As everyone's been discussing veterans on this forum recently I thought I'd mention Henry Allingham who's due for his 111th birthday soon. He's the oldest of the 4 British WW1 vets still alive. His other claim to fame was that he had dinner on the Titanic while it was docked in Southampton, pre maiden voyage, as a 16th birthday present.

He's still compus mentis enough to be sarcastic to journalists. Great guy.

Any Americans/other nations on here heard of any WW1 vets still alive in your country? As mentioned before we've got 4 left.

Henry said he retired from his post-military desk job when England won the world cup in 1966. A 41 year long pension. That must be Gordon Brown's worst nightmare

I nkow peole who look worse than him in their 60's!!

Good on him, would love to have a chat about some of things he must have seen
