One of the crew from the HMCS Chicoutimi has died as a result of the incident at sea.

I wonder how the Royal Navy feels now, all four boats have had faults now.

Unfortunately our country has been cutting corners on defence for years. Just ask any Canadian attached to the military about the Sea King debacle... or how crappy an Iltis is. How about sending troops to Afganistan in green combat uniforms.

I thought our cut backs were bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Did you guys operate 40 year old Sea kings?

It makes me wonder if the vessel was properly tested, or it was a genuine incident.

I am not sure why we bought them, I think it may have to do with costal patrol, allowing us to document activities of foreign ships in our waters, gather evidence of illegal activities and then surface beside them and scare them to death -or so I've heard.

The problem is we have never wanted to protect our waters enough and our current Prime Minister has his own shipping line.

These submarines have already cost us a lot of money because of problems with the pressure hull etc.

In any case this is very sad news.
I am very sorry for the family and the crew of the ship.

It's a complete disgrace that the Canadian Military would buy those used Subs..every one of them has had problems and now the cost is not only financial but the cost can also be measured in human lives.....disgusting!!!

The Canadian defence minister is making me sick on TV stating that he stands behind the Navy's decision to buy these subs...When are our politicians going to be held accountable for allowing our armed forces to use such terribly out dated unsafe equipment. This record of buying subpar inadequate equipment for our armed forces is going to have to stop!!!!!!!!
