I prefer IL-2 Shturmovik Stab (http://www.users.on.net/~mjtm/IL-2/index.html) and IL-2 MAT Manager (http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MATfiles.htm).
First I use mainly for campaigns, and second for, of course, most realistic markings available to date. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I used to use Il-2 Stab, but then suspicion started to gnaw on me that running other software simultaneously with IL-2 (besides the indispensable TIR and Saitek profiler) would be consuming precious CPU cycles and fps or something in my not-so-good rig, so I just fire IL-2-Stab once in a while now and leave the cache on so to get the svastikas in place. That's also the main reason I'm not into voice-comms yet... I know, I'm missing something http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

UQMG (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_essential_files.htm#044) is a good jumpstart into putting your own missions together, then you can take on them in the FMB and play around.

With the new trim wonders and torque magic in the later patches, FoolTrottel's IL-2 Stick Sensitivity Tool (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_essential_files.htm#087) has appeared just in time above the horizon as a shining star, so useful if you're using axes on more than one controller http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Manager,Stab,VAC and the UQMG are IMO THE utilities to own... The DCG and Mat are good too and there are tons of othewrs.. but to me those 4 give you big bang for buck.

I've just installed IL2 FB + AEP and would like to change the markings of the planes. I tried using IL2MAT 1.1 + IL2 MAT MANAGER and think I've followed the instructions to the letter...but no change in the markings.

What I'd like to do is to change all the marking to British markings I know its not accurate but I'd like to do it and then work on the accuracy. Is there any way to do this that will apply custom markings to all the default missions and campaigns?

I'be be happy just to be able to select a spitfire or hurricane and fly them with the british markings so its doesn't necessarily have to be all the planes.

Thanks for any help : )

I think (but not 100% sure) that you need to install IL-2 MAT as well. You need to read the README very carefully.

There is two different ways of IL-2 MAT Manager usage; one with pre-loaded cache (new, PF way), and one with markings loading while in game (this is old way).

Yes you must read the README http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">IL2-MAT Manager version 2.00 and later versions are designed to work without requiring IL2-MAT in conjunction with game version 3.03 which facilitates this feature. If you have game version 3.03 (or later) of either the combined installation of IL-2 Forgotten Battles " and Pacific Fighters " or the stand-alone installation of Pacific Fighters " then you do not have to install or run IL2-MAT. To best enjoy IL2-MAT Manager I strongly recommend that you obtain and install game version 3.03 (or later). In order to run IL2-MAT Manager without IL2-MAT you need to add the following line to your game€s configuration file €œconf.ini€ as shown below and then save the file. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">If you are running either the original IL-2 Sturmovik " game, IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles ", Ace Expansion Pack " or Pacific Fighters " prior to the game version 3.03 then you will be required to install and configure both IL2-MAT and IL2-MAT Manager. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think have the most recent updates for IL2 Forgotten Battles + AEP versions combined
(FB Version 1.22 & AEP 2.04) I don't have PF installed.

Do I need to get hold of the most recent MAT MANAGER and IL2MAT? At the moment I have IL2MAT 1.1 & MAT MANAGER V1.51. I tried getting a more up to date version at http://www.acesartwork.co.uk/ but the website is down. Any alternative links?

What line needs to be added to the conf.ini? Does this also apply to a FB+AEP install?

Thanks

I assume that you have downloaded IL-2 MAT Manager, zipped file contains 5 files, which are:

il2hook.dll
IL2-MAT_and_IL-2 MAT_Manager_Readme.doc
IL2-MAT_Manager_v2_33_PLUS_Full_Installer.exe
il2mat_setup.exe
readme_il2hook.txt

Read carefully README files. You will find every explanation there. However if you don't read them, chances for you to setup the program right way are low. It isn't hard to setup it correctly but you need to follow the instructions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Here you go, recent news about IL-2 MAT Manager (why the site is unaccesible):
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/1951019463

I usually download it from:
http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MATfiles.htm

In a few days site should be working again, as Aces pointed out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

VAC... Voice Activated Commands... it is like Shoot 1.6 only it has a GUI. I like it. It works with other programs. You can assign key strokes to it. I use it basically to command the AI. Some folks use it to control parts of the plane. You can find it in the Sturmovik Essentials thread that is linked in my sig. It is made by a community member named Shift_E.

Regarding UQMG and concerns of PC resources used, that is a valid concern. PF/FB use 99% of the PC resources when it is running, it seems, so it is important to give as much juice to IL-2/PF/FB for best performance.

With this in mind, UQMG was developed to deal with this environment. Unfortunately you do have to use Alt-Tab/Ctrl-Esc to get back to UQMG/Windows, but so is life. ... but UQMG can work well with just generating your mission, turning it off (closing the program) and then playing it. When you come back to Windows, just start it again.

One of the important features in UQMG is that by default it will start in the same state you left it when you closed the program, that way you have continuity, and if you just wanted to make a few changes on your last mission, you could.

So for UQMG users, you can close it before you return to FB/PF, and then just start it again when you are ready to build a new mission. For ultra-super-duper-extreme-to-the-max PC rigs, you can just leave it in the background.

I have an older HP pavillion with a 2.53GHz Intel P4, 1Gig RAM and 256MB DDR ATI card and I typically use TrackIR and UQMG at the same time... turning either/both off makes negligible difference. I run at 1280x960x32 resolution.
