Why are we all spelling "nazis"? It's easy to spell "nazis" anyway. It's n-a-z-i-s. Simple. Let's all get to spelling "fascists" now. Pencils ready?

We talked about this in my pysc class. Our professor called for students to go up to the front of the class and follow those instructions while she timed the ammount of time it took to complete the "experiment" . Then i went up and i did better than anyone else so far. We began talking about it and i told the teacher that i was bilingual, soo then she asked me to say the colors in spanish and my time was the same. Then we took all the students that were bilingual(not hard to find in texas http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif) and all the students that only spoke english and we found out that the time it took for the students that were bilingual was less than those that only spoke one language.

Pretty interesting stuff indeed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I'm a closet-spelling-nazi. I can't help it. It's something I've always done and, sadly, I have little tolerance for poor spelling. In this day and age of spell checkers and little squiggly red lines under misspelled words there's no excuse other than laziness. I seldom call anyone on it here mostly because of the international nature of this forum, but at work? OMG! Many have told me they scrutinize even simple emails before they send them to me because I call them on it constantly. They've said it's almost a challenge to send it clean the first time.

but that's just me... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

It's worth noting that you actually need the vocabulary too, not just the spelling ability, in order to understand the scrambled sentence.

Try 'aohephistos' or 'lysomarche' as words in the 'porbelm' - useful english words, any offers?

The point of good spelling is to carry the full meaning of a sentence uttered by one, to another, without room for misunderstanding.

Given the current nature of the world around us, isn't that of the utmost importance?

Sluery?

Amen, brother! Attention to detail counts! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif (although I'm a huge fan of colloquialisms and German sentences).

But I stopped worrying about others mistakes awhile ago...my teeth couldn't take all the grinding!

Quick Poll:

How many of y'all go back and correct spelling and grammatical errors no matter how minor (if you find them)?

Guilty!

That said, feel free to correct any of my mistakes (except you Leitmotiv). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And with proper spelling and grammar they might actually take you seriously. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

No offense, lad...just a fact of life. Occasionally I'm allowed to participate in the hiring process at work and the first thing I do when I get a stack of resumes is go through and find all the ones with misspelled words and poor grammar (if it's any consolation, I never would have hired myself. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

But I'll admit that communicating a good idea is almost as hard as coming up with it in the first place...hang in there and keep practicing!
