View Full Version : OT: Destroyer Command II?

I think the Fletcher Class destroyer is the most beautiful of warships, and I like the way Oleg and Co. have rendered it (the Tashkent is even done better, but I digress). The Fletcher in silhouette screams "Action stations, all ahead full" to me, even when standing still. Anyway, does anyone know if Destroyer Command will ever see a version II? I'd love to see Maddox Games do it, but any updated version along the lines of Silent Hunter III would be great. In the meantime, are there any destroyer-level PC games out there?

Thanks.

In the navy we called the command "battlestations", but "action stations" sounds a lot cooler.

I doubt we'll see a DC2 before SH4 is released. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Battlestations:Midway( http://www.battlestations.net ) and Knights of the Sea( http://www.pt-boats.net ) are both supposed to be out in the next few months.

And for all those of you who shun those fancy new fangled aircraft, radar and turbine-equipped warships scouring the seas at 30+kts (so pretty much none of you I imagine http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif ) in favour of the glorious old days of valour, sodomy and <10k yard battle ranges, Storm Eagle studios are coming out with Distant Guns - set in the Russo-Japanese war http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Englishmen of a certain age would love to see this as a game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Although I think Rainbow had it squarely bested in terms of double entendre quotient, and by quite a fair margain.

It is an older game, but SSI made a game called "Fighting Steel." I wasted hours playing that game. It allowed you to control destroyers, cruisers and battleships of USA,UK,Germany and Japan. Nothing like a dreadnought slugfest. The game is alot like SH3 in that it focuses on a dynamic campaign, with some historical misions given and a mision creator. Graphica are dated, but you will not find a better surface warship game ... period.

Liked that one a lot. Once you got the hang of the command/control system (not too difficult) it was good fun. The 'shell cam' was a great idea. There was a WWI mod done for it, but I had trouble loading the original on a newer rig. Might dig it out and have another go.

I totally Agree. I am all about the dynamic campaigns. I also liked controling the whole battle group. I couldn't get enough of the shell cam. I wish Ubisoft would make Destroyer Command 2 like fighting steel, with the ability to controll the big ships. So many historical battles you could recreate, and even more "what if scenarios." Bismark/Hood, Kirishima/Washington, Scharnhorst/KGV, Yamato/Iowa?

I almost did not upgrade because it meant I could no longer play AOD or fighting steel. But SH3 was more than worth it, me thinks.

I never knew there was a WWI mod for FS http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Was it any good? What ships did it add? Can I still find it?

From memory, it enabled the Britsh and German fleets - I can't remember where it came from, all I can remember is a naval wargaming website http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
