Just got my copy of this game last night.

If you're interested in the ACW I highly recommend it. It is much better than the Sid Meier games from 5 years ago.

It's got tutorials to work you into the game, but as usual I dove right into the battle, and as usual got my butt kicked. First the Rebs showed up on my left flank through the trees and then my artillery kind of got overrun. I can only get better.

Once you've started a battle, you're in there because there is no Pause button. So when you start losing it just gets worse.

You can select to play at any commander level at any time and can also command individual units. But you really have to keep an eye on the strategic map or you're toast.

It also generates random battles for you, so it's endless.

The graphics aren't at the same scale as Rome:Total War but the unit movement is much more realistic. The sound is quite good with the booming cannon and musket volleys. It really conveys the feeling of the development of ACW battles as I have read about them.

Two guys developed it in their spare time in their "garage". Sort of how ILSturmovik probably started.

If you're interested you can read about it here:

which also has links for buying it. I ordered it through EB Online and had it within 2 days of my order. So far no calls about my credit card being used in Columbia.

How fast can the Yankees run on the return trip to Washington?

As a Canadian I'm not defending who had the most important, recent or biggest Civil War. We don't do civil wars up here. That's what hockey's for.

But over 1/2 million people (almost all of them soldiers) died in the ACW. So it's up there in the scale of things.

And SeminoleX, from what I've seen of my generalship so far, we'd be back for supper before the supply train had time to leave town for the battlefield. Pretty much what happened anyway.

Thanks for the headsup, jetsetsam. I've been wanting something to replace Sid Meier's Antietam ... as I can no longer get the sound to work on it since upgrading to SP2. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I really liked that game.
