Hey, I just went from win2000 to winxp. My X-45 joystick/throttle workd just fine with 2000 but it doesn't seem to like winxp. When I try and configure it I get a message saying that it doesn't have the 'designed for xp' logo and if I want to continue. I click continue and get the same message again, when I click continue the configure program freezes. What do I do? I long for FB goodness but can't fly without a joystick!

It shouldn't give you problems ...

... well ...

OK have you the latest XP drivers from Saitek?
I'd DL those. (http://www.saitek.com/) {snipped}

Yup, the ones I'm using are not certified - but that is (usually) OK.

One thing I have noticed about the Saitek drivers ... they have to be the last thing installed on XP. I occasionally have to re-install the Saitek drivers if I do a system upgrade.

btw - there is an alternative set of drivers for the X45 ... check back through threads here (and maybe somebody will post a link)

I've given up correcting my own spelling
Unless I've corrected it here

The alternative drivers for the X-45 are Dhauzimmers drivers. You'll also need some separate profiling software to go with those drivers. Links are:

Dhauzimmer's drivers (http://vega.dyndns.org/x36/) (you want the file named x36usb2105c.zip and the readme file)

XDProfile profiling software (http://xdprofile.freebirdswing.org/)

Hazardscript profiling software (http://www.mindspring.com/~haphazard/HazardScript/)

Biped profiling software (http://elex.amu.edu.pl/~mjarek/)

I've used both XDProfile and Hazardscript and both work well. XDP is easier to use.

Biped is new and I haven't had time to learn it yet (I'd need to re-install drivers too, I'm currently using Saitek's latest SST driver), but preliminary reports indicate it's very capable as well.

You can have all three profilers installed, they don't interfere with each other at all. This allows you to use profiles from different generators for different games, as each profiler has its own special features.

Dhauzimmer's and associated profilers are a little fiddlier to install and learn than Saitek's drivers, but appear to suffer fewer problems when properly installed. They also offer some flexibility that Saitek's own drivers don't, but only the more advanced users will miss those additional options in most cases.

For any further questions on these options, you might like to drop in at SimHQ's Saitek Hardware forum (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=79). Dhauzimmer and the authors of all three profilers all keep an eye on that forum, as do one or two of Saitek's own tech staff (though they prefer questions about Saitek's software to be posted at Saitek's forums).

thnx for the help guys. I just updated the BIOS on my mobo and now the joystick works fine. IL-2 is randomly crashing to desktop now though...why can't computers always work!! It's starting to piss me off because this one is brand new. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
