In WW1 Germany had a dedicated team on studies about the cammo patterns.
The result was the lozenge, wich consisted on polygons or hexagons (navy) of different color put in a pattern of 4 or 5 colors. Here is more info:

However this paterns helped their users on close combat?

Maybe we could start a test online like Mythbusters?

For me:

1) It dont allow you to jugde distances properlly.

2) It dont allow you to properlly identify the aicraft type.
