View Full Version : I apologize

After repairing the hardware in my home rig. I naturally had to dig out the piles of CDs to reinstall the software.

I came across CFS3. My memory of CFS3 was so limited I reinstalled it. "It's got to be fun even if it ain't IL2FBPF", I reasoned.

D@mn that game is ugly. My memory of CFS2 is better. So, it got uninstalled after screwing around with it for half an hour.

Anyway, the apology.

I sincerely apologize for leaving the security of a great game such as IL2FBPF, even if it was for just a flicker of my simming time. I ask the community the greatest favor of forgiveness for my actions. I truly understand if no forgiveness (or quarter) will be given for what I have done.

May God have mercy on my soul.

Have faith, for you are not alone trying to write nonsense data back and forth on your disk to wipe all traces of that filth away!

Two days ago I faltered too, and I can not even blame it on beeing drunk or confused. All these screenshots of the upcoming IL2-based WWI simulator made me sleep light and uneasy. I found myself sputtering like an old Gnome at 1/8 ignition in my sleep. Hence I had to install CFS3 to try out Over Flanders Fields, but the ugliness and the bad FM's overwhelmed me. That smell of bad code spread in my room and I proceded with neausea to install OFF. Pour guys making such a fine effort only to have that engine beneath. I quickly uninstalled it and tried to cleanse my computer from all traces of it. Now I sleep even worse...

CFS2 is still installed on my old computer and it gets a little stick time once in awhile to remind me how good we have it in Il2 series. But it's threads like this that prevent me from falling into the temptation of reinstalling CFS3. han freak solo, it must have been a painful experience for you and the stigma will remain for many moon cycles but your confession here will help others to remain strong in their faith.

Han, Bro, I did the exact same thing just weeks ago...

The thing that repulsed me the most about CFS3 was how horribly modelled the P-38 was. It's external model was physically out of proportion, and that virtual cockpit was atrocious, atrocious!. It looked as though it was built from wood and cardboard, and held together with Elmers glue.

Whoever allowed that thing to pass QA and be released with the game needed to be prosecuted...

All I got through before the uninstall was the P-51D and the Ju-88. Trash, pure trash. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

I thought it was funny how personal CFS3 is though. With AC icons on you go from "bogey" to the aircraft type to the poor bastids name. So you can know the name of the pilot your trying to kill. Weird.

If only that game would have come out in 1996! That would have been entirely different!

The only thing I liked about revisiting (bleh bleh bleh) CFS3 was the ability to look right behind you with the TrackIR (assuming you didn't have the unmodified SE5A's headrest in your way. OVER FLANDERS FIELDS is ****. I had a heck of a time just getting some simple answers to basic questions from the mods. They don't even have a way to use the rear seat gun, and there is no AI to shoot it so two-seaters are worthless. The flight model is ragged---the whole thing looks hand-made. It is completely obsolete. The funny thing about the modding community is that they devote years to uprating turkeys like PANZER ELITE and CFS3 and by the time they have made a complete piece of junk into a shambling parody of a sim some group of high tech wizards has made a real sim and their labors are absurd. As Maggie Thatcher said "Funny old world."

Oh man, are you hard on Flanders Field. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I think they are doing the best they can. It's hard to polish a turd and make it look good. That has more to do with CFS3 than them. Too bad I know they tried really hard to bring something good to the community.

I salute their efforts. Many names I recognise from the Wings of War arcade game from several years ago. They just have a passion for WW1 combat and are trying to fill a need.

How many WW1 games have been announced in the last five years? How many of those made it to market? ZIP!!!! NADA!!!! ZILCH!!!!

I went through a really annoying time with the PANZER ELITE modders. The pathetic thing did not run well at all and all sorts of crazy stuff was happening like Shermans easily deflecting 88mm shells at 50 meters and Shermans demolishing Tiger Is with ease. I and others tried to bring these glitches to the modders attention, and, in my case, the head man resorted to "perceptual problem." I gave up. As for OVER FLANDERS FIELDS, I see that same insularity and unwillingness to face problems. I respect the work, but I think it is absurd. Third Wire has a WWI sim slated for release and so does Gennadich.

Seems you've dealt with them more than I have in regards to OFF, and have had direct experience with them, leitmotiv. If they are like you say then that's a shame.

I had OFF installed when it first came out. It didn't support Track IR 1 very well and I sort of lost interst. I had fun with it..... but the TR1 issue was a bummer. I reformatted my HD since then, and didn't want to go through the install process again.

I thank 'em for their efforts as I'm sure lots of work went into it.

Too bad CFS limits what they can do.....for example. You may have a great distance to fly to the area of engagement, but you can't employ time skip because the planes won't go over 130 mph (or whatever default speed needs to be to engage time skip.) It's a limit of CFS3.

Well like all things, some people will hate, some will love.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=10557

Hmm on www.polovski.com/OFFAQ.htm (http://www.polovski.com/OFFAQ.htm) that tells you 3 ways to skip distance. X for warp works
just fine.. dive a little to 123 mph press X. Voila. Easy.

Also you can enable time speed add -time to the end of the shell.exe command in off.bat, now ctrl+e ctrl+r speeds up 2x 4x 8x etc..

I tried 2 seaters they are fine, flyable gunners work fine, and usable even 2 guys in a plane in multiplayer?

Scenery is stunning, atmosphere over the front is great much much better than CFS3.

I'd give it a chance if you like WW1 lots of Il2 guys love it here many fly IL2 too..
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=19976

Pray, Slice, how did you get the rear gunner to work while you flew? I exchanged posts with one of the developers about two months ago and he led me to understand it was a glitch they needed to fix---that the only way you could get your rear gunner to work was to drop full realism and designate targets for him with the crib which shows where all the aircraft are---this was definitely cheesy to me. You must be joking about the crude flight model! After Il-2 COMPLETE it is Special Needs. I found it interesting because I'm nuts about WWI flying, but even I have limits. Two good things I can say about it: (1) it supports the latest TrackIR superbly, and (2) CFS3 gives you the ability to realistically check six---much better than Il-2 COMPLETE. Er, what's MAW?

I was going through old backup disks last night, and I found a letter to an ex, I'd made a comment that I was fed to the back teeth with a computer game (CFS3), and was trying an interesting russian demo. Dated 19 Feb, 2003.

It would really help if MS would finnish the blasted sims they make. CFS2 was good only after the many user made fixes were installed, like actually retaining roll ability when you took one hit in a wingtip.

I see many of the same problems are still there.the misn blder in that cfs2 was a totally useless piece of excrement. No way they could have even tested the stock cmpn. I enjoyed it in user made cmpn form, made one cmpn, then gave up on the msnblder. I put it up when IL2 came out, and ill never buy another ms flt sim of any type. they need to just get outta that business and never come back. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Weirdly enough, I figured out the mission builder in CFS2 after not much tinkering around. It usually took me 3-4 hours to get a mission together that was nearly bug free. CFS1 on the other hand, being written on a spread sheet, was a task I never learned.

About a year ago I spent about an hour with the IL2FB mission builder and couldn't figure out a thing. Not even a basic flight.

Anyway, back to what happened to me when I installed CFS3.
