If at all possible try to get something a little better than the 8600, it's OKish for il2 but in other games it's terrible. Try for an 8800GTS 512mb, or an HD 4850.

How much is the PC mate?

The 5000 - X2 CPU is getting a little oldish now for a 'new' PC.

Obviously it will play all games at the moment, fine, but with an eye on the future, hmmm not sure.

I got myself a 4200+ X2 around a year ago, and although it play games very nicely coupled with a 7900GS, if I was buying a full computer today, I would maybe think about something a bit more powerful.

Actually, forget all that, it all depends on how much you are paying for it, whether its a good deal or not http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If its super cheap then by all means get that system with an eye to upgrade to a 8800GTS in 5-6 months. Or maybe try and get a 8800GTS in it from the word go. It would certainly play any game on the market today with that spec.

If the price is good get it It is very similar to my computer(X2 4800 2gb DDR2 800, 7600 GT). It should run that resolution well with a few settings turned down. An 8800 GT would be better.

Yo,

IMHO the intel E8400 is the best price/performance CPU around right now:

I think you should aim to get a 3+ GHZ CPU, 2.6 is a little slow especially with SoW on the horizon, and the fact that games like IL-2 are generally "CPU limited" meaning that unlike some games on the market like Cyrsis, where the graphics card is generally the bottle neck, the CPU is generally your limiting factor to performance.

As for video cards, ATI's 4850 and 4870 line seem to be cleaning up, generally outscoring nvidia in benchmarks:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/ati-radeon-hd4800-games_3.html

I picked up an ATI 4870 and it is awesome, the 4850 seems almost as good for cheaper.

Yep, for missions with large numbers of aircraft flying around, and lots of ground units in combat, you want high performance cpu. A mid range grafix card is good too. Don't spend alot if Oleg is over a year away from releace. I'm wondering if Oleg is going Vista Only, so they have to change things over and learn how to work in that environment

What is IL2 BoB?

Yes, IL3

Thats fine for IL-2 1946 but as for Storm of War: Battle of Britain nobody knows what the minimum requirements are but likely to play it at a high level of detail you'll need ALLOT more than what you have specced out there. Its impossible to guess what we'll need since there isn't any information.

Anything else is gazing into the crystal ball and hoping for some sort of vision of the future http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

consider that if BOB/Sow is put on DVD that may reduce computer requirements compared to a product as CD-rom.

I'm assuming this as I run a low-performance system and it handles il2-1946 DVD better than it did Pacific fighters Standalone CD-ROM.

Thats a good deal for the specs mate.

If you cant afford 351 euros yet , then just get it with a 8600 with an eye to upgrade to a 8800GTS when the price comes down a bit. EVen with a 8600 that system is a nice cheap gaming machine.

How much is it with the 8600GT instead of the 8800?

it's 8600gtS 70euro and 8800gts 89 euros

Surely its worth the extra 19 Euros for the 8800 mate?

By the way, if you are trying to put a pictuire in your sig, you need to do this in your profile:-

link here

Add the img parts before and after the URL to the picture.

However the picture you are trying to add is too high for the forum rules. Look at the size of my sig, that is the maximum size. We have to think of dial up users. Large sigs take an age to load for them and browsing the forum is not pleasant if everyone has massive sigs..

Please edit the picture down to around the height of my sig http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
