It has recently come to my attention that several of you have been having your post locked or even your account deleted for a short vacation. As a result of this, some of you open another topic asking why your post was deleted even though it may have been legit, and then your warned again and that thread is deleted. Let's face it, the majority of this community hates nay sayers, and is mostly what gamers call "fanboys". The moderators themselves watch over these forums like border patrol, and I'm pretty sure they get tired of the crying and complaining. As a partial solution to this madness I offer my website's forums as a "safe haven" for those who would like to use them. I don't delete post nor do I ban accounts as I am a firm believer in freedom of speech. Leave the moderators alone, and let the fanboys have their perfect little world. My website is located at http://www.flyingknights.lordsofwar.com and is now open to the public. And before anyone starts flaming me for this, please realize that I am not bashing anyone nor am I trying to start trouble. I'm just offering an allternative to those who are frustrated posting here.

I find that this website is the MOST negative of the IL2 web-boards that I peruse. In its general adverserial character, harsh treatment of new players and verbal agression from numerous parties. That said, it is also more positive in general character than it used to be and a more pleasant place to post in than 18-24 months ago. When discussions are conducted intelligently this forum usually turns up the best information/results.

CWOS, Airwarfare, SimHQ and CombatAce all have forums that are generally more positive/less whiney and they don't have to follow the Ubi 'terms of posting'. This place is generally refered to as 'UbiZoo' at other boards and I can understand why.

You can label me whatever you want but I think that the mods do an excellent job here, particularly in light of some of the posters here. They put up with far more than I would and are generally even handed, level-headed and unbiased in thier censorship when they have to be.

This is not a flame, you offer your opinion, I offer mine. But I really think that offering somewhere to express disatisfaction when

a) there are already plenty of places to do so, and
b) these forums treat serious and legitimate concerns/complaints very well.

is a little superflous.

Freedom of speech generally goes hand-in-hand with respect, personal responsibility and intelligent discourse.

I sometimes think too few threads are locked.
There is a big allowance for offtopicposts in general discussions and so far the most locked posts seems to contain stuff that are against the forumrules or subject to several pages of obvious trolling. Even then a trollpost may be several pages before they finally are locked so I can't say the moderators are too hard.

Some posts are moved from Orr to general discussion if they are off topic but still many offtopic threads are allowed there.

It's not a simple job to keep track of all the forums so it's in place to cut some slack for the moderators to do some errors once in a while.
Even mods are people so their objectiveness may fault a bit on occasion if they are cornered persistently, but that should be considered normal.

So I cant say that "freedom of speech" is hampered to any extent.

I guess "Fanboys" exist in all camps, not only here, and there are groups of trolls that seemingly support eachother and I think sometimes that they have a bit too much freedom, but thats me.

The only thing I wish we had more is constructive discussing, but also the lack of that is an issue for many forums and this ofcourse depends on different agegroups and different cultures and nationalities aswell as personalities.

What I try to say is that we should have some understanding for the moderators. I very much doubt they think it's enjoyable to delete a post or "vacationalise" someone since it's an inferior way of making friends.

Fanboys exist in every game be it FPS, simulator, or mmorpg. Censorship laws are made by UBI on these forums and the mderators simply enforce them. Personally I have no beef with any of the moderators at this time, nor against any community members. I do think the moderators can be a little to harsh on people who can be disatisfied with something. I also feel that if someone has paid hard earned money for a product such as this, that they should have the right to express their thoughts and feelings in a respectful manner without being punsihed. Unfortunatley, some people here are unable to comply with the rules of these forums, just as much some tend to over abuse thier authority as a moderator. I'd also like to add that if their are any squads out there who do not have a website but would like to at least have a forums for themselves, let e know and I can set you up with a temporary private forums on my website until they are able to get their own up and running. And of course I charge nothing. Just trying to lend a helping hand.

Saunders reply is a perfect example of how a simple discussion on these boards can be turned into an arguement. I'm not even gonna waste a breath on you. If you don't have something constructive to say, go away before you cause this forum discussion to be locked.

Bloodfist: I stand corrected....I reread your post and you didn't use the term Fanboy--you noted others did. My sincere apologies...I just get sick of that term when used on people who recognize the limits of the game but still enjoy it the he** out of it, and realize that Oleg a)can't please everybody and b)is phasing out of this sim and over into BoB.

There are those who don't want to hear any critism, and by the same token there are those that can't constructively criticize, only complain in nasty tones. I wish everyone would use a little reason, but as I just demonstrated, it gets pretty easy to slip into uncivility here.

I bet your site will be entertaining, to say the least.

What is censored, exactly? There are plenty of threads, not locked, with posters voicing displeasure, inaccuracies, or other "non-fanboy" sentiment. This is allowed by the terms as far as I can tell. What is not allowed, and rightly so, are posters ranting, cursing, acting hostile, and whatever other uncivil behavior you can think of. This type of behavior is not worthy of this board. Locked threads and banned memebers seldom have anything to do with the content of the post, but their behavior.

No one has a "right" to post here, but a privledge extended to them provided they follow the Terms of Use (http://www.ubi.com/US/Info/Info.aspx?tagname=TermsOfUse), which apparently, no one reads. I like this bit of info myself: "IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS, DO NOT USE ANY OF THE SITES."

The mods do an excellent job here. I extend my thanks to them for keeping this a pleasurable forum to visit.

I agreed the mods have too much work to do in here. But I have noticed lately that many posters love to curse and insult other posters. In my opinion this forum is going downhill and picking up speed. I don't think we need another forum as much as we need either more mods or much stricter mods.

Whether you use symbols or space the letters, it's still cursing. If I were a mod it would be an automatic ban and the post would be deleted. Also insulting people on their religion or ethnic background should earn the same punishment.

I believe the mods are trying to make everyone happy by creating a gray area. The forum rules are much more black and white.

We don't need another forum as much as we need a heavier hammer.

Number 1 guys lay the freedom of speech stuff at the door. This is a company owned forum which is subject to it's rules that you agreed to when you signed up with that name you use......

Think of it this way if you went to work and told your boss what you think and whine all day about what you don't like or want a raise what happens?

You get shown the door sooner or later....simple.

OK now having said that.... I don't think many people get banned here without a good reason. Arguing with a mod in public is a quick way to get a vacation...use the little PM thing most ignore it's a good way to resolve the issue and stay with full posting rights http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif .

In the past 2 weeks there has been software issues where groups of IP's could not access the forums and said they were banned but in fact they were not....
How many of the missing may be due to that and have not contacted a mod to help resolve it?

A good percentage I would say.

Have fun, hang out, get some sunshine day to day......

Some of you I may envision either Buffalo Bill from Silence of the lambs or the guys with the christmas trees all over the apartment in Seven http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

the problem here is the mods dont have the Community Manager looking over thier shoulders to make sure they can only follow the ubi forum agreement, So basically what ever they want to do they can and do it. They have alot of of junk they do help alot with but alot of the orr discussions is favortism, i seen so many good technical threads with alot of data locked simply becuase 3-4 spammers come in.

But in their view the thread is out of hand but the people can freely go in and ruin a good thread and dont get punished just the thread is locked and thats it.

Our mods here are excellent compaired to other ubi forum mods of other games, look at the farcry forums for example.

most helpful being hunter82 and euro_snoopy. crazyiban as the ban happy dont mess with me mod then bearcat99 as the overly friendly nice person and steveV as eurosnoopys shadow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So if they had to follow the user agreement down to a T and didnt have the choice for opinion of banning it would make things run alot better here.

I mean look at the p38 kurfurst fishing thread if that was about anything german it would have been locked on day one.

I use to think cwos was a fun replacement for a pilots lounge but that placed turned into a moron *** lounge.

simhq.com are still the best information forums, ubi forums are a good straight persons pilots lounge and thats about it.

L-Spitter you have contributed a lot of good information over the years and are usually a very respectible poster, but, for one of your posts you wrote within the last half hour, in another thread, I would have banned you in a heartbeat, if I were a mod. Your post was far from the worst.

But it's not you alone. The absence of the mods lately has created a "free for all" atmosphere in this forum. I can't be bothered to read all the posts in a thread due to the insults, cursing, name-calling, and religious or political remarks. We have threads that start out good and end up in the gutter, long before the mods can catch them.

This forum used to be much more respectable and a good sourse of information. It's becoming more like the transcripts from cheap pornos. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Hunter has a point when he says that this discussion board is a company owned forum which is subject to it's rules that you agreed to when you signed up with that name you use. My forums that I offer as a substitute are not. I am not trying to replace these, simhq's or any other forums, but just add another discussion board that allows people the freedom to express whatever they want to with out being censored, banned, or having their threads locked. I was also a member of the cwos boards and enjoyed the pilots lounge until it was taken away.

Dunkelgrun has made the best comment yet...FWIW I think that these boards are the quietest that I have ever seen them. Not much going on at all - loads of posts drift to the bottom without reply and even the boring ones stay on Page 1 for days through lack of competition. Like this one. Pilots of WWII were cocky S.O.B.'s and why shouldn't we be? Even though this is a flight simulator, most of us treat it as more of a role playing game. We name our squads after real squads from WWII in honor of those who shined the brightest. We have people who recreate missions based on historical events, and we have those who are consumed with flight data test to prove their favorite plane is better than yours. I bet 90% of you would say that you were a pilot during the great war! What we don't have, is the bar that the pilots would go to. Where they would shoot the ****, tell far fetched tales, and turn over the glass of fallen commrades. I'm offering that place just as CWOS did, with NO RESTRICTIONS! I have also offered any squad that needs help getting started up, by setting them up with their own forum! How many community members do we have here that has done this yet? My guess is next to none. Myself and a few other members of my squad are the only moderators, and we share the same opinions on how to moderate my forums. If a squad wishes to use our forums, I will deligate one of its members as the moderator of that forum only, as we will not intrude on their discussions or beliefs. Another option I am heavily considering is opening up a skins download section for those who create, and want to upload their work. If any of yall would like to see this happen let me know. Basically my squad has been around since the days of CFS2, and this our way of giving back to the people who have supported combat flight simulators, especially those who love the thrill of online game play.

In short, I'd love to see some of you take advantage of what I'm offering. I believe this community has a lot of *****, but has become to tame. Basically, I'm letting the dog off the leash so to speak in my forums, so do whatever you want. Maybe then we'll start to see more of a competitive nature between squads as well as individual players. Speaking of wich, what ever happened to the good old days of squad matches? It seems like now it more or less " I prefer blue, and you prefer red". I guess we all became a little to tame. Sad aint it?

We hope to hear from you all soon

I think we do a pretty good job and we cant be all places all the time as we do have real lives.
Just about everyone who gets banned gets warned first and often the response is not nice. People often make it much worse for themselves as well, they get banned and often are back shortly with a new username flaunting it, that is a fast way to a long term ban. If people would learn to use the PM rather than try and get into public whizzing matches than lots of bannings would never happen.
People often ignore requests or advice as well and do that often enough and your leash will get shorter and shorter over time.
Congrats Bearcat!

I honestly just spam here, Im never serious in a thread anymore and there are no more really good threads here anymore its all just fishing and spam, every now and then some people post videos and pictures from airshows, and pilot interviews those are the only good threads but they are the same ones with the least replies. Im done posting research here, I'll leave the aircraft discussions and research data/charts at simhq.com. By the way what thread would you have banned me for responding to. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Well, as I said L-Spitter, yours was far from the worst. I won't mention which one simply because someone will jump all over it and start the topic in this thread. It wasn't so offensive in general but would be to certain groups.

My point was not exactly about your post, rather about what you don't post anymore. You have explained that already.

My very first post in GD got me a ban warning from Yosimite Sam's little brother. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif It was fair and simple and what I had posted was not offensive to anyone and in no way political, but it was in fact outside the forum rules. I accept that.

There are some good threads started in GD still today but it doesn't take long before the name calling begins simply because people have different views. Obviously some cannot control themselves, even with the priviledge of having time to think before posting.

I personally would like to see the mods becoming as strict as they were 4 years ago. I believe they have tried to be so fair that it's gone too far.

As for OT topics, I don't believe they are flame starters and I do feel they are good for the community. Threads about shaving, racoons under my porch, or even just humor make this community more interesting IMHO.

When I see a thread title suggesting a FM may not be correct I expect and always find name-calling and just simply offensive posts.

No one is perfect and as human's we are very prone to making mistakes. The mods are the authority to keep the peace and help maintain the quality of this forum. I would simply like to see the mods exercise their rights more often. Then people like you, L-Spitter, can get back to posting more informative, educational, and interesting stuff. That's what I call quality.

I just read a post by "Luftwaffe109", if I remember his name correctly, about the administration of the concentration camps. Very informative and very interesting and totally objective. But I'm almost willing to bet he'll be flamed or attacked within 5 more posts. This is all too common these days.

I've changed quite a bit from when I first came here and prefer the Mods to stay back. No need to explain, most who've been here long enough have their reasons. Every Mod is decent but I've come to have the most respect for Hunter's disposition with authority.

Its much more a good forum than bad.

Udidtoo, could you open the chat room a little earlier? Say _ _ _ instead of _ _ _ ? _ _ _ doesn't work for me as I'm on afternoon shift.

But IT'S American beer, I hear they take good alcohol and try their best to turn it back into water, when they have got about as far as possible to perfecting H2O they then bottle it and sell it as Beer..... They do a similar thing with their Chocolate, they remove all traces of Cocoa Beans from the product and name it Chocolate........................ Taylortony, you may insult anything you want but not my precious beer! I don't drink any watered down beer period, and I alwasys have a straight shot of capt morgan's private stock as a chaser with all my beers I drink. And how can you go from talking about beer to Chocolate?

Oh and congrats Bearcat! Where abouts in Charleston is she getting married? While your down here you'll need to check out the USS Yorktown. Several WWII birds on deck, as well as a submarine you can tour and a vietnam era display. It's at a place called Patriots Point. And if you wanna collect on that beer, let me know. It's allways fun to meet members of this community.
