Hi guys, well as you may remember from this topic

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/8941071075

Divine-Wind came up with the great idea of a campaign where you play as an air pirate. With his help and advice I played around with FMB and created a short campaign based on the scenario.

Here it is:

http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=3587

In Divine-Wind's words, it's "a lot of low-level dogfights using a Spitfire." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Hopefully people have fun with it, it's my first campaign so I'm sure there are a lot of things that need polishing. You start out with an I-16, then use a Spitfire VIII for the rest of it. I have some more missions with Tempests and Seafires but they need a lot more polishing and new skins.

You will probably want to use unlimited ammo, there are a lot of enemies and not many allies. I thought arcade-style action would be in keeping with a pirate scenario. If people are interested in this, I'll make another version that is more spartan and more appropriate for limited ammo.

Oh and if anyone has any recommendations or ideas, let me know.

Also the skins I used were located in Il-2's program files in 4.08m, I just added flags to them. In the readme I gave credit to the skins that had credits on them. I'm not sure if that is kosher, if not I'll remove the campaign and try and get some skins provided with permission.

[Insert cheesy, generic blurb here]

I don't usually go for late-war planes, but I have to say, they can make for some pretty intense dogfights at low level. Make sure you bring lots of ammo, though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I might make some more I-16 missions, I intended to make at least 3 but then I started messing around with the Spitfires.

Any other ideas about planes to use?

<span class="ev_code_RED">NOTE:</span>

Divine-Wind just brought to my attention that there is an error.

I mislabeled the folder containing the campaigns as "Air Pirates!" when it should read:

<span class="ev_code_RED">Air_Pirates</span>

If you've already downloaded it, just change the folder name to that.

I fixed the folder title on the Mission4Today download.

Well, to quote Zeus-cat, arguably one of the best campaign builders here:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">It takes 100's of hours to make each of these campaigns and close to 99% of the people that download them never even bother to say thank you or post a review or do anything. Yeah I saw that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It's cool, it's gotten a steady number of downloads at M4T--hopefully that number isn't all webbots downloading it for no reason though. I had fun making it, that's all that really matters to me.

Great stuff!

I've often considered building a campaign where there are no rules or constraints and the only limit is your imagination.

Cool to see stuff like this...

Cool, thanks for the kind words Steiner and Goanna. Any suggestions?

I have 5 more missions with Tempests and Seafires...I'll try and get the skinning done and try and post it in the next couple days, as "Air Pirates Part 2" or whatever.

Divine Wind likes the early war planes so I think after this I'll make some early war missions...maybe the I-16, maybe some other stuff...IAR 80, Yak 7, etc...low-speed dogfights can definitely be very intense.

Hmm...anyone got a Tempest skin to spare? I just need one to add the pirate flag on top of.

Other than that the new missions are mostly done, need to QC them a bit and make mission briefings.

JG53_Valantine
12-21-2008, 08:50 PM
Had a great bit of fun on this yesterday! Although I have to admit, I had to open a couple of the missions up in FMB and strip out a few of the ground objects as It got a bit slideshowy with a lot of dogfighting going on.
Great concept though! Perhaps you should combine efforts with the Sea Dogs to get it released sooner http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Ba5tard5word
12-22-2008, 01:20 PM
Hey thanks JG.

Yeah there are a lot of objects, sorry if they cause any slowdowns.

I'm going to ask around for a Tempest skin and hopefully get the 2nd batch of missions out soonish.

Ba5tard5word
12-23-2008, 01:04 AM
Hmm well might be a while before I get a Tempest skin from anyone.

In the meantime, I'm making another set of missions set around 1939/1940-ish, with early planes.

I kinda like one mission where you take off from a carrier in an I-16 (no arrestor hook so no turning back!) then lead an assault on an airbase.....then after all the AA is destroyed and all bogeys are downed, you land on the tarmac, claiming the base as your own. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Probably been done before but whatever.

Here we see our man "Blackjack" narrowly escaping the bombing of his airstrip.

Over at Simmerspaintshop there are several fantastic Tempest templates. I used them to make some early Sea Dog skins for the Tempest until I swapped over to early war planes. The aluminum template, I think, could be used for a great pirate skin.

Edit: Also, you're using the GIMP, right? If so, I've got several skull and crossbone insignias lying around that are begging to be stuck on that salvaged I-16. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

gorkyporky
12-24-2008, 02:34 PM
This is fantasticly entertaining, even tough i managed to die 4 times on the second mission (i still have to complete it, i always get to greedy with the 110s and they manage to get me)

Ba5tard5word
12-24-2008, 02:38 PM
Hey thanks!

Yeah 110's can be tricky, I try to come up on them from below and if I'm lucky I can blow their wing off or set the engine on fire before the rear gunner hits me. I think in that mission you have to be clever because if the 110's drop their bombs if they get hit, they immediately turn into fighter mode and chase after you...and can blow up your plane with a quick burst of their forward weapons.

I'm working on some new missions set early in 1939-1941, mainly with the I-16 against Italian forces using M.200's, and am trying to find a good plane for the player to move up to after the I-16...maybe the Yak-7B. I made a mission with IAR 80 enemies...man those are annoying! Deceptively quick and clever.

Divine-Wind
12-24-2008, 03:02 PM
The P-36 and Ms-406/410 are pretty good pre-/early-war monoplanes. They're also quite cool. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ba5tard5word
12-24-2008, 03:27 PM
Grr, they're only flyable in the mods and I don't like having the mods installed because they really slow down my framerate for some reason. Any others in 4.08m? Hurricanes would be good I guess but damn they're slow.

Divine-Wind
12-24-2008, 07:24 PM
Ah... Hurricanes are good, but they're everywhere. Maybe the Ki-27? It's got fixed gear, but it does go quite fast.

Aside from that... There aren't really a whole lot of stock pre-war monoplanes, unfortunately.

Well I just submitted the 2nd batch of missions to Mission4Today as "Air Pirates Part Two." (was almost going to name it "Part Deux" but thought against it... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif)

And again I have another 10 (I think) missions of stuff set earlier in the war, with slower early war planes...

Anyway until M4T posts Part Two, here's a pic of a really cool pirate Tempest skin that Friendly Flier provided for the campaign. Thanks again!

Aw man, this campaign is so fun! Im still actualy flying the first part but its great, i really like the constant action, without any boring 2 hour straight fights (i do however use the autopilot and 8x time acc when im flying to mission objective). Great stuff man, i hope the second part is similar to the first!

If you haven't installed a campaign before, it can be a bit tricky.

I put instructions in the readme file that give directions on how to get it uploaded.

Take the folder inside the RAR file that says "Air_Pirates" and place it here:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\GB

Place the skins in the folders for the aircraft as indicated in the readme file.

Then to start the campaign, start up Il-2, and select "pilot career." Select RAF and the campaign should show up there.

Let me know here if you need any more help, it definitely took me a lot of trial and error to figure out how to install a campaign, then to create one and get it running properly, again it's a bit tricky.

IMO it's definitely not generic, although the single-player might get somewhat repetitive after a while. (And possibly multiplayer, although as I don't have XBL I wouldn't know)

At the moment, though, it's new enough that I think it's the coolest real-time strategy game of 2008. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif The voice-command is pretty neat, although every so often the game decides that "Advance with some haste to Uplink Xerxes so the Russians can't mess up your face!" sounds a lot like "Unload and have some pastries and tea, my good man!" or something similarly ******ificated - Usually that ends with an incapacitated platoon and several exclamations of the high-pitched furious variety.
Other than that it's nifty, I personally much prefer it over the old point and click style, although there is that as well. I'd say it's definitely worth a rent, if you're into strategy games and/or Tom Clancy. (At the moment I'm reading Red Storm Rising again to get into the mood, lawl)

It would be awesome if either of you wanted to make some skins, mine are definitely pretty cruddy. I really don't have any computer graphics skills or know-how. Proper skins would really help with the feel of the campaign.

A Spitfire VIII and an I-16 pirate skin are all that would really be needed for now. Maybe a LaGG-3 skin too, here's an ad hoc one I did for the new missions I'm making...

Well I copied the mission files into the mission/campaign/gb folder but there is nothing there in game. Not sure what else I need to do??

Divine-Wind
12-29-2008, 12:23 AM
This is going to sound like a silly question, but did you extract the file before putting it into the GB folder? Otherwise it definitely won't show up.

Ba5tard5word
12-29-2008, 01:00 AM
The mission files have to stay in the folder titled "Air_Pirates" for the game to read the files properly...

so the mission files should be located here:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\GB\Air_Pirates

For part 2, it would go here:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\GB\Air_Pirates_Part_2

And Divine Wind, feel free to do anything you want for the skins. A lot of the missions are set in the Mediterranean, so maybe MTO-style color schemes would be good, like sandy yellows and browns. well i finished the first one today. And the second. Was the Tempest night mission the last one? And was it just me or was the second part shorter than the first? It was fun, thats for sure, especialy landing on that mountain carrier! Forgot to lower the tail hook, and before i knew why the hell i was not stoping i was already over the other end, and the position of the carrier actualy saved my lifehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Anyway, i loved it! Cant wait for the third part (if there is gonna be a third part?)

Ba5tard5word
12-29-2008, 04:31 PM
Yeah I think the 1st one was 8 missions, and the 2nd one has 6 missions. I should definitely make more Tempest missions to get more usage out of Fearless Flier's really cool skin.

How did you like that night mission? It's pretty easy but I tried to set up a lot of eye candy with the searchlights.

And yeah I have another set of 10 missions ready to go, it just needs mission descriptions and some tweaking here and there, it's sort of a prequel set between 1939 and 1942, basically an excuse to have more early-war planes. I even threw in a mission with the floatplane Zero (the Rufe) just for kicks, it flies like a fridge though.

I renamed the folder to read Air_Pirates from Airpirates and unfortunatly it did not work. I'm wondering if Vista is messing things up. I am unable to unzip the file directly to the Il2 dir. A window pops up and says "Acces is denied" when I try. I have to unzip it first to a temp folder and then move it. Could that mess up installation?

Ba5tard5word
12-29-2008, 05:22 PM
Vista generally prevents you from saving anything in program files, including extracting a zip or RAR file there.

Extract it to the desktop, then move it to the program files.

The mission files have to stay in the folder named "Air_Pirates" and the folder name has to match up EXACTLY with what is listed in the info file, or the game won't pick up the files properly.

Again I would just open the original RAR file, drag the folder that says "Air_Pirates" to the desktop so it's extracted, then move that folder to:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\GB

Are you trying to do the first or second campaign? Because if it's the second, the folder has to say "Air_Pirates_Part_Two"

Ba5tard5word
12-29-2008, 09:05 PM
Oh yeah and I think next I'll move on to jets...I'm not very experienced with flying the jets though so I'm not 100% sure I'll do that, but I'm going to give it a try.

Jets in moderation can make some neat scenarios. Like pulp fiction top-secret experimental weapons of doom.

Ba5tard5word
12-29-2008, 10:27 PM
Maybe....

Man I get frustrated flying jets against enemy jets...the enemy AI just fly off into the sky at perfect speed while I struggle to catch up, and if I'm lucky my engine doesn't set on fire...grr...maybe I'll just stick with more Tempest scenarios for now.

gorkyporky

I liked the night mission. Never flew one before tough. I had to look up the keys for cockpit lights so i wasnt in total darknes. And the dogfighting weas intense, not knowing exacly how much air i have beneath me, but i managed to get 2 kills. All in all i liked it, especialy the searchlights at the end, because they realy hepled with spotting the runway and landing.

And if i may suggest on the jet missions, i wouldnt include them. It seams that Air Pirates is a fast paced action campaign, and that means a lot of turning and manevering, but jets arent the best planes for that. Most jet dogfights are make-a-pass-and-hope-you-kill-somthing-then-shalow-climb-away. Doesnt realy spell fun to me. But thats just my opinion.

Ba5tard5word
12-30-2008, 09:38 AM
Yeah I think you're right, I get frustrated with that aspect of jet combat. I'm going to start making some more Tempest missions tonight, I just need to think of a good scenario. I think maybe fighting the Tsarists in Russia, or fighting the communists, not sure.

Fighting the British! You can't have pirates without British, that's like crumpets with out crumps, my good chap!

gorkyporky
12-30-2008, 10:56 AM
^i agree with that. Maybe the Japanese also? And italians, assuming yuo would make the mission in the mediteranian.
Also, i have an idea for a mission. You could get sent on patrol, alone, and in the air encounter a "Pirate hunter". One, maybe two planes, so it would basicly be 1v1, and you could set the pirate huntar on "Ace" level, in a better plane than yourself, and make a custom skin for him. It would kinda be like those 17. century pirate hunters, where a pirate ship and a pirate hunter would go against eachother, except that this would be in air. Am i making any sense? Tell me if i dont.

Divine-Wind
12-30-2008, 11:28 AM
Oh no, it makes perfect sense. Mark up certain aircraft as aces, and have them set to ace (And maybe stick a hidden kill target on them), and voila! Pirate hunters!

Ba5tard5word
12-30-2008, 12:37 PM
That's a good idea...the one time I set one single enemy plane to Ace, it blew me out of the sky within 30 seconds of engaging it....but I'll give it a whirl.

One kind of intense mission I made for the 3rd mission set is where you have stolen an I-185 from an Italian air base...you have to take off while 6 Italian fighters buzz you and some enemy tanks are rolling at you blowing up the airfield. Once you hightail it to your base, you can try and maneuver around and draw the tailing enemies into the fire of your side's aircraft carrier. Anyway I thought it was nifty, and it is kind of intense.

And I would like to try stuff against the Brits, a problem though is keeping the sides consistent...if I make the British or Russians on the blue side and the pirates red, then I have to change each and every enemy artillery or ship from red to blue...and the skins have to have the decals already on them...and if I switch the pirates to blue, then they have German or Hungarian or whatever radio voices.....I play with radio voices off (it makes the game stutter for some reason for me) but I figure it would annoy people if the pirates spoke in German. I wish the game gave you more control over things like decals and radio voices. But I'll probably just suck it up and change all the red items to blue, then ice my mouse wrist afterwards, heh.

Divine-Wind
12-30-2008, 03:26 PM
Haha, yeah, several hours of changing armies will break you wrists for sure. But it's worth it to see a well-planned battle come together. I just wish the tank gunners had better aim, for Buddha's sake - Tank engagements can last upwards of 15 minutes even when the tanks are right next to each other. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Although to save on time and health, you can pick Axis units and label them as experimental tanks/artillery/vehicles, etc.

If you want, I've got some free time and no ideas for Sea Dogs. I can draw up some skins to disguise your blue units in. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ba5tard5word
12-30-2008, 03:38 PM
Hmm! Well let me fill out the order form...

how about...

PIRATE SKINS:

-I-16 Type 24

-Spitfire VIII/Seafire (be careful because some Spitfire templates don't work on these)

CONFEDERACY:

Bf-109G2

Those three alone would work for the missions I've already released.

If you want, you could also make Tsarist Russian skins for La-5 and LaGG-3RD, mine are ok but the roundels have horrid jaggies all around them.

A pirate LaGG-3 skin would be good too but the Blueshark one I made can stand for now.

Ba5tard5word
12-30-2008, 03:42 PM
Oh yeah and as for fighting Brits, I haven't made the missions yet and I need to poke around a bit in the skins to see what is already there. I know the spitfires have skins already with roundels in them, but they dont' work on the IX 25lbs one.

Fortunatlely though there are already a lot of skins out there with roundels, I can just provide the URL to people and they can download the skins from the makers, like I did with the CSA skins.

Tempests would be common too but it would be kind of weird to have Tempests fighting Tempests, but maybe it just has to be...

Tonight I'll try and make a couple of Pirates v. Russians missions...maybe like 5 in all, then transition to fighting against the British.

Divine-Wind
12-30-2008, 10:06 PM
Perhaps Tempests could be disguised as Typhoons? You might be able to find one or two hacks at Flying-Legends.

Or you could stick the Pirates in Corsairs http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif (The F4UC is armed with kannonen, by the way)

Ba5tard5word
12-30-2008, 11:13 PM
Corsairs would be ideal but I don't like how they slip and slide all over when trying to aim.

lol, most of these campaign contents are basically centered around the few planes I actually like.

I'm a little burned out on making campaigns and flying Il-2 so I think I'll take a break, I'm going to Florida for a week next Wednesday anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Plus I tried some Tempest v. Yak-3 action, and it's a totally different feel from fighting with early planes, I need to get more used to it so I get a better feel of what types of missions to make.

Hopefully I can get "Air Pirates: The Early Years" out the door before I leave though.

Ok well here goes...this is for a mission called "The Great Escape" where you have to steal an experimental I-185 from the Italians in Cagliari and fly it back to your base near Stromboli...

here's the mission briefing:

**************************************
MEMORANDUM

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

DESTROY AFTER READING
**************************************
Blackjack, you've been smuggled behind enemy lines and we thank you for keeping a low profile and blending in with the local citizenry of Cagliari as a deaf fisherman.

Here are your orders Blackjack: An experimental Russian fighter plane has been purchased by the Italians and is at the military airstrip near Cagliari. Steal the plane and fly it back to our airbase at Stromboli. Enemy fighters will probably pursue you, so try and lure them into the fire of our ships. Engage the Italians if you must, but only within our airspace.\n\nIf you would please, bring the stolen plane back in one piece.

*********

Anyway, here we see Blackjack preparing to take off in the stolen I-185...unfortunately some local tanks didn't take too kindly to his thieving ways...

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/1742/21609320hf8.jpg

Some Italian fighters in the locality try to intercept Blackjack, good thing the I-185 is a heck of a lot faster than them...

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/6086/19671840ha6.jpg

He manages to lure the Italians back to his base and picks them off one by one with pirate AA support...

http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4636/44263433tc5.jpg

Before landing he does a flyby over the pirate seabase...(still under construction as you can see)

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/8776/90131048qp5.jpg

All's well that ends well...

Bump....anyone interested in this? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

If anyone has any comments or suggestions about improvements, let me know, in a couple weeks I will probably repackage the campaign so the missions flow chronologically instead of having part 3 take place before most of part 1 and 2. If anyone has any suggestions I'll do some tweaks and add them, also any new skins I will add too.

Also BTW I tweaked that mission (#9, "the Great Escape") above a bit to make it less easy to complete without firing a single bullet...for some reason the enemies would turn around and head home even though I gave them a flight path to the pirate base. I gave the player the slightly slower I-185 M85 version and placed some fighters close to the base so you have to actually engage them.

There are five skins in the zip (they used the Kamikuza void as base). 1-3 are the best skins, 4 and 5 are just a couple different color variants and I forgot to add the exhaust discoloration to the main body section (you can see it if you compare to skins 1-3).

The creators of talespin were obviously vintage aircraft enthusiasts. Have a look at this:
http://talespinsourcepage.i8.com/aircraft.htm
Hope this is not too off topic, and that you can get some inspiration for your campaigns. Notice some planes that are parodies of real life planes, for example the 'Spruce Moose' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Actually that one bears a striking resemblance to our Me-323!

Oh and one more idea for you: The I-16s could be launched from a tb-3 mothership in true air pirate fashion.

Ba5tard5word

thank you UnknownStranger, eventually I will add those skins to the campaigns I've posted online already.

(Thembrian) Juggernauts also contain rather large cargo bays and a belly hatch, enabling them to drop freefall ordnance such as pianos or bathtubs on top of targets.

Holy cow, I just did some tinkering and wikipedia research, and I never knew that the SPB models were meant to launch from the TB bombers! Man I'm angry I didn't put this into the campaign.

Is there a way to order your wingman to detach from the bomber?

Divine-Wind
01-06-2009, 12:13 AM
lol, TaleSpin! Used to be my favorite show.

I'd also forgotten completely about the I-16 SPB! I could've done all sorts of fun stuff with that in my mini-campaign. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif Now I must go figure out how they work.

Ba5tard5word
01-06-2009, 01:00 AM
You just attach the I-16 SPB model to the TB bomber SPB model like an aircraft carrier (set waypoint target to the bomber), and there's a thing in controls for attaching/detaching an aircraft (can you re-attach the I-16? Hmmm....) so you can drop off the bomber....

but like if I have a wingman attached on the other wing I'm not sure what to do to get the other guy to drop. I tried setting a ground attack waypoint for the bomber but it didn't do anything.

Bobbo_Tabor
01-06-2009, 04:49 PM
This looks like fun, I would have to down load the campaign that are up.

You also need a “Star Wars” Mission for this; The Evil Empire® (there is always one in these things) has it’s Ultimate Weapon™ in a Norwegian Fjord and it is up to a Rag Tag® group of Sky Pirates to braving heavy anti-aircraft fire to attack the vulnerable exhaust vent.

Watch out for The Evil Empire ace Von Vader's black fighter.

Ba5tard5word
01-06-2009, 05:06 PM
Hmm sounds like a cool idea, maybe you should make a Star Wars campaign set in Il-2...Spitfires for X-Wings, Bf-109's for TIE fighters, etc. You'd need a lot of skinning to get that done, so I'm not really up to it, but it would be a cool idea, especially to base different missions on the battles in Star Wars.

You could definitely put a bunch of Battleships together sticking out of the rock up in a fjord. Getting AI airplanes to attack something that is set above the ground/water is really tricky to do though.

This is the first part of my "Full Edition" repackaging of the Air Pirates campaigns--there are new skins, new missions, and the missions take place in chronological sequence.

NOTE the words "first part" in the 3rd sentence. Just thought I would mention that as it "may" be confusing?

The one posted on M4T like a couple days ago is part 2:

http://mission4today.com/index...file=details&id=3625

For the I-185 mission, basically just take off and keep your speed up and you'll outrun the enemy planes...but don't let them hit you as they pass you.

Some of them will follow you to your base...just fly around baiting them into following you over the aircraft carrier, which will blow them away eventually. Once there's 2 or 3 left you can start taking them on and shooting them down.

Unfortuately the I-185 is very hard to land because its propeller always hits the ground and breaks...I guess you have to fly with your nose tipped way up, but I've never been able to do it properly. Looking back I probably should have used a different plane, but the I-185 really has that "experimental plane" look.

I might make some more campaigns in the future, hopefully more alternate history ones...maybe one where you are a British or Italian pilot fighting against the Air Pirates...

It takes a fair bit of time to make a campaign...heck just to make one mission and run through it a few times making sure everything happens right can take several hours. So I might take a break for a while.

WELL I've got the campaign-making bug again and am trying to make some new missions. This time I'd like to make ones where you play as an RAF pilot battling it out against the Air Pirates.

So far I've made 3 missions with the Buffalo against Zeros and I-16's, it works out ok. The Buff is a fun little plane to fly.

Also I made a mission where the SPB Tupolev bombers drop some Pirate I-16's over your base...pretty fun and intense to be at the receiving end of a Pirate air drop!

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear it. In my previous missions I gave the Pirates Spitfires, Seafires and Tempests. I don't think it would be much fun to fly Spitfires against Spitfires though, so I'm not sure what to do.

Another option would be to have you fly as a Finnish pilot against the Pirates--it would open up more interesting speculative plane choices I think, like 109's and 190's and so on.

Im playing through part one slowly and im enjoying the mission variety and the missions themselves are pretty good fun. Gonna have to restart it soon though as i forgot to hit the 'no instant success' switch so i run out of ammo before shooting all the bad guys down and so fail.

Well you might also want to put infinite ammo on.

I meant the missions to be sort of arcade-ish so I put more enemy planes than most pilots could probably deal with on limited ammo.

If you don't want to replay the missions you've already done, you can edit the campaign wordpad file to leave out those missions, then start a new campaign and skip to the one you were last on.

Yeah i know, but i get bored with unlimited ammo. I ll give it a whack anyway. Thanks for the tip on skipping missions.

Yesterday, I just started the campaign. (part 1) so, I can't really give you any advice/ideas yet. (I only played 1st mission) Other than, maybe in your next campaign; adding What skin to select in the briefing...

I will try to see what else comes up...

OR... maybe something similar like the game called Crimson Skies? Using those names and missions like that? Are "BLIMPS" available to shoot down in IL2? OR for scenery sake? Not sure remembering ever seeing any... Before you ask, no, I have never made any missions using the FMB either. I don't quite understand it.

Yeah I meant to add that into the release of the Full Edition but I forgot. Any future campaigns I will definitely put that in just in case.

Unfortunately I've never played Crimson Skies. I probably got some inspiration from some of the more ridiculous missions in the Playstation 2 Ace Combat games.

Unfortunately there aren't any free-floating blimps in IL-2 (at least in the non-modded game) so I can't have enemy zepellins or anything like that.

There are observation ballons that you can shoot, I guess I could set targets on them to make destroying them a mission objective. Could be a fun mission to have to go around blowing up balloons while evading enemy fighters.

Thanks blairgowrie. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The only skins I've made are in this thread.

(And I have another pending that was only partially finished last week...but it might be awhile until I have time to work on it.)

Well gentlemen I have recently been working on a new Air Pirates scheme...this one will be something like 4 mini-campaigns of 4 missions each where you fly as a pilot for different air forces who are fighting against the Air Pirates.

So far I recently completed 4 missions for the Italians. I have a few for Finland and the UK but I need to do some for the Russians.

They're kinda fun because this time you have to fight against incoming I-16 SPB parasite fighters.

If anyone is interested I could post the Italian campaign--unfortunately Il-2 doesn't have an Italian campaign folder though someone jerry-rigged a workable one which is on M4T, it's a little confusing to install but it works.

Otherwise I'll just wait until I am done with all 12 missions to post 'em.

ALSO a few days ago I updated the original Air Pirates Full Edition Part 1 so that in the second mission you take off from an airfield in the ocean instead of a carrier--the I-16 is unable to do this with the turbulence setting on. I should have updated this earlier but I was lazy.

I am just getting back to replying... but, I "think" that if your already finished some (sounds like almost half done) then, I would probably wait and upload them all at one time.

Did you "think" to put in your message to say WHICH aircraft to use before flight? I know you missed that last time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif I was wondering if you should make this campaign go into the NONE folder? OR... I assume you could have an Italian folder, but you would need to create that. Also, you would not have Italian Verbiage for the radio. Just a couple thoughts.

Yeah I'll probably just do that. It will be a while, I just got a new joystick and am mainly practicing at getting used to it.

Do you mean tell what skin to choose in the briefings? Yes I need to do that, I should really edit the briefings in the original releases actually.

Is there a "none" folder?

There is no Italian folder in Il-2 but on Mission4Today someone posted an Italian Folder file that can easily be inserted into Il-2...it has a campaign, some skins, the necessary folder and medals and icons and voice tracks. I'm not sure if it counts as a mod or not but you can find it by googling "Italian Campaign Folder" and "Mission4today."
