-2005, 03:44 AM
Here are some of my ideas

*1. extend the time form when you give the command dive to when you actually start diving since the crew has rig everything for underwater travel and one by one go down the hatch

2. make all compartments accessible

*3. fix the type XXI components such as nibelung sonar, and creeping motors

*4. make electric motors able to run on surface

*5. fix crew on watch while there is a large storm

*6. make keyboard shortcuts for man deck gun flak gun and man deck and flak gun

*7. fix Uzo spray problem with nvidia graphics cards

*8.make incremental keyboard rudder control

*9.make MG34 7.92 LMGs seen inside conning tower mountable, and useable on deck

10. add allied sumarines

11. give the option to configure surface weapons ammo loadout while in dock

12. make subs somewhat visible while in shallow depth for the air

Dear Development Team

I feel your pain. How on Earth can you field all the comments that appear in this forum?? By all serious accounts, you have done an *outstanding* job with this simulation and we all want to marry you. (Did I say that out loud?)

But amongst this ocean of incessant, eager thread posting a few things have risen to focused prominence: not least of all being the WISH LIST.

Could anyone from the Development team spare a moment to indicate which of our SH3 yearnings may practicably be realised at some stage in a future patch, which of them may be destined for an official add-on, which are most likely impossible until SH4 and which we can just stop thinking about right now.

You have given us so much, the hope for that little bit more is almost unbearable.

Yours, with many thanks indeed

Addict 20714
