psx4droid went on the market place for $6 the other day, it's a early version and has a few problems but it can play most games.

wouldn't advise it unless you have something with a beefy CPU such as the HTC Desire or Nexus One (1Ghz CPU) or you could have problems.

you can even use a wiimote as an external controller, just hoping the dev finds a way to make the PS3 controller work with it as the touch screen overlay is a bit strange http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I'm in the middle of exams so I'm trying very hard to not give a toss, but here's my overdue review on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: CoP.

From the radioactive drunkards at GSC Game World comes S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the third instalment in the first-person-shooter survival series.

The game is set in post-Chernobyl disaster Pripyat and its surrounding area. After the 1986 disaster, the government evacuated the civilian population but continued to secretly run experiments. In 2006 another incident happened beyond scientific explanation, an event which created many scientific anomalies and caused many characters to rush into the Zone (the radioactive area surrounding Chernobyl) in search of wealth. They call themselves “stalkers”; treasure hunters in search of valuable items called ‘artefacts’. The National Security Council of Ukraine became concerned about this recent activity and set up a task force to investigate the Zone. Several helicopters were sent into the Zone but, despite careful planning, they all crashed mysteriously. The NSC then sent in one of its best experts: Major Alexander Degtyarev, a former stalker, to investigate the crash sites and look for survivors. And so our story begins...

My first impressions of the game was that of any current sandbox shooter game, one that would hold your hand the whole way through and show you how to do everything in an overly long tutorial. How pleasantly misguided I was... After being plonked on some corner of the map I immediately set out towards my objective which was helpfully pointed out on my minimap, noticing the absence of the complimentary “How to look around & move” tutorial message that you get in every other game. This is the only S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game I’ve played, so it’s probably assuming you’ve played previous titles before. After arriving at my objective I was faced with a problem on how to get up a plateau to investigate a crash site. After going around one way I was faced with a dead end. Okay, I thought, this is probably the game’s way of teaching me how to explore for alternative routes. I proceeded around the other side of the plateau whereupon I was instakilled by some weird invisible thing with an octopus for a face and severe asthma. And this was on the recommended difficulty setting. The game quickly teaches you to maintain constant 360° situational awareness whilst you’re out & about in the Zone.

At that point I realised there was no tutorial and that the game’s idea was to simply drop you off on one side of the map and then knock off for lunch, letting you figure out how to move & shoot & do all those other things by yourself. Players have grown soft with tutorial levels and having the game hold your hand the whole way through, it’s up to games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to remind us how fun it is to do things on our own and provide that ‘tense’ atmosphere that games seem to be losing nowadays. Now atmosphere & immersiveness is one thing that CoP does really well. The soundtrack fades gently in the background and provides an unnerving ambience that makes you feel like you’re alone, even when you’re not, and remains constant. There is an option to toggle ‘dynamic music’ where the track will change when you enter a combat situation, but I prefer it when the music doesn’t ruin the surprise of an attack. The Zone is divided up into three major areas: Zaton, Yanov and the city of Pripyat itself. Each area is quite large but you can quickly familiarize yourself with the area and its landmarks. The graphics aren’t particularly amazing but the visuals are very authentic; characters, mutants and the environment are all amazingly well designed with outstanding attention to detail. There is a day/night cycle, and when it’s night time in CoP it actually looks like it (unlike COD, AC2 or Far Cry 2, where you practically need sunglasses). You can’t see squat without your flashlight and most of the time you’re afraid to turn it on for fear of being spotted by unseen enemies in the dark, which makes it all the more tense. And night time affects both your visibility and the enemies, adding a certain tactical element for when planning an operation. I mentioned that the graphics aren’t particularly amazing, but the dynamic lighting makes running around in the dark on a rainy night during a thunderstorm an absolute joy to behold – especially when you glimpse an unfriendly NPC in a flash of lightning.

However this ‘tense’ atmosphere is somewhat ruined by one annoying glitch which, so far, seems to only affect my copy of CoP. NPCs take about 5 minutes to spawn when entering a new area which can get rather annoying when I’m exploring a supposedly abandoned facility and get all of a sudden surrounded by 15 gun-toting zombies who hate trespassers. It also makes running cross-country a little too easy; by the time a roaming mutant finally spawns I’m already on the other side of the map. This also applies to cutscenes, which can get very irritating in the later stages of the game when the camera dramatically circles around an empty room focusing on an imaginary conversation. The only remedy I found for this problem was saving & reloading whenever I enter a new area, which breaks the flow and ruins the immersiveness somewhat.

But bug issue aside, the rest of the game’s features more than make up for it. Being an RPG in some sense, you have a weight limit to what you can carry and having too much stuff can bog you down, making it harder to run, which can be especially nerve-wracking for when an emission is about to hit and you need find suitable cover fast. You have different slots for weapons, armour and accessories, all easily manageable in an inventory screen which makes it easy to compare stats on different weapons and equipment. There is an economic system in the game, letting you buy/sell items with traders and various free-roaming stalkers. If you’re a scavenger like me then most of your starting income will come from looting dead stalkers/zombies and stealing things from various sites, but the primary way to make money is by collecting artefacts in anomaly fields (the main reason most stalkers enter the Zone in the first place). Various anomaly fields contain artefacts as well as anomalies which can harm you in one way or another, making artefact hunting somewhat risky but rewarding. As well as being sold for a hefty price, artefacts can also offer certain gameplay benefits such as heat resistance, wound healing, health regeneration, weight carried and much more. The downside is that most of these artefacts emit radiation, so it’s best to use them sparingly or balance them out with radiation-absorbing artefacts.

As for the combat there are a wide variety of enemies for you to shoot at, including other stalkers, zombies (basically Gumby stalkers), and a wide range of mutants who will attack you in different ways, such as hit & run attacks or throwing objects at you. The AI is impressive, with enemies constantly trying to flank the player and flush you out of cover with grenades. The shooting falls somewhere between Call of Duty and Far Cry 2 – not as smooth and precise as COD, making you have to work to land a proper hit, but definitely smoother than FC2 so it doesn’t feel like you have a bucket of concrete dangling from the end of your gun. The character animations are also a lot smoother in CoP as well, making it slightly easier to land precise shots. Crouching doesn't lower your stance very much and low crouching (the game's equivalent of prone) only drops your eye level to about waist-height, making it difficult to get behind low cover. But most solid cover is generally taller than you, making crouching in a firefight nothing to worry about. Engagements range from intense CQB to long range marksmanship, with bullet trajectory and travel time needing to be taken into account. There is no regenerating health (unless you use artefacts, which even then is quite slow) and the player can’t take very many shots before dying. When you get hit you’ll more often than not begin to bleed, so you’ll have to bandage yourself up before using a medkit. Most enemies take a decent few shots to fell, but humanoids can normally be taken out with a single headshot. Keep those supplies stocked and make friends with the quicksave key!

Probably the best selling point to me in CoP is in the weapons and the attention to detail GSC Game World put into them. There are a wide range of firearms for you to choose from and all of them are weapons you’d expect to find in a survival/military situation such as this. A lot of them are realistically of Russian origin, ranging from Makarovs to the AK-74(u), to Dragunov SVDs to the VSS Vintorez. There are some Western weapons as well, including the Walther & Beretta handguns, the SA-80, the G36, the AR-18 (with a gas system that can handle the Zone’s conditions) and my personal favourite the SIG SG 550. Every weapon would logically be used in this type of scenario; there are no weapons just thrown in for kicks (yes, I’m looking at you Modern Warfare 2). Of course they never get called by their real names in game, probably because of copyright purposes (apparently you’re not allowed to say ‘Heckler & Koch’ in a videogame unless you’re Tom Clancy). Each weapon has accurate stats and each weapon has its own specific type of ammunition. For instance, all Soviet assault rifles and pistols use the 5.45x39mm and 9x18mm rounds respectively while NATO firearms use the 5.56x45mm and 9x19mm rounds, with sniper rifles using their respective ammunition (7.62x54mm and 9x39mm subsonic) with different types of ammunition available for each weapon as well, such as hollow-point and API. Assault rifles also take correct sights, with Russian rifles taking the PSO-1 telescopic sight and NATO firearms using the SUSAT (with the SA-80 having one already built in). Even the upgrading has a lot of effort put into it, being able to upgrade certain parts of your weapon for certain benefits such as installing a lightweight stock, a more ergonomic handguard/grip for easier handling, polygonal rifling to improve accuracy, a tighter seal on the bolt to improve bullet velocity/trajectory, an additional recoil spring and counter-balance to enhance reliability and decrease recoil, threaded barrels and accessory rails to mount optics & suppressors... if you’re a gun enthusiast, you’ll love the attention to detail in this game. As in Far Cry 2, weapons wear out and can jam overtime, requiring you to get them repaired by a technician or switching to a different weapon. Enemy weapons are rarely found in good condition, requiring you to repair them first before selling them. The ballistics are accurate for each weapon as well; 5.56mm weapons tend to have a flatter trajectory than 5.45mm rifles (while losing out on reliability), while the SVD is best suited to long-range shooting. The VSS Vintorez and its smaller cousin the AS Val use special subsonic ammunition, making them incredibly useful for covert missions but require more concentration for long range shooting and... AH, I JUST LOVE IT!

Where was I? Oh yeah, there are shotguns as well but I can’t comment on their performance because I wasn’t going to touch the bloody things. The game is very flexible on how you tackle a scenario, with installations having multiple entry points letting you either shoot your way through, pick enemies off from a distance, silently eliminate enemies close-up Sam Fisher style or any combination of these. CoP is also one of the few sandbox shooter games that does stealth well, with two meters showing the amount of noise the player is making and how visible they are to enemies. There’s nothing more tense than infiltrating an enemy compound late at night wearing nothing but a trench coat and there’s nothing more satisfying than eliminating a sentry in a dark corner after stalking him silently for five tense minutes. To aid you in close combat you also have a knife for stabbing & slashing which you can actually use for silently eliminating sentries as opposed to gutting them loudly (yes, I’m looking at you Far Cry 2).

The controls are spread out all over the keyboard and feel a little cluttered at first, so they take a bit of getting used to. When I first started I had to have the manual open in front of me so I could figure out what buttons to press. The story in CoP is fairly slow-paced at first, giving the player plenty of freedom to explore and do other things. It’s when you finally get into Pripyat that things start heating up. I’ll avoid spoilers, but the story overall wasn’t that great in my opinion. It was interesting at first when you have to investigate the crash sites and feel like a detective, but later on things just seemed to get rushed along a bit too fast. The game itself isn’t very long either, and that’s including all the side missions. There is a free-roam mode available at the end of the game where you can choose to leave the Zone or stay behind, but once you’ve done all the side missions there isn’t any real reason to stay. There are multiple endings though and various achievements to gain depending on the choices you make, so the game does add a bit of replay value. And it’s always great to start off again as a vulnerable little stalker in a big dangerous world.

Overall: Great immersiveness & atmosphere, intense and varied combat, pretty visuals, outstanding attention to detail and intriguing game world. For $46 AUD, this is an experience worth having.

I went to see toy story 3 and cute looking bears are evil http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

saw it in 3D at the local cinema and I will never go there again to watch anything in 3D, you could see what was meant to be 3D but it want and had ghosting and by the end of the film it felt like some1 had tried to remove my eyes with a ice cream scoop. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I think I'll stick to paying more and go to the Imax at least you can see the 3D there and it doesn't kill your eyes.

IW haven't even remotely disbanded. They have made recent hires in the last 3 months that has replaced all those that left to go to Respawn. I can safely say that they are almost back at ~ 100 employees and ready to start developing MW3 (assuming they haven't started already) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

if MW3 is anything like MW2, they will ad at least £10 to the price and leave out the majority of features people expect in a modern game http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

CoD games have relied on kids going "OMFG!!!111!!11!! it's CoD please take all my parents money so I can play the same game I purchased years ago with a new name" for years now, to be honest after MW2 any1 who thinks CoD is actually a decent FPS shouldn't be aloud money, I'd rather go play the original unreal tournament than play the CoD games at least the original UT has all the features a PC game should (more so if you want to use it to try to make other firms cause a price hike) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

FPS have come a long way since then. I freely admit IW took a step back with MW2 (COD4 is still the standard set within the industry post-Counterstrike) but currently, the FPS genre has a glut of titles that don't even hold up a candle to MW2.

MoH, BFBC2, Operation Flashpoint...all have been very poor contenders.

well we can knock off sales, awards and scores as the majority of them are bought (MW2 was only revealable with a free all expenses paid trip to IW and then you could only ever review it from a 360 version) not to mention activision is one of the main firms who spit their dummy out any time they score under 80% and start refusing to send firms review copies.

as for player numbers find one firm who actually gives a real number, Blizzard got caught out doing this as in their "active subs" they counted every game, expansion and time card sold as an active sub.

as for active players in numbers we can see, CoD4 has a grand total of 317 playing (peaked at 400) with Americas army 3 at 515 (peaked at 731) and BF:BC2 at 4382 (peak at 5286)

since these numbers are from steam I haven't listed any Valve games MW2 (multiplayer) is only beat by CS and CS:S but that is just proof people are stupid enough to play a crap game just because "it's cool"

it's like why do people buy the Iphone? it's a terrible phone there are so many cheaper ones that do so much more but people want a name because famous people say it is cool.

SBRedFlag

All right cas, since you say that MW doesn't have all the features a modern FPS should have, what game (that was released in the last 3 years) do you prefer? I honestly had tons of fun playing both MW and MW2.

While we're at it, what phone that's so much cheaper is so much better?

@sbredflag, TF2, L4D, L4D2 just to name the ones from a single developer.

caswallawn_2k7

Esco you find them buggy as they are REAL PC games not console rehashes designed to be idiot proof, this is why people find them buggy as there are a lot of people don't understand new games need new drivers and hardware, but then if your rehashing a console game it was designed for slightly modified PC hardware from over 5 years ago that can't even run most modern games above min settings.

the majority of bugs in games are found by people who think they can go to a store buy a random PC for £300-£500 and expect it to play ever game on full settings, this is proven by all the complains of DX9 games failing on Vista and Win7 as the people are too slow to actually realise if the file is missing from directx 9 you probably have to install it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

trust me Esco get away from the console kids and people who think a intel graphics chip is a dedicated card and should run the same as a top end card "because they only bought the PC last week" and get into the main core of the PC community and you find stuff like the CoD games are slated something rotten as they are poor ports and you would also find Valve is probably the best and most reliable PC developer as with them PC comes first, then if they feel the need they port it to Console and actually do a lot better job than the majority of console to PC ports.

Cas, i have QA tested games on both consoles, PCs and handhelds. I expect any finished article/ product/ game to have a certain standard of usability. Many of Valve's products lack that.

Buggy = buggy. No matter how you look at it. Especially when you've been in the trenches trying to manipulate SDKs and fish out bugs via testplans. No matter the platform.

Esco who hasn't tested games these day's? who hasn't tested other hardware? who hasn't played at least one game in Alpha?

90% of PC gamers can claim to of been part of QA and the vast majority of high end gamers also know enough programming and debugging to make programs and games.

if you honestly think you are special as you have done a bit testing I feel sorry for you.

name some "game breaking" bugs in the valve games that are not related to out of date hardware and drivers, then maybe we can have a discussion about the bug in MW2 that was that bad IW got MS to ban people for using it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Also I dunno when the last time was you played but I've never had any problem whatsoever with TF2. In fact, the last time I encountered a bug in any Valve game was probably shortly after CSS was released. What bugs did I encounter in MW2?:
Release: Javelin Glitch, then came a patch and I got encountered the unlimited grenade launcher glitch, after that there was the glitch where you could hide in rocks and after that it was getting XP in private matches it was getting to places that were not meant to be reachable and I can go naming an entire list.

L4D(2). I sincerely hope you're not implying that there are too many zombies games cause last time I checked CoD:WaW featured a zombie mod.

original TD was quite good but did get old quick as it was limited, but unless it is a massive change over the original it's not really going to be worth it, guess just have to wait and see how TD2 turns out.

with GT5, I'm tempted to buy move as GT5 is listed as a supported game.

Now that the holidays are here, I'm thinking of getting a few new games, any suggestions?

I usually go for third person games, preferably no guns.

Games I seriously liked:

1.The Thief series.
2.The Tomb raider series.
3.The Prince of Persia series.
4.Assassin's Creed

Xanatos2007

Hmm...

The Hitman series are good 3rd-person stealth games. It has guns, but you can get through most missions with the highest rating without needing them. The shooting isn't particularly smooth anyway, especially in Blood Money, so it's best to avoid a firefight.

I recall a 3rd-person fantasy RPG called Dungeon Lords which was pretty fun.

Mirror's Edge is a short but interesting 1st-person action game. You can disarm guards and shoot if you really must, but it's a lot more fun to run away. The Parkour mechanics work quite well from a 1st-person perspective; there were moments in the game where I got sweaty palms from playing because the chases/climbing was so intense. Then again, that's coming from a seasoned traceur.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is another 3rd-person stealth game in which I never use guns (not that you really need them) and usually try to avoid guards altogether, although the firefight option is still there for the simpletons. It's one of the few games that does stealth well.

I can't really think of any other games besides the ones you already listed. I would recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. It's an FPS/survival game, so I'm not sure you'd especially like the shooting aspect of it. But atmosphere & immersiveness are something the game does really well, especially at night, a feature I've only ever seen in the Thief games. Check page 28 of this thread for a more thorough review.

games without guns are hard to find.
unless you want to stear towards fable or sports game..

it's called the interwebs and up scaling, just because something says HD on it doesn't mean it is HD, for the best example of this play any 360 game most run at around 570 native (pretty much the same as pal standard def) but on your HD TV they come out at 1080(i/p) because the consoles splits and moves about a few pixels to give the effect of a higher quality but if you pixel count you can easily see the difference, or if you just have a good eye the difference between true 1080p media and media up scaled to 1080p is obvious from a mile away.

so you can watch the new HD shows and a selection of up scaled shows from the past 10 years but you wont find much over a few years old that was actually filmed in HD, it like movies such as the last 2 harry potter films they are coming out in 3D but they were 100% filmed in 2D so all the 3D is post effect editing meaning it is going to look terrible compared to a true 3D movie.

I'm a lot more simple-minded than that.
You see, a key factor in deciding any action in your life should be the effort required to complete the action.
Especially when it comes to me.
Heck, I'd probably hire somebody to go whaling for me.

Then, again, maybe not even that. Hiring someone would be too much effort in itself. Guess I'll just hope I dream it.

Altair ibn-La'Ahad, which means "The Flying One, Son of None".

And Ezio Auditore da Firenze: 'Ezio' is derived from the Greek/Latin word for 'Eagle', 'Auditore' is his family name and 'da Firenze' means 'from Florence'. Just in case that wasn't clear either.

No, no! Back in my musky, dank den.

We flew out of Germany on the first day of Ramadan, which was interesting, since it was time to break our fast as we were landing.

We sent the stewards running right and left to get us food. Was fun breaking out of the mold of, "We give you food now, shut up and eat."

Air conditioning is always on in this region, in all countries, at all times.

Partly true. To an extent.
They don't really "celebrate" at night, and they don't sleep through the whole day.

What they do is take a nap in the afternoon, usually after work, and then wake up an hour or so before it's time to break their fast.
They then break their fast, and then stay up until three or four in the morning, in which case they have another meal, and then go to bed, waking up at around eight for work.
Generally how it flows through the week.

Also, the people from Saudi Arabia really aren't all that rich when compared to the people of the UAE and Qatar.

From the mad bastards at IO Interactive comes Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, sequel to the 2007 3rd-person shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

You play as “self-medicated psychopath” Lynch this time around with Kane by your side as you battle your way through the gritty criminal underworld of Shanghai. When IO Interactive stated that they’re going for a grittier feel to this sequel they weren’t joking! This game is so rough & gritty you could lay it out on a field and use it for off-road racing. The entire game is shown from the perspective of a hand-held camera with more shaky cam than a 1930s film projector in the hands of an epileptic during an earthquake. The camera bobs around realistically as if somebody’s holding it and shakes a lot more when you run, giving the feeling that Lynch has his own personal cameraman following him around trying to keep up with the action. When Lynch gets shot, blood realistically splatters onto the lens of the camera and gets thrown violently back if he’s taken sufficient damage, and when you die the camera drops to the ground and rolls away as if the cameraman just died as well. This takes a bit of getting used to at first, but it really adds to the hardcore nature of the game and intensity of the action. Thankfully IO had some common sense about them when designing this feature so the camera remains steady when you aim your gun for more precise shots. The graphics have definitely improved from the previous instalment, with more detailed environments and realistic camera effects such as lens flare and pixelization (you’ll thank IO for including the pixelization later – trust me). The characters have a lot more rugged and dirty look to them, which suits their environment and the general nature of the game. Although despite these hardcore visuals and unforgiving nature of Dog Days I had to laugh for a good 2 minutes and 18 seconds when I took the girly pink CD out of the cover.

The story maintains the dark, brutal atmosphere from K&L1 and gives it a severe kick in the nuts to heighten the effect. Whereas K&L1 had a more cinematic ‘Hollywood’ feel to it, K&L2 feels more like a live news feed or documentary film on gang warfare. The voice acting is still good and the dialogue still has enough swearing in it to shame Troy Duffy, if you’re into that sort of thing. When Lynch meets Kane at the start of the game they almost immediately started bickering with each other just like old times, which added to the entertainment value for me. Kane arrived in Shanghai to help Lynch sort out an arms deal which was going to make both of them extremely rich and able to retire, but – being the unpredictably violent pair that they are – things inevitably go horribly wrong and they have to fight their way out of trouble and find a way to leave the country. The Kane & Lynch games focus heavily on story and both games are paced at the same rate the story is told. K&L1 had a great story but suffered a major flaw: the game was too short to tell the story properly so many questions were left unanswered – what happened between Kane and The7 in Venezuela? How does Kane know so many mercenaries & other criminals? What’s the story between Kane, Retomoto and Yoko? What was in the briefcase anyway? What’s up with Lynch? K&L2’s story is a lot simpler with very little back story to explain (K&L1’s story being all the history you need to know). However, whereas K&L1’s story was limited by the game’s duration, K&L2 has the opposite problem with the game’s duration being limited by the story’s content. I wasn’t counting the seconds, but it felt a lot shorter than the first game. IO Interactive tend to have shocking elements to their games stories and Dog Days is no exception, having plenty of WTF moments spread throughout the game – particularly one mission about halfway through which left me wondering how the f*** IO managed to get away with it. I won’t ruin the surprise, but this is the part where you really appreciate the pixelization effect. Kane and Lynch have their moments throughout the game as well and you can see their relationship develop over the course of the game, both eventually having to rely totally on each other for survival. But just as the story was starting to get good it suddenly ended, leaving yet more unanswered questions and me unaware of the pair of criminal’s plight – the ending could’ve been a little more climactic.

As for the gameplay there have been several improvements over the last game. The cover system has been updated, now having to push a button to get into cover instead of the auto-lock feature that seemed to frustrate everyone in Dead Men. I honestly didn’t have a problem with the cover system in K&L1, but then again I was playing it on the PC – and everyone knows that games handle a lot better with a mouse & keyboard. Still, good to see they addressed an apparently annoying issue. Another feature I like is that your reticule disappears when you’re behind cover, so when you go to blindfire it really is blindfiring. Shooting in general is definitely more accurate than K&L1 but still not surgical-precise like in other games. It still works though: whereas K&L1 had more of a Hollywood feel to it and it felt good to spray at enemies because you were treated with pretty destructo-scenery, K&L2 goes for a more realistic approach to gunfights. Have you ever seen a real street firefight? Accuracy is only relative whereas finding cover and making distance are your primary concern. The game is definitely harder than K&L1; I died a lot more times in Dog Days than I did in Dead Men, and this was on medium difficulty. You can no longer get revived by teammates with an adrenaline shot, but to balance this out Lynch can take a bit more punishment than Kane could in Dead Men. Squad commands have been removed in Dog Days, probably because it’s just you and Kane most of the time and Kane can take care of himself quite effectively (mostly because he can’t be killed). That’s not to say the AI is dumb; Kane is still an effective fighter – able to flank enemies and keep them occupied – and he even saved me from a sniper one time in a trainyard. Grenades have also been removed from Dog Days, which I didn’t mind because the grenades in K&L1 were about as precise as a tennis ball in a tumble dryer. Instead Lynch can throw fire extinguishers, gas canisters and other explosive objects towards enemies and shoot them to make them explode. Explosives aren’t particularly common, but when you find them the situation will more often than not call for a bang anyway. The melee has been updated as well; instead of performing a cool takedown like in K&L1 with a push dagger (which was awesome by the way) Lynch will now grab an enemy and use him as a human shield – assuming you can get close enough to an enemy during a firefight before he reduces you to nothing but a pile of hair with a pair of sunglasses on top. Enemies take a fair amount of bullets to take down, having about the same resilience as in K&L1, but now you have the ability to shoot through their cover and vice-versa. There’s also a new helpful hit indicator similar to that in the MW2 multiplayer, letting you know if you’ve hit an enemy directly rather than merely tussling his hair a bit. There are also helicopters to shoot down at one point, but these were just annoying and not very satisfying.

There are a few weapons to choose from, ranging from pistols to assault rifles to shotguns and a bullpup battle rifle that serves as a sniper rifle. K&L2 is also one of the few games where I’ve actually bothered to use a shotgun, either because there was no other weapon around at the time or simply due to the fact that it just works (having an effective range greater than the length of my arm and reasonable stopping power). All the weapons in the game sound very powerful and punchy – even with a suppressor attached it still feels like you’re firing a hand cannon. There’s no soundtrack featured in the game, which is disappointing after Jesper Kyd did such a fantastic job on the first Kane & Lynch (as always). At least I don’t think there’s a soundtrack... I heard some noise in a few of the levels, but I couldn’t tell if it was ‘music’ or just unintentionally rhythmic industrial sounds. I understand that having no soundtrack somewhat adds to the grittiness and documentary nature of the game, but I still would’ve liked to hear a “Lynch’s Family Portrait” or something. I haven’t tried out the multiplayer yet but it looks rather interesting and somewhat therapeutic. You know how when you’re playing a team-oriented game and there’s that one guy who keeps teamkilling you? Well K&L2 is one of the few games that encourages that kind of behaviour and rewards you for taking revenge. There are three main game types – Fragile Alliance: where you have to work together to steal some loot and anyone can choose to become a ***** at anytime. Undercover Cop: like fragile alliance except a ***** is chosen at random at the start of every round. Cops & Robbers: ****** vs. bigger ******. Once the cavemen that run my internet service figure out how to press buttons I’ll give the multiplayer a try.

So in short: well crafted story & atmosphere, reasonable and challenging combat, interesting multiplayer, but bad ending, short campaign and no Jesper. It takes a certain kind of person to enjoy Kane & Lynch and it’s good to see that IO Interactive are catering to that minority of people. I’m not a crime thriller/3rd-person shooter fan, but I found Kane & Lynch 1 and 2 to be very enjoyable games. If you enjoy movies like In Bruges or The Boondock Saints, or enjoyed Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, or enjoy stomping on old people and children in your spare time, then you’ll probably enjoy Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days as well. If you’re not that certain kind of person however then I can’t blame you for wanting to stick this game in your microwave and recreating the Chernobyl Disaster.

Another good thing about Dog Days is that the PC version was released at the same time as the other platforms. That's how it's done Ubisoft, take notes!

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

they do, it's like when you leave the tap running and wash your hands under it before turning it off, your still putting your hands in muck off before you washed your hands.

We have one of those in one of our bathrooms. It's a little weird having one in the house, but I guess it does make sense. It seems like it puts out a LOT of soap at once though. :/

i dont think they do make sense, sure the pump may get covored in germs, but you touch it before you clean your hands, after you've cleaned your hands you dont then go and touch the pump.

They do make sense.

If you manage to get your hands really dirty, then you're going to leave dirt on the dispenser itself, forcing you to clean it, as well as your hands.

And you may very well end up washing your hands twice, if that's the case.
